Dell Scholars Program

The Dell Scholars Program is sponsored by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. This Dell scholarship is not based on merit but rather on need. The Dell Scholars program was not created to examine grades as much as the people who earn them. Students who faced challenges in life trying to achieve their educational goals and endured builds character. They become role models in their community and can make a huge difference in the lives of people around them. At least that is how the Dell Scholars Program looks at things. It is for this reason that the foundation has issued over 300 Dell scholarships in the last 6 years at the tune of around $31 million dollars.

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation truly believes that excellence does begin in High School; but it is not simply based on academic scores; but rather on the goals and attitude of those students who are striving to make a difference. The Dell Foundation does support a college readiness program to help prepare High School seniors for the next educational level. The foundation is sincere in their belief that education opens doors and allows each adult to reach their full capability.

The Dell Scholars Program goes above and beyond financial aide. This program offers mentoring and leadership services that prepare, guide and assist a scholar through 6 years of educational bliss. The Dell scholarship award of $20,000 is only a small part of what the Dell Foundation offers its scholars. To qualify a student must have participated in a two year college readiness program sponsored by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. They have to be in their graduation year and have a grade point average of at least 2.4.

In addition; the prospective student has to be in need of financial support. They have to show need and be in the process of entering a 4 year degree program. Furthermore; they have to be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal alien. The foundation looks at the application very closely. They look to see what the student’s ambition in life is. They want to know if the student has goals and if they do; what their plan to make them a reality is. They are looking to see how well the student can explain the challenges they have faced or are presently confronting. They want to see applicants with motivation and determination and of course to see if you can show you truly need the financial assistance.

The Dell scholarship is geared towards students who know what they want; and know how they are going to get there. It is designed for those students who strive on hard work and the rewards that result from it. That is what the foundation looks for in prospective students and that is pretty good criteria to live by. The application process for the Dell Scholarship Program opens in November and closes the following January 15th.

Google Anita Borg Scholarship

If you are a female, Google might help you pay for your college education. While Google has many different Google Scholarships available, the Google scholarship that benefits female students the most is the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. The Anita Borg Scholarship for female students exists for the purpose of helping women who want to pursue an education and a career in the field of computer science or technology.

The Google Anita Borg Scholarship is available to students in the United States, as well as Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. Female students in these different countries are not competing for the Google scholarships with students from other countries. Instead, there is a separate Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for each of these individual countries, and each has its own set of eligibility rules.

For example, the United States Anita Borg Scholarship requires students to be female, to be entering the senior year of an undergraduate program of study or to be a graduate student, to be enrolled in a computer science program, a computer engineering program, or to a technology related program of study, to be a full time student, and to have and maintain a 3.5 GPA. Additionally, you must be a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident of the United States, or an international student attending school in the United States in order to be eligible. You can apply if you have already applied in the past, even if you were a finalist.

This Borg scholarship award is worth $10,000, and it includes an all-expenses-paid invitation to the retreat that is held each year at the GooglePlex in Mountain View, California. The winners are chosen based on their academic background and leadership abilities.

The eligibility requirements are the same for every country that is represented by the Google Anita Borg Scholarship, with the exception that you must be attending a school in that specific country, and you must be a resident or citizen of that country.

It is important to realize that this particular Google scholarship for female students is not available for first year students, or any student who does not have at least senior status in an undergraduate program. However, there is an Anita Borg Google First Years Scholarship available that could help you.

The First Years scholarship program is designed for students who are currently high school seniors, about to enter their first year of college. Winners are selected based on their academic background, their community service, their leadership abilities, and their level of interest in computer science. The award amount is $10,000, and these students will also be invited to the GooglePlex retreat. The application process for this Google Anita Borg scholarship is a bit longer, requiring multiple essays and letters of reference – which shouldn’t be any surprise, or any bother considering the size of the award. Although no set number of winners has been announced, Google makes multiple awards of all of the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships, with each winner being awarded $10,000. Because of the high amount, this Google scholarship is not renewable, and if you win the Borg scholarship for female students, you cannot reapply.

GooglePlex Scholarships

If you apply for and win one of the many lucrative Google Scholarships, there is more at stake than just the attractive Google scholarship award amounts that will be issued to help pay for your higher education, you will also be invited to the annual GooglePlex Retreat during your award year. The latest GooglePlex Retreat for 2010 is called Google Fuse and will be held July 15–17 in New York, NY.

Google Fuse exists for the purpose of bringing college aged computer scientists together for very effective and important networking opportunities. The retreat takes place each year at the famous GooglePlex in Mountain View, California. Typically, students apply to attend this important event, and only a handful of applicants are accepted. However, as a Google scholarship winner, you will be automatically invited to the GooglePlex retreat and all of your expenses will be paid, as a part of your Google college scholarship award.

Google Scholarships that are available include numerous Google Anita Borg Scholarship for the United States, the Middle East, Canada, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Europe, the Google AISES Scholarship – in partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, the Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, the Google Hispanic College Fund Scholarship, the Google Lime Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, the Google United Negro College Fund Scholarship, and the Google Zawadi Africa Scholarship. While the amounts of these scholarships may vary from program to program, the majority of the scholarships from Google are worth up to $10,000 each – which will go a long way towards getting a higher education paid for.

There are also Google Scholarships for Conference Travel Expense, although these scholarships do not make you automatically eligible for the Google Retreat. These travel scholarships pay the travel and boarding expenses for specific conferences, which include the Google Global Community Scholarship for the Grace Hopper Conference, the Google Travel Scholarship for the AISES National Conference and the Google Women of Color Scholarship for the Grace Hopper Conference.

The GooglePlex Retreat, or Google Fuse (the latest retreat), allows students to form networks that will allow them to share research information, academic information, and industry information and opportunities for many years. This retreat also allows those who are employed by Google to connect with the future generation of computer scientists, to impart important industry information to them, and to see what the future generation has to offer as well. Students are also able to further explore career opportunities in the field of computer science.

While the GooglePlex retreat is usually held in Mountain View, California, it can also be held in New York City, New York. The retreat can last as little as two days and approximately fifty students will win an invitation to the retreat – other than the Google college scholarship winners, who are automatically invited. Remember that even if you did not win any of the Google Scholarships, you can still apply to attend the Google Plex Retreat, although you may be responsible for paying the expenses of attending yourself.

Best Buy Scholarship

The outstanding Best Buy Scholarship for high school students awards $1.5 million annually to students in high school grades 9-12. The Best Buy scholarship offers $1,500 to one thousand students that reside in the United States or Puerto Rico. Best Buy has been a proud sponsor of this amazing scholarship since 1999. Those interested in applying for the Best Buy 15 scholarship must submit an application by February 15th of the scholarship year. The finalists chosen to compete for this outstanding scholarship from Best Buy will be notified by March of the scholarship year.

Applicants will be judged on many different areas. The reason for this is because they want to award the scholarships to those who present the best overall package. Academics are important but so are many other things.

The Best Buy @15 Scholarship is awarded to students that are attending high school in grades 9-12. The awards offered are broken down by grades. The freshmen’s or 9th graders will receive (20) scholarships. The Sophomore’s or 10th graders will receive twice as many with (40) scholarships. The Juniors or 11th graders will receive (90) scholarships and the Seniors or 12th graders will receive a whopping (850) Best Buy scholarships. That accounts for the (1000) scholarships offered annually by the Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program. This is an awesome amount of scholarships awarded every year by only one company and thats why Best Buy is among the elite on their generousity towards awarding scholarships and this may be one of the best!

Best Buy continues to be dedicated to the belief that high school students can be motivated and prepared for successful futures if they are only provided with the opportunity. They believe that teenagers can shine and this Best Buy scholarship provides the opportunity to do so.

The applicants applying for the Best Buy 15 Scholarship will be judged on various skills and attributes. Not only do these prospective scholarship recipients have to shine academically but they have to demonstrate community support as well. They will be looking to see if the students have volunteered in their communities. This shows good character and leadership potential. Those who show a concern for their community now are more likely to do so in the future as well. Best Buy wants to award the students who will give something back to their community. Although the Best Buy @15 Scholarship began over a decade ago it was not until the 2009 scholarship year that high school grades 9-11 were included in the program. The program used to be for seniors only. Over the past decade Best Buy has sponsored more than $14.5 million dollars in scholarships. The program has assisted over 11,000 students over the years. In 2009 alone over 147,000 students applied for the Best Buy scholarship. This means that 147,000 applicants are competing for only 1000 scholarships. That says a lot about the importance of this program and tuition assistance. Don’t let the numbers discourage you from applying for the Best Buy 15 scholarship though, because many past winners thought they didn’t have much of a chance to win and they did! It is one of the best scholarships for high school students that you can find today.
