Rhodes Scholarships were first offered after the death of Cecil J. Oxford University regularly makes the list of the world’s top 10 universities and is noted for their emphasis on individual instruction, as well as their commitment to personal and academic development. They believe in the philosophy of students educating themselves.

90 Rhodes Scholarships are available annually, with 32 of them being earmarked for United States citizens. The rest of them are distributed among various other countries, such as Canada (11), South Africa (10), Australia (9), India (5), New Zealand (3), and Germany (2). Several other countries are awarded 1 or 2 yearly, as well. Candidates for the scholarships are chosen by 16 District Committees situated throughout the country. In order to apply for a Rhodes scholarship, candidates must have completed at least 2 years of college at a qualifying university before October 1st of the year following the year they make application.

Rhodes Scholarships provide all educational expenses for anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on the degree program being sought. They also include stipends for living expenses, maintenance provisions for other necessary expenses, and paid travel to and from the University of Oxford.

No student is restricted to any particular academic field but they must choose studies that are offered at Oxford and they must have completed their undergraduate studies in that same discipline. Many students seek to obtain Oxford’s notorious Master of Philosophy degree. Oxford offers many bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.

In order to become a Rhodes Scholar, one must be between the ages of 19 and 23, have completed the academic requirements outlined above, and possess multiple qualities of excellence in the fields of academics and sports. In addition, they must be individuals capable of contributing long-term, selfless investments to the causes of public service, world peace, and international relations. Although graduates may not necessarily dedicate their careers to these particular causes, they will be individuals capable of bringing widespread positive changes to whatever area they choose in a tremendous capacity.

Examples of former Rhodes Scholars exemplifying the extraordinary characteristics required for qualification are Bill Clinton (former President of the United States), Bill Bradley (United States Senator), George Stephanopoulos (political commentator), Kris Kristofferson (actor/musician), and Faith Salie (public radio host of “Fair Game”). You may of eaten at Kentucky Fried Chicken many times, and never realized that when your a graduating high school senior and graduating between 12/1 – 8/31, your eligible to apply for their unknown KFC scholarship program. KFC has their very own chicken scholarship handed out every year, and it’s a solid paying fried chicken scholarship at that. It’s called The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program and it will pay for your tuition, fees, books, room and board. Up to $5,000 per year in KFC scholarship money can be awarded, and a total of $20,000 over four years in helping to complete a bachelor’s degree for those students who attend post-secondary colleges within their states of residence. Colonel’s Scholars scholarships are a program of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation, which is essentially a charity. It is supported and funded by KFC, its employees, franchisees and KFC patrons (which is you and me when we go there to eat).
The KFC scholarship program criteria aren’t too difficult to meet either. You must demonstrate financial need, be a US citizen or permanent resident, plan to attend college at a public, in-state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/09), and seek a bachelor’s degree. Your cumulative high school GPA must at least be 2.75, which is low when it comes to scholarship eligibility standards, and you must of graduated between 12/1 and 8/31.

What the KFC Scholarship program looks for when it selects the winners, or finalist in May of every year, are people who demonstrate an exceptionally strong entrepreneural drive, and a “never give up atitude”. The winners will all have exhibited a perseverance to overcome and eventually succeed type drive inside them.

Applying for the KFC scholarships is done December 1st through middle of February, and you will be notified in May if your a finalist. An independent selection committee selects the KFC Colonel’s Scholars for each year.

How the KFC Scholarship Application Process Works
Since you can’t apply until December 1st of every year, you want to check to see what is posted at the KFC Scholarship program application page starting September 1st through December 1st just to see what it may say. It states that the program is closed between February 15th through August 31st if you go there between those dates. From December 1st to February 15th is where you can submit your application online only. You will be asked to register, to set up your account first. Once that is complete, you will be taken to a KFC scholarship eligibility quiz page to see if you pass that. This little quiz will weed out many people who have no chance to win whatsoever. If you do pass that, then you gain access to the main online application where you can work on the required application essays and other forms of qualification type writting test at your leisure until February 15th at which time you must submit your final application. You just log in and out during those periods and when finally done, hit the final sumit key. This is nice because you don’t have to complete everything at one setting.

This is one exceptional unknown scholarship offered through KFC, simply because of the large scholarship amounts awarded, and the number of scholarships handed out each year. Every high school senior should apply for this KFC scholarship if you seem to be fitting all the above KFC qualifications and also have the entrepreneural drive, which KFC will reward you for. This is by far the best unknown fast food scholarship today. KFC is not chicken when it comes to handing out college scholarships, that’s for sure!

4) You will be asked every year to compete as long as you maintain the 3.2 GPA and (30) hrs community service. You’re guaranteed $2,000 every year, and the chance to earn more if you place in the Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition yearly.

The University of Cincinnati does not place restrictions on the number of freshmen eligible to recieve the base level Century scholarships. Whoever fills out the University of Cincinnati admissions application and “qualifies”, based on the specific questions which qualifies you for the Cincinnatus Scholarship; will be awarded monies. Then, each and every year you can choose if you want to compete on February 7th, for a chance to upgrade your Cincinnatus Scholarship to a higher monetary level.

The unknown Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in science was established by Camille and Bill Cosby in memory of their late son Ennis William Cosby. It is administered through Temple University Natural Science’s Department, which is located in Philadelphia, PA. The main campus is 1.5 miles north of Center City Philadelphia, very close to the arts, music, intellectual and culture scene. Philadelphia is the country’s sixth largest city. New York and D.C. are close by also. The Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in science selection is based upon financial need, and you can apply to Cosby scholarship if your a junior majoring in the natural sciences and demonstrating a financial need. The amount of this Cosby scholarship is (1) $2,400 tuition award, and is renewable for one year with a requirement that a 3.0 GPA is maintained. No separate application is required. The recipient is selected by the University’s Cosby Scholarship Committee of the Provost’s office, based on nominations from the Simon Gratz, Germantown, Central or Girl’s High School (all in Philadelphia).

These days there is much college grant money for college, and scholarships for college students available for the taking.  These are easy scholarships and grants to get. When you’re on your own paying all your bills, you need as much financial help as possible.  Scholarships and grants for college students are some of the best ways to take care of those bills.  While no cosigner student loans can be necessary as well, it is ultimatly much better to receive aid wherever possible without any payback burden. When your done with four or five years of attending college, which will be much sooner than you think, you will want as little college pay-back debt as possible.  While your education is crucial to your success in today’s world, you do not have to tackle the student expenses on your own if you don’t have to.

When I was planning to go to college, I looked into college scholarships and grants for college students. Though there were a few that I got, I found that many of the others were too complicated for me to tackle. I had no one to help me, so ultimately I ended up taking out no cosigner student loans to pay for most of my college education.
