The Toshiba ExploraVision Scholarship Awards from NSTA have been around for nearly (2) decades and are not showing any signs of decline or interest. To the contrary the ExploraVision program is becoming more popular and respected because it’s one fun scholarship to participate in & try and win. And if you don’t win, the experience in itself is the real prize.

The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) manages these awards which were created in 1992. Since that time almost a quarter of a million students have competed in quest of the savings bonds worth $5,000 and $10,000 dollars. More importantly the students are enthusiastic about participating in a program that allows them to be innovative with the opportunity to contribute. Not only do the winning teams receive savings bonds but they also receive great Toshiba products as well.

There is actually more than one Toshiba Scholarship & grants to choose from. Toshiba contributes a ton of money around the globe in different countries geared towards encouraging and funding educational programs and scholarships. Toshiba is committed to establishing opportunities for students who display exceptional educational pursuit in various fields geared at improving society. Toshiba is very focused on students in K-12 and trying to prepare them for innovative positions in science, math or technology fields when they enter college.

In reference to the Toshiba ExploraVision scholarship program the participants are encouraged to decide upon a technology that is utilized in the present and then attempt to explain what that same technology might resemble (2) decades down the road. In this competition students join with teachers and mentors on a journey of exploration into science and technology. Each team has the opportunity to define their vision for the future. It is a challenging and rewarding experience for all involved.

The teams competing in Toshiba ExploraVision are typically in groups of 2, 3 or 4. The whole purpose is to offer the reality of a research and development team experience. A teacher serves as a coach for each team. That coach is responsible for assembling the entry paperwork with their team and then submitting that paperwork to the NSTA. It all begins when each team chooses a technology that exists in their lives. Before each team presents their vision for this technology in the future they must first explain how it works and then present why, how and when it was invented. At this point they can then present their vision of the technology in the future. Each team must prepare a complete and accurate report of their entire report and vision.

This Toshiba ExploraVision Awards presents (4) teams with a $10,000 first prize savings bond. They also award (4) runner up teams with $5,000 savings bonds. In addition, all winning teams receive an expense paid trip to the nations capitol in June with their parents to participate in the awards ceremony. Each winning student also receives a Toshiba product. Those (500) who were chosen as Honorable Mention will also receive a unique and special gift from Toshiba. Every team that enters will win an entry gift. Teachers and mentors also receive gifts and each school from the winning teams will receive a Toshiba laptop. All of this makes this Toshiba ExploraVision scholarship extremely popular with students interested in science as a career.

The Stephen Phillips Scholarship

The Steven Phillips Scholarship was created in the memory of; you guessed it, Steven Phillips. Steven Phillips descended from a ‘well to do’ Salem, Massachusetts’s family that shared a respected interest in politics and education. Steven Phillips was a very compassionate man who took an honest interest in all whom he meant. His widow Bessie Wright Phillips established the Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship in his memory.

The whole purpose of the Stephen Phillips Scholarship was to assist those students attending college that were in danger of being overcome with financial woes. Typically this scholarship gives away anywhere from $3000 to $10,000 annually. The great part is this award can be renewed. As long as the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and their financial situation do not sway drastically they can receive the award through four undergraduate years. The money does have to be paid directly to the school and be applied only towards tuition. As long as the student is a high school senior preparing to enter college or a returning university student at a U.S. accredited institution than they are eligible. These awards are only used for undergraduate study.

In addition, only students that are permanent residents of Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut may apply for the Phillips Memorial Scholarship. They can be attending any accredited school in the country but they must be permanent residents of New England. The only downside is that preference will be shown to students from the Salem or North Boston area. However, all others eligible are encouraged to apply and are always considered for a Phillips Scholarship.

The criterion to apply for the Steven Phillips Scholarship is quite common. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien. Must be a permanent resident of New England. You should also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher when you apply. Your course of study should be demanding and you should present skilled writing ability. Character is also important in the decision making process. The applicant should have a positive view and desire to enhance society. Student should be involved in school, work and community activities. The student should be a goal setter that knows what they want and how they intend to get there.

A student that is willing to work part-time to assist with their college expenses will be well perceived. Students must present financial need due to heavy student loans or other special financial situations. They should have a low EFC or expected family contribution listed on their financial aid report.

The deadline date for the Phillips Scholarship is April 1st. This year there were 145 recipients. A total of 390 scholarships were renewed. For those who missed entry this year they are encouraged to apply before April 1st for the next round of awards. These $3000 to $10,000 scholarships can be yours if you are a U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien, are a permanent resident of New England, have financial need and carry a 3.0 GPA or better. Harry S Truman Scholarship

The Harry S Truman Scholarship was created in 1975 by the US Congress in honor of the 33rd president. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation manages the Truman Scholarship. Since the Foundation is an independent federal executive branch Agency, the Truman Scholarship is a federal scholarship. Congress decided that The Harry Truman Scholarship will be the official Federal memorial to President Truman instead of a statue.

The sole purpose of the Truman Scholarship is to discover and award future leaders by empowering them with the Truman Scholarship Program so their accomplishments can be accelerated. The Truman Foundation believes this will also have a greater impact on the rest of our society and for the better. Truman scholars desire to change the world for the better, but they all may have a different way of doing this, such as becoming a Senator or Congressman/woman who want to help people by getting those things done in government. A Truman scholar may also accomplish this by becoming a school president and lead by example which may positively influence every student & teacher who passes through the University. There is no one way that a Truman scholar is supposed to lead & spread their influence, they just do and their impact is felt by many. The Truman Scholarship helps make this much more possible for the Truman scholar.

Harry S Truman Scholarship Foundation Guidelines & Criteria

1. Awarded to College Juniors only.
2. Approximately (70) Truman Scholarships are awarded annually.
3. Currently Truman scholars receive $30,000 for (3) years of graduate education strictly for a career in public service.
4. Truman Scholars have the benefit of the Truman Scholars Association to network with past Truman scholarship winners.
5. Must be of service on campus as well as in the community.
6. Must be committed to a career in public service such as in government, uniformed public service, public research &education, or public interest or advocacy organizations.
7. Must have good communication skills and the ability to easily bring about change for the betterment of all.
8. Must have the academic ability to be accepted & excel in graduate school.
9. Truman Scholars must have all skills necessary & desire to bring about positive changes in communities everywhere for the good of all people.
10. Truman Scholarship written applications are required at Universities along with personal interviews who will then select up to (4) candidates ((3) transfer students can be selected too).

Going into public service does have its challenges but the rewards far out way them. Public service is not for everyone, but reserved for those who really do want to make a better difference in our world today, and are willing to fight some really tough battles along the way for change which the majority will ultimately benefit from. You must have personal qualities that are multifaceted and the desire & drive to put those qualities in action on the playing field of life. Bob and Jan Davidson established the Davidson Institute only a decade ago. This non-profit organization was created to promote Talent Development. It seemed that there were very many gifted young people who were falling through the cracks in the system. What began as a dream of support has developed into one of best scholarship in the United States, if not top in the entire world – The Davidson Fellows Scholarship.

For those under the age of 18 who have put together a significant body of work the Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards 10,000USD, 25,000USD and 50,000USD annually. They are looking for projects that offer an innovative solution with broad range implications that will make a difference in our lives. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship also rewards those who can create a prodigious performance. The category of Science is broken down into physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and earth and space science. Mathematics can be broken down into calculus, number theory or fractals. Music can be defined as talent as a composer, instrumentalist or vocalist. Literature must present a portfolio of literary styles. Philosophy must present a portfolio showing analyses of basic assumptions or ideas pertaining to human thought or culture. Outside the box must be a project that is University graduate level or comparable. An expert in that field must supervise these projects.

An expert in their field of study must nominate an applicant. A CD presenting their project must be submitted with the application. The judges will make their decision on the following criteria: 50 points for the quality and range of the project, 30 points for the significance of the project and 20 points for the applicant’s knowledge and understanding of the project.

Former Rhodes Scholars who received a Rhodes Scholarship are fascinating people who lead productive, exciting, broadly innovative, and diverse lives. They believe in the philosophy of students educating themselves.

90 Rhodes Scholarships are available annually, with 32 of them being earmarked for United States citizens. The rest of them are distributed among various other countries, such as Canada (11), South Africa (10), Australia (9), India (5), New Zealand (3), and Germany (2). Several other countries are awarded 1 or 2 yearly, as well. Candidates for the scholarships are chosen by 16 District Committees situated throughout the country. In order to apply for a Rhodes scholarship, candidates must have completed at least 2 years of college at a qualifying university before October 1st of the year following the year they make application.

Rhodes Scholarships provide all educational expenses for anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on the degree program being sought. They also include stipends for living expenses, maintenance provisions for other necessary expenses, and paid travel to and from the University of Oxford.

No student is restricted to any particular academic field but they must choose studies that are offered at Oxford and they must have completed their undergraduate studies in that same discipline. Many students seek to obtain Oxford’s notorious Master of Philosophy degree. Oxford offers many bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.

In order to become a Rhodes Scholar, one must be between the ages of 19 and 23, have completed the academic requirements outlined above, and possess multiple qualities of excellence in the fields of academics and sports. In addition, they must be individuals capable of contributing long-term, selfless investments to the causes of public service, world peace, and international relations. Although graduates may not necessarily dedicate their careers to these particular causes, they will be individuals capable of bringing widespread positive changes to whatever area they choose in a tremendous capacity.

There are high schools offering scholarships for children gifted in math, others for those inclined towards literature. The Jay Leno Scholarship is called the Fred Duesenberg Memorial Scholarship and you must be attending McPherson College as a sophmore, Junior or senior to receive the $20,000 award given to one student annually. You must show extreme promise in the area of car restoration and be gifted at McPherson College to nab this fun scholarship. The winner also gets to spend a summer on an internship with Randy Ema Inc, a car restoration guru, as you look over his shoulder to learn secrets that are not taught in the college classroom. This experienced pro who has seen it and done it all in car repair and restoration, will also teach these same secrets to you.

You may of eaten at Kentucky Fried Chicken many times, and never realized that when your a graduating high school senior and graduating between 12/1 – 8/31, your eligible to apply for their unknown KFC scholarship program. You most certainly want to do so because KFC is not chicken when it comes to awarding scholarships.  It’s the best scholarship among fast food chains with no other chain even coming close to what the KFC scholarship program offers to the finalist who win.

Here’s why…read on.

KFC has their very own chicken scholarship handed out every year, and it’s a solid paying fried chicken scholarship at that. It’s called The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program and it will pay for your tuition, fees, books, room and board. Up to $5,000 per year in KFC scholarship money can be awarded, and a total of $20,000 over four years in helping to complete a bachelor’s degree for those students who attend post-secondary colleges within their states of residence. Kentucky Fried Chicken hands out a whoping (50) to (60) KFC scholarships each and every year. Wow! This is unbeleiveable, especially coming from a fast food chain.

Colonel’s Scholars scholarships are a program of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation, which is essentially a charity. It is supported and funded by KFC, its employees, franchisees and KFC patrons (which is you and me when we go there to eat).
The KFC scholarship program criteria aren’t too difficult to meet either. You must demonstrate financial need, be a US citizen or permanent resident, plan to attend college at a public, in-state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/09), and seek a bachelor’s degree. Your cumulative high school GPA must at least be 2.75, which is low when it comes to scholarship eligibility standards, and you must of graduated between 12/1 and 8/31.

What the KFC Scholarship program looks for when it selects the winners, or finalist in May of every year, are people who demonstrate an exceptionally strong entrepreneural drive, and a “never give up atitude”. The winners will all have exhibited a perseverance to overcome and eventually succeed type drive inside them.

Applying for the KFC scholarships is done December 1st through middle of February, and you will be notified in May if your a finalist. An independent selection committee selects the KFC Colonel’s Scholars for each year.

How the KFC Scholarship Application Process Works
Since you can’t apply until December 1st of every year, you want to check to see what is posted at the KFC Scholarship program application page starting September 1st through December 1st just to see what it may say. It states that the program is closed between February 15th through August 31st if you go there between those dates. From December 1st to February 15th is where you can submit your application online only. You will be asked to register, to set up your account first. Once that is complete, you will be taken to a KFC scholarship eligibility quiz page to see if you pass that. This little quiz will weed out many people who have no chance to win whatsoever. If you do pass that, then you gain access to the main online application where you can work on the required application essays and other forms of qualification type writting test at your leisure until February 15th at which time you must submit your final application. You just log in and out during those periods and when finally done, hit the final sumit key. This is nice because you don’t have to complete everything at one setting.

This is one exceptional unknown scholarship offered through KFC, simply because of the large scholarship amounts awarded, and the number of scholarships handed out each year. Every high school senior should apply for this KFC scholarship if you seem to be fitting all the above KFC qualifications and also have the entrepreneural drive, which KFC will reward you for. This is by far the best unknown fast food scholarship today. KFC is not chicken when it comes to handing out college scholarships, that’s for sure!

Of all the various scholarships today, the Cincinnatus Scholarship and Competition held each year at the University of Cincinnati, has to be one of the most extraordinary and atypical college scholarships today. Cincinnatus Scholarships are renewable up to (12) full-time quarters along with completing (30)hours of community service. Minimum 3.2 GPA must be maintained.

Easy Steps to Apply for the Cincinnatus Scholarship

1) First fill out the University of Cincinnati admissions application and turn in by December 15th if you are an incoming freshmen with a minimum 3.2 unweighted high school GPA along with high school transcript and test scores. There will be questions on the application specifically to see if you qualify for the Cincinnatus Scholarship.

2) If you do qualify, you will be notified by mail that you will be receiving the Century Cincinnatus scholarship of $2,000 per year for four years, if you maintain a 3.2 GPA and complete (30) hours of community service per year.

3) You will then be offered an opportunity to compete in the Cincinnatus scholarship competition to be held on campus on February 7, for more than $18 million in University of Cincinnati four-year scholarships. This gives you an opportunity to earn more scholarship monies by winning the University, Founders, or a shot for the largest of the awards, the Ten Cincinnatus scholarships of $80,000 (est. $20,000 per year).

4) You will be asked every year to compete as long as you maintain the 3.2 GPA and (30) hrs community service. You’re guaranteed $2,000 every year, and the chance to earn more if you place in the Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition yearly.

The University of Cincinnati does not place restrictions on the number of freshmen eligible to recieve the base level Century scholarships. Whoever fills out the University of Cincinnati admissions application and “qualifies”, based on the specific questions which qualifies you for the Cincinnatus Scholarship; will be awarded monies. Then, each and every year you can choose if you want to compete on February 7th, for a chance to upgrade your Cincinnatus Scholarship to a higher monetary level.
