UPTU Scholarship

Uttar Pradesh Technical University was the largest technical university in Asia until it was split into two different universities in order to better serve the population. One of these colleges is the Gautam Buddh Technical University, and they offer UPTU scholarships to students who may need help accessing financial aid to pay for their time at the college. As a matter of course, UPTU scholarships are supported by the national government of India and they are targeted to fund students who are the most in need. The university provides a plethora of technical courses, from aerodynamics to urban planning. Its overarching goal is to provide education to as many students as it can and bring a new level of learning to India in an attempt to foster growth and development.

Reported numbers of those attending the college tend to range anywhere from 75,000 to 150,000, with those numbers growing every year. As a nation still considered to be developing by the United Nation and the International Monetary Fund, a UPTU scholarship can go a long way towards attempting to expand the educated base of India’s citizens. With new career opportunities constantly opening up in the nation and abroad, India’s workers are quickly becoming one of the best trained populations in the world, especially when it comes to technological understanding and engineering. As a result, students would be remiss to miss out on an opportunity to attend the college, and UPTU scholarships will help them get to where they want to be academically.

UP State Entrance Examination determines Academic Eligibility for a UPTU Scholarship

With an estimated population of over a billion citizens, India boasts a large population of needy people who can benefit from a UPTU scholarship. Of course, before getting access to these programs, students will need to know if they can even make the cut. For this they will have to take the UP State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) which will determine academic eligibility. This is a new standard passed as of 2010, so students interested in getting into the university and then access to UPTU scholarships should familiarize themselves with the exam.

UPTU Scholarship Eligibility Factors

Students should know that many UPTU scholarships are limited based on certain variable factors. Those students who are minorities in India, members of the lower ranks in the old caste system, or whose family income is less than 1 lakh a month will be able to get access to need based UPTU scholarships. Any student who gets access to a UPTU scholarship will also have living facilities and access to meal plans free of charge. Applications for financial aid should be turned in no later than the start of the academic year in order to be considered.

How UPTU Scholarship Payments are Made

UPTU scholarship payments will be made directly to students through their university accounts, one half during the first part of the academic cycle and the second half during the last portion. This will allow students to budget per term in school and ensure that their classes are paid for when the next term begins. Money from these disbursements can be set aside in order to pay for classes between terms as well should the student decide that such an action is prudent.

UPTU Scholarship Amounts Vary

Depending on what categories students fall under, UPTO scholarship amounts can vary. There are four broad categories for the UTPO scholarship groups. Group 1 students can expect to receive Rs 7400 for those living on campus or RS 3300 for students who commute to school every day. The second group of students, Group 2, will receive Rs 5100 for on campus and 3300 for off campus. Third groupers can expect to get access to Rs 3550 on campus and 1850 off while those in the fourth group will get Rs 2350 on campus and 1400 off. Students who are attending pre-college courses at the university can also get UPTU scholarships depending on what school year they are enrolled in. First through fifth year students can get Rs 300 annually, fifth through eighth year students can get Rs 480 and ninth through tenth year students may get up to Rs 720 every year.

Meet the Requirements and Secure a UPTU Scholarship

Overall, students trying to get UPTU scholarships should not have a hard time of it if they meet specific demographic requirements as set by the Indian government. This will in all hopes make their education easier to afford and help the country continue on a path of national education initiatives.

Lowe’s Scholarships

Lowe’s scholarships are a great way to help pay for college. Each year there are several Lowe’s scholarship winners, and you could be one of them. Some of their scholarships are offered to undergraduate students that are about to start their junior or senior year of college. All applicants must be in mathematics areas of study. This can include finance and statistics.

Applications are due by November 3rd to be eligible for funding for the following fall of school. Applicants can turn in their applications though starting in June of that year. Completing the application for Lowe’s scholarship during the summer when you don’t have school work to do is a great idea.

Lowe’s offers about $600,000 in scholarships to students annually. They offer many scholarships on community levels too. As a result, you are often competing for them on a regional level. That means your chances of being awarded such a scholarship by Lowe’s is huge. It may not be the overall scholarships that two students earn, but some money for college is certainly better than not getting any at all.

Each year they offer 140 Lowe scholarships to those that are high school seniors and plan to enroll in a full time undergraduate study at an accredited college. Students must have at least a 3.25 GPA, show work experience, show leadership, and show community involvement.

The Carl Buchanan Lowe’s scholarships are for $5,000 each. They are awarded to 50 high school seniors that will be attending an undergraduate study program at an accredited college. This particular Lowe scholarship though is only offered to part time or full time employees of Lowe’s. Dependents of employees are also eligible to apply.

Applicants also need to have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and show some experience with work, volunteering, leadership, and community projects. Lowe’s scholarships can be used for two year colleges, four year colleges, and technical schools. The funds can be used for books, tuition, fees, supplies, and labs.

Students can apply each year for a Lowe’s scholarship, but they aren’t renewable. This means if you are awarded one it won’t automatically mean you can get those funds the next year. You have to complete a new Lowes scholarship application. It is possible for students to transfer colleges and receive funds through the Lowe’s scholarship program. It is recommended to contact them for such details about how to do so.

All winners of Lowe’s scholarships also make a commitment to help with promoting mathematics to students in the grades of kindergarten through 12th grade. To do this, all winners agree to volunteer at a local school to mentor in that area for a period of time not less than 2 hours per week.

The amount of money that a recipient will earn through a Lowe’s scholarship depends on several variables. This includes their financial situation and their academic enrollment costs. The scholarships range in award from $1,000 to $3,000 per winner.

There are several Lowe’s scholarships so make sure you read through all of the qualifications for the different ones. If you find several that you qualify for, and then apply for all of them. You never know what all you could be accepted for unless you give it a try. The amount of money you have for college through scholarships means less working, less student loans, and less stress as you navigate through your educational path.

Now is the time to get your Lowe’s scholarship application completed. You want to make sure you are able to have the best possible chance of winning some of the funds they have to offer. With Lowe’s scholarships, you will have more funding for college than you did before.

That is certainly a step in the right direction, so don’t overlook the possibility. The Lowe’s Scholarship 2011 winners are Joshua Harwood and Dario Biasini. Perhaps next year it will be your name that is here as one of the winners!

It is very possible that the school will have a non-profit entity tied to it helping to provide financial assistance to students who need it.

Families from Jackson County, Kentucky will be able to take advantage of the School Choice Scholarship in an attempt to find scholarships for local private schools. Dallas County residents may find that they are eligible for the Today Foundation’s private school scholarships. Families will be able to have up to 75% of their overall tuition costs covered by the organization depending on their financial standing and number of dependents in the household. All applicants will need to show financial need, live in Dallas County, be at least five years old and be entering kindergarten up to eighth grade. Depending on where a student is planning to attend school, there will likely be private school scholarships available to them. Located at the regional, county, or even city level, there are organizations around the country dedicated to helping students with sincere financial need access private school education. Parents should research and investigate all of their options, but be aware that it is very common that they will still have to shoulder a portion of the overall costs. While there are some instances in which these groups may pay for the complete cost of tuition, many programs expect parents to shoulder some of the cost and maintain an active role in their student’s education.

As a result, any recipient of this nursing scholarship agrees to work in those areas with a shortage for at least 2 years upon the completion of their education. The nurse would be able to choose from those current locations that are lacking staff at that point in time. The amount of money awarded depends on the program. The amount will cover tuition, fees, books, and a monthly stipend of $1,289. Applications are taken from February 1st through June 1st. Those that have been selected for such nursing scholarships will be notified by August 31st.

The Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship is another one that you should look into for your education costs in the nursing field. This scholarship is awarded to several students that can show financial need in order to attend an accredited school of nursing. It has to be shown that without such funds, they wouldn’t be able to attend. The award per person that is approved is $1,000. This can be renewed every year and they will also help you to find other scholarships for nursing that you may be eligible for. All applications must pass a background check and be a citizen of the USA. Applications are taken from January 21st through April 15th.

Kaiser Permanente is well known in the health care field, and that is why they offer scholarships for nursing students. Five students will be awarded up to $8,000 each with this nursing college scholarship. All applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

There are several nursing college scholarships for minorities as well that you may find you are qualified for. The National Association of Hispanic Nurses offers 10 nurse scholarships annually for $1,000 each. These scholarships are renewable as long as the student remains in the nursing program, and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications are taken from December 1st through March 15th.

Minority Nurse Magazine has a scholarship available too. They offer four nurse scholarships of $1,000 and 10 of $500 annually. Applications are taken from January 1st through June 30th. The funds would be allocated for the following fall semester.

The National Black Nurses Association offers 10 scholarships annually, based on GPA and financial need. Each recipient can be awarded from $500 to $2,000 for this program. Applications are taken from January 1st through April 15th. All applications must have a high GPA and submit an essay about why nursing is so important to them.

Johnson and Johnson scholarships offer student aid for future nurse’s and come in various forms. They have a separate website called ‘Campaign for Nursing’ which assist in getting you started in this direction. Those who want to be Nurse Practitioners can also benefit from this program.

The Tylenol Future Care Scholarship can also help those studying nursing in college. Ten $10,000 scholarships and thirty $5,000 awards will be given out for 2011.

Nursing scholarships are plentiful due to the need for this type of occupation. By being selected for any such scholarship you will have the ability to focus on school. Nursing involves lots of class time, clinicals, and studying. You likely won’t be able to work much while you are in such a program so do what you can to ensure you have all the funds you need.

Guaranteed Scholarships

National Merit guaranteed scholarships provide student aid and is widely available across the United States. Students who have managed to qualify for the program will have their picks of choices. Some states have more colleges involved in the programs than others, but regardless students have a great number of quality schools to choose from and they merely need to pick which one they would prefer to go to. Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Mississippi all have a couple of schools each, as an example, which play host to national merit scholars, giving out a number of guaranteed scholarships for those students. All of these universities get access to national merit scholarships through a partnership with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation which is a non-profit group. There are numerous different awards available through the company, including the Achievement Scholarship. In general students who make it through the program as finalists will find schools very welcoming to them, providing incredibly amount of money for them to attend their school. Students who come through as semi-finalists have a more limited set of options, but many schools still provide funding for them as well, some providing program nearly on par with the finalist equivalents. All applicants interested in the national merit guaranteed scholarship program will have to take the PSAT as the initial phase of the program’s screening process.

Wisconsin has two different colleges which provide National Merit guaranteed scholarships. The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh gives out an award which completely covers tuition along with room and board. Another $800 is given out on top of this to help student afford their books. All awards can be renewed for up to four years so long as students maintain a strong academic presence at the university. Over at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire also provides financial awards to national merit scholarship finalists. This program awards a single year of tuition which can be renewed for up to four years. In order to maintain access to these merit scholarships students will also need to keep a 3.0 grade point average while they attend school.

Kentucky’s programs worth note, and students interested in attending school in the state will find at least two different schools which provide access to national merit guaranteed college scholarships. Eastern Kentucky University is one of these two schools giving out both finalist and semi-finalist awards. Students who are eligible as finalists will have their tuition paid for up to eight semesters and be attending full-time. They will also have their room and board paid for along with a stipend to additional costs. In order to maintain the award students will need to keep a 3.0 grade point average. The semi-finalist awards gives out a scholarship which only covers total tuition costs, but also can be renewed for up to eight semesters. At the University of Kentucky, students will have access only to a finalist guaranteed college scholarship. This program pays for the full cost of tuition as well as living expenses at the university and gives out a $500 stipend to help cover additional costs. This is only available initially to freshmen, and students who are there as sophomores or up will receive their full tuition costs covered along with a $2,500 stipend for other expenses, no longer providing for room and board directly.

Mississippi has at least two different colleges offering national merit guaranteed scholarships awarded to students. The University of Southern Mississippi gives out both a finalist and semi-finalist award. Finalists will receive the full cost of their tuition paid for, housing on campus, a meal plan, and access to a stipend to cover the cost of books. Semi-finalists will only have their overall cost of tuition covered. Mississippi State University also provides both a semi-finalist and finalist program. Finalists will get $12,000 spread out over a period of four years to help defray the cost of education. Semifinalists will only have access to $6,000.

Bruce Lee Scholarships for Character

Bruce Lee scholarships offer a great way to get extra money when you’re considering how you will offset many of the expenses on securing an undergraduate degree.

Bruce Lee Scholarships for Character

Bruce Lee scholarships offer a great way to get extra money when you’re considering how you will offset many of the expenses on securing an undergraduate degree. There are particular requirements that involve much more than your grades from high school, but, if you meet them, you could land a large allocation, that’s for sure. Even though it’s long the application process won’t overwhelm you when you consider how much you could receive. These Lee scholarships are designed to help those with financial need, drive, and the ability to self-reflect, and can get you as much as $5,000. That’s a hefty sum!

Scholarship Requirements and Preferences
Earning one of the Bruce Lee scholarships isn’t an overwhelming endeavor, but you’ll need to hit a few key points that are important to the Bruce Lee Foundation. Education was always a mainstay in Bruce Lee’s philosophy, so a drive toward furthering that education and the maintenance of a 3.0 GPA throughout high school will always be required.

Character was another valuable asset that Bruce Lee admired. He always promoted free-thinking and honest expression of emotion and intention. These traits propelled him into the hearts of many, which is a position that he maintains even today, despite his death in 1973. Those with strong character and the drive and ability to persevere through adversity should apply. Work in the community will also carry a lot of weight with the selection committee, so if you have an interest in applying, be sure that you’re meeting all aspects of the criteria. The application deadline is February 28th, but details like this change regularly, so be sure to research the details before applying.

Who Was Bruce Lee?
Bruce Lee scholarships are meant to encourage those that have similar interests to Bruce Lee, a prominent martial artist and spiritual philosopher. He believed that education was paramount to becoming the best individual you could be, and overcame quite a bit of adversity in his lifetime. Born in San Francisco, the popular actor, director, and founder of Jeet Kune Do, Lee brought Chinese martial arts to much of the western United States. He maintained that everyone deserved to learn martial arts, and always advocated the proper care of your body. Bruce Lee always accredited his physical abilities to spiritual exploration, and believed that those searching for such enlightenment would find it and become very powerful in body and spirit. These goals helped to shape his entire life, and without the influence of Lee in American culture, martial arts may not have nearly the draw or interest that they maintain today.Lee was always known to be a confident, assertive, and resilient man. Fighting through injuries and the battle with his own personal demons, he always maintained a lifestyle that promoted physical and mental stability.

Scholarship Availability
Bruce Lee scholarships will vary in award amount, as there are multiple scholarships awarded. High school seniors are the only eligible applicants, as this particular award is designed for those immediately using the Lee scholarship. The nationality or heritage of high school seniors seeking this scholarship is irrelevant.

Scholarships awarded in the memory of Bruce Lee are designed to help those that aspire to achieve the same goals or life lessons that Lee pursued throughout his lifetime. Working in the community, maintaining the necessary grades, and of course, overcoming hurdles that would cause others to give-up will always help the applicant’s chances.

The allocations are substantial, and there’s no doubt that amounts like this can be the difference between a student graduating from college or deciding that they can’t afford it. Whether your field of study involves a university, technical or vocation school, or community college, there could be an award waiting on you! A visit to the foundation’s website or inquiring with your school’s financial aid officer can help you get the application process underway. Understanding what’s required the year before you apply can increase your chances, as well, so be sure that you’ve read the criteria, have exhibited the community awareness that’s appreciated, and of course, kept those grades where they need to be.

Cleveland Scholarships

Cleveland scholarships are provided through the long standing Cleveland Foundation Program which was established in 1914 for the young people of Cleveland, Ohio.

cleveland-scholarships
Cleveland Scholarships

Cleveland scholarships are provided through the long-standing Cleveland Foundation which was established in 1914 in an attempt to make higher education more accessible to the young people of Cleveland, Ohio. Like foundations with similar intents in other parts of the United States, Cleveland scholarships are part of a long-standing tradition which revolves around trying to provide students with new opportunities they may otherwise not have access to. As the organization has grown throughout its history its general wealth has expanded to roughly 1.9 billion dollars of which 89 million dollars was given out in 2010 for educational scholarships. Apart from providing many of their own programs, outside organizations often partner up with the Cleveland Scholarship Foundation to provide Cleveland scholarships for students within the city and the greater metropolitan area.

There are many different Cleveland scholarships available through the foundation and students should carefully consider all available programs that they may be interested in. While different scholarships may have their own eligibility requirements, there are several very general requirements which will apply to all programs. These include requiring applicants to be United States citizen, be preparing to attend an accredited university, live in the Cuyahoga, Cake or Geauga counties within the state of Ohio.

The ALCOA Fund is an example of a Cleveland scholarship program which some students may be interested in. This program provides up to $5,000 to a varying number of students every year, though depending on funding available that amount can be subject to change. Students interested in this program will need to be of African-American or Hispanic ethnic origin, a graduate of Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, enrolled in a two or four-year college and be willing to take part of a volunteer mentor program. All applicants will need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average and have their application materials turned in no later than April 30.

Another great example of a Cleveland scholarship comes from the Charlotte Alexander program. This program gives out multiple $1,500 Cleveland scholarships to a variable number of students. Students will need to be residents of Cleveland, be at least freshmen in high school with a clear dedication to succeed, be able to demonstrate financial aid, and be able to show that they have a parent who is interested in their education. The Charlotte Alexander Cleveland scholarship is due by March 15.

Looking over all the many programs available as Cleveland Scholarships it is clear that an incredible outpouring of support is readily available in the city and surrounding area. The Cleveland’s Future Engineers Scholarship is yet another great example of this very support. Limited to students who are residents of Cuyahoga County, this Cleveland scholarship gives out at least one $5,000 award every year. Interested applicants will need to have a 3.2 grade point average, be a graduating high school senior, be planning to go to a four-year university and demonstrate clear strengths in the fields of math, science, engineering, or computer science. All applications for this Cleveland scholarship must be turned in no later than March 15.

It is difficult to overstate the sheer number of scholarships available through the Cleveland Foundation, and one would be hard pressed to find a program which matches its exceptional gifts. Anybody interested in starting a scholarship with the Cleveland Foundation can contact them to do so, or donate money to an existing program. The Judge Leo A and Mrs. Gilberta Jackson Justice and Integrity Cleveland Scholarship has awarded a single $1,500 scholarship annually since 1999. Students who would like to apply for this Cleveland scholarship will need to be enrolled at Spelman College and be at least juniors in high school at the time of their application. All applicants will need to be interested in entering public service or a community oriented profession. As this Cleveland scholarship is in part given out based on financial need, student will need to fill out and submit their FAFSA scores.

UAW Scholarships

Students who are interested in United Auto Workers or UAW scholarships will either need to be current members of the union organization or children of members.

uaw-scholarships
UAW Scholarships

Students who are interested in United Auto Workers or UAW scholarships will either need to be current members of the union organization or children of members. Following a long and strong history of supporting one another, UAW union scholarships are often paid for by money raised through individual chapters located around the United States. In some instances large companies, such as is the case the UAW-Ford Rouge Powerhouse Scholarship, operate in cooperation with the UAW to provide additional monetary aid where they can. This is of course not the case in every area, and many of these programs are operated locally as well.

A first stop for any student interested in a UAW scholarship is either their Local office or through their parents should they be dependents of current UAW members. Specifics for UAW scholarships will vary from one local office to another, so interested students will have to do some of the legwork themselves in order to secure financial aid through this route. In many cases the small amount of work which will need to be done is more than worth it – some UAW scholarships can cover up to as much as $2,000 and higher depending on the program. Of course without asking students will never know what they are missing out on, so at the very least every student in the right position should at least find out what they can about their local program.

Mentioned above, the UAW-Ford Rouge Powerhouse Memorial Scholarship Program is one of the few nationally available UAW scholarships to students who are children of not only UAW members but also Ford workers. All applicants will need to also be intending to enroll full time at either a two or four year institution and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. The program awards a variable number of $1,500 scholarships every year to students preparing for undergraduate education on a non-renewable basis. The deadline of this program is June 1, 2011.

A great example of a UAW scholarship offered through a local office comes from the Marine Draftsmen’s Association – UAW Local 571 which has offered the john F. Saffomilla and E. Roy Colville Scholarship since 1998. This UAW scholarship has an award of $2,000 given to six different students. While in 1998 the number of awards given out was greater, no year since then has gone above six different awards. Students will be eligible for this program if their parents are a member of the Local 571 organization in good standing, they are graduating from high school and they are currently enrolled or preparing to enroll in an institution of higher education. To make the deadline for this program students will need to have all of their application material turned in no later than April 29.

Another great resource for students interested in a UAW scholarship comes from the Union Plus program, another nationally available union scholarship. This particular UAW scholarship covers anywhere from $500 up to $4,000 to a relatively decent number of winners every year. In 2010, for example, over 100 different students won awards in varying amount depending on their financial need and relative achievement. Students will be able to consider their eligibility for this program by determining whether their local union is an active participant in the Union Plus program, whether they live in North America, Puerto Rico, Guam or the US. Virgin Islands and whether they have been accepted into any form of college or not. Generally the deadline for applications is at the end of January. Currently the 2011 applications are closed but students will be able to access the 2012 program in late spring or summer.

UAW scholarships are great sources for students to find money for college. The best way to start looking for these union scholarships, apart from applying to one of the above mentioned national programs, is to stop in by the local office their parents work through and simply ask whether or not they have a UAW scholarship program. If the answer is yes – great, get the necessary materials and apply!

Xerox Scholarships

Xerox scholarships for minorities, offered by the copy machine giant of international renown, are available for multiple students from a diverse background. Interested in seeing students join their workforce who have technical know-how, Xerox scholarships for students tend to focus on degree seeking programs in computer science or other technical degrees. The rewards from a Xerox scholarship tend to be pretty high, though the number of scholarships available is not always equally as high. Students will find that a Xerox scholarship is sometimes available through specific institutions, but the bulk of their scholarship money is dedicated to national programs. Students who are ethnic minorities or interested in technical degrees will find a Xerox technical minority scholarship which will suit their needs nicely.

One of the biggest Xerox scholarships available comes in the form of their minority program. This Xerox minority scholarship provides from $1,000 up to $10,000 to a varying number of students every year who are interested in getting a bachelor’s degree in a technical field. During the 2010-2011 academic year, over 60 different students received one of these minority scholarships from Xerox. All applicants interested in the program will need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average, be an ethnic minority, and working towards an undergraduate degree in a specifically acceptable field. Fields of choice are in the hard sciences such as chemistry or physics and other fields such as computer engineering. A complete list of applicable degree programs is available on the Xerox website under the Frequently Asked Questions section. The deadline for submitted an application to this program no later than September 30.

The Xerox College Experiential learning Program (XCEL) is another great scholarship program offered directly by the Xerox Company focusing on technical fields or business learning. Students getting this particular Xerox scholarship will be responsible for working at the company through internships or work study positions. This corporate scholarship pays students based on hours worked or through a credit exchange program with the host college. In order to be eligible for this particular Xerox scholarship students will need to have a 3.0 grade point average, pass a drug test, and be able to legally work in the United States. This program operates on a rolling basis, and students will be able to apply to it throughout the year depending on what type of work they are interested in doing. While not a scholarship program exactly, it does work much like FAFSA work study programs in which students get access to funds by working at an academic institution. In this case students not only receive money which they can use for school or other educational needs, but they also gain valuable experiences and insights by participating in the program.

Apart from those two programs, there are not many other nationally available Xerox programs. What generally is the case is that Xerox may from time to time offer grants to educational institutions which may then be used to establish scholarship programs. The company also has a number of programs it operates internally which are not scholarships but will give students access to valuable experiences in the work place. The Xerox Student Careers website is a great place for students interested in engineering or business fields to take a look at. It gives not only details on the company’s minority scholarship but also introduces students to their future careers.

Students interested in Xerox scholarships can always attempt to find one at their local university, though with the limited amount of such programs that exist they will be unlikely to find one. In 2010 grants were given to North Carolina, Howard University, Spelman College and Morgan State University to give access to education to minority students. Additional grant money was given to California Polytech, City College of New York and the University of Central Florida through a different program targeting specifically Hispanic students. While Xerox is interested in hiring good workers, their giving tends to be heavily biased towards creating opportunities for minority students interested in technical degrees.

Scholarships for Community Colleges

Scholarships for Community Colleges are specifically designed to help students get their higher education needs fulfilled at a community college.

scholarships-for-community-colleges
Scholarships for Community Colleges

Scholarships for Community Colleges are specifically designed to help students get their higher education needs fulfilled at a community college. While not all students should head off to a community college, those who do not want to spend a lot of money or are otherwise unsure of the direction they would like to head in would find a community college a great place to start their education.

Community college scholarships come in a lot of different forms, from assisting students in getting their education at a specific institution or by helping students transfer out into a traditional four year college to continue their education. This article will primarily focus on those scholarships designed to help students afford a community college and get at least the start of their education at such an institution.

One of the nice things about community college scholarships is that they will often give students access to the money needed to attend a place local enough that many will not have to concern themselves with moving to new areas. The other nice thing about community college scholarships is that, because of the low cost of community colleges, students will not have to worry about finding enough money to cover a $20,000+ bill. Mott Community College in Flint, MI for example only costs around $3,300 a year to attend making a scholarship which awards $1,000 worth a lot more to a student who goes there.

The Coca-Cola Scholars All State Community College Academic Team Program awards scholarships for community college students of up to $2,000, covering more than half the cost of Mott Community College in our above example, and quite a bit of overall tuition at other similar institutions. The Coca-Cola Community College Scholarship awards a $2,000 stipend to a single student from 50 different states along with $1,500 to another fifty students coming in second place. Another $1,250 and $1,000 will be awarded to fifty different students each after that, meaning that over 200 applicants will be awarded stipends towards their community college education. Finally, another 150 students will be given an award of $1,000 bringing the total number awards up to 350. In order to be eligible students will need to be nominated, be enrolled at a community college, have a 3.5 grade point average, and be planning to get a degree. Nominations go through Phi Theta Kappa, though United States citizens do not have to be members in order to be nominated. The deadline for this program is November 1.

Scholarships for community colleges exist for all sorts of reasons. The Fisher Communications Scholarships for Minorities focuses on students in broadcasting at community colleges. In order to be eligible students must be earning their degree at a university or community college, be an ethnic minority, and have at least a 2.5 grade point average. Further all applicants will need to be residents of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California or Montana or, if not residents, be attending school in one of those states. Three different awards are given out every year and are adjusted based on need. Application materials must be turned in no later than May 31.

Like many universities, community colleges often offer their own scholarships to interested students. In fact many students interested in getting access to a community college scholarship should stop in and check with their school of choice before investigating anywhere else. Henry Ford Community College, as an example, has a list of scholarships for community college students available to incoming students. While amounts vary for each individual CC scholarship available at Henry Ford, students will need to have their general scholarship application filled out by April 4 for the summer semester.

While there are many different community college scholarships, many of them tend to exist at individual institutions and students should start their search there. Most community colleges will have programs within their own institutions which will help students pay for their education. While many of these CC scholarships may be relatively limited in available money any amount is better than none.

Leadership Scholarships

Educational Leadership scholarships are designed to focus on those students who have been charge of groups, organizations and specific projects.

leadership-scholarships
Leadership Scholarships

Educational Leadership scholarships are designed to focus on those students who have been involved in roles which leave them in charge of groups, organizations and specific projects. They are built up around not only encouraging that very sort of activity but by rewarding it and hoping that it remains as a regular facet of a student’s future life. While different leadership scholarships will focus on different ideas, the overarching concept is pretty generic – students who take on leadership roles while performing well in school and displaying a clear enough passion for a topic to take up the mantle of leadership should have available to them the opportunity to further their education. This means that students who have spent a lot of time in high school or even in college involving themselves in activities or clubs while also taking on projects and leading them along may very well be able to apply for leadership scholarships, helping to fill their needs for financial assistance.

There are many different scholarships for leadership available to students if they take the time to look. One such program is the Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship. While available only through the University of Washington, this program awards $4,000 to a varying number of students every year. In order to be eligible for the program students will need to be University of Washington students attending school at least full-time, continue to engage in a leadership project, and, in order to receive the full amount, cannot be receiving any other Mary Gates scholarships. The deadline for this program is January 24.

The Civic Leadership Scholarship through Kansas State University represents another great opportunity for students to get access to financial aid money. In this instance, leadership scholarships for high school seniors are given out by operating not necessarily in a formal leadership role but by living by example to others through a commitment to serving the community. $4,000 will be given every year to a first place winner, $2,500 will be given to a student coming in second, and finally $2,000 will be given to a third place student. Eligibility for this leadership scholarship requires that students have a strong record of community service, be a current high school senior who has been admitted to Kansas State University, and be planning to attend the college immediately after graduation. All application materials must be turned in by December 13.

Comcast, the cable service provider, provides the Leaders and Achievers leadership scholarship every year. With a stated interest in bringing about positive change in a given community, the national corporation approaches schools every year to find out what students have been doing their part to make the community a better place. Students who win an award through the Leaders and Achievers program will receive $1,000. Many awards are given out every year through this program and since 2001 at least 13,000 different scholarships have been awarded. Students interested in this program will need to be full-time high school seniors, display leadership experience in their school or community, and have at least a 2.8 grade point average. All students must be nominated for the program by their high school principal of guidance counselor. Students interested in getting a nomination should watch the Comcast website or contact them directly for deadline information.

Many different educational leadership scholarships are made available specifically through colleges or other institutions of high education. Having leadership experience looks good on a college application and a university with a leadership scholarship program would be a good place for many students looking for such forms of aid to start their college search. Of course not all leadership scholarships go through universities as can be seen above with the Comcast program.

Christian organizations, youth leadership programs and even some national organizations have an interest in helping young people develop their leadership skills to help move their generation on into the future. Students with a background in leadership should consider looking at the organizations they volunteer with or look into the national group to which any clubs they work with may belong for access to such programs.

ISNA Scholarships for Muslim Students

Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir Scholarship offered by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) to memorialize Shakir’s achievements and services to the community.

ISNA-islamic-scholarship
ISNA Islamic Scholarship

The Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir Scholarship is offered every year by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) to memorialize Shakir’s achievements and services to the community. This particular program is offered as an Islamic Society of North America Scholarship and it honors the memory of Dr. Shakir, a scholar and educator who towards the end of his academic career taught in Michigan, establishing the first Muslim World Studies program at Wayne County Community College. As one of the many goals of the Islamic Society of North America is decreasing interfaith barriers and increasing a broad understanding of Islam; this Islamic Society of North America scholarship works to increase education to those who win an award.

With the immense amount of humanitarian and interfaith dialogue which occurs as part of the group’s mission, one of the many hopes regarding the Islamic scholarship program is that it will serve to educate not only new members of the group but encourage further community involvement by students. While no form of community service is required of those who receive a Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir scholarship, the simple fact that students will have the financial assistance needed to better allow them to afford school helps foster the humanitarian interests of the funding organization.

Since the program’s inception, 20 different Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir scholarships have been given out every year. Each award gives out $1,000 to winning applicants which can be applied to the college of their choosing. In order to be eligible for the program students will need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average, be entering college for the first time as a freshman and be prepared to declare a major in any field. Though offered as an Islamic Society of North America scholarship, there does not appear to be any direct eligibility requirement that students be followers of the Islamic faith. However the Islimic scholarship application does require the submission of an essay detailing an applicant’s commitment to the faith, indicating that it is in fact specifically for Islamic students.

Some sources describe these Muslim scholarships as being dedicated specifically to ensuring Islamic students have access to financial aid in the first year of college, and the application does seem to agree with that assessment. All applications are judged based on both personal and academic merit. While the deadline for the program is normally July 29, in 2011 the deadline was pushed back to May 1. Those students looking apply in later years should check for updated deadline information to see if that deadline remains in following years.

Because the Islamic Society of North America is readily committed to humanitarian activities, another hidden eligibility requirement of the Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir scholarship is a clear dedication to community volunteer services. Looking over the application material, including the letter of recommendation form, it quickly becomes clear that the organization is looking for people who have not only volunteer activity experience but also have a strong potential to lead. Though not listed as eligibility requirements, the fact that the letter of recommendation specifically asks for information on an applicant’s volunteer experiences and their potential ability to lead suggests that it is in fact a requirement. Added to the fact that the application itself has space available for inputting volunteer experience, it becomes pretty clear that this is an important part of the overall requirements to win an award.

Islamic Society of North America scholarships for Muslim students can do a lot to help bridge the financial gap for a student’s first year of college. While the program does not offer a year to year renewal process, they are clearly meeting their goals of memorializing Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir by expanding the accessibility to education to as many new students as possible. A student who is applying as a first term freshman to their college who also has strong ties to the Islamic faith and plenty of volunteer experience would be wise to fill out an application and have it sent in by the deadline.

Essential to the goals of the scholarship program is providing assistance at an international level, giving out the vast majority of its assistance to foreign nationals. While a good number of scholarships are given out to citizens in the United States, the program really garners its great respect from the fact that so many of its recipients are financially needy students outside of the US. Davis Scholarships represent a fantastic opportunity not only to American students but to interested applicants all over the world, giving not only a single year’s worth of aid but also allowing students to renew their Davis scholarships in following years.

Important to understand is that grants are not given directly to individual students through a Davis Scholarship. Rather, the Davis United World College Scholars Program provides grants to its 91 participating institutions which are then given out as Davis Scholarships to winning students. In order to be eligible for a Davis Scholarship, students will need to check eligibility requirements at the institutions to which they are applying. This of course means that deadlines will also change institution to institution. The basic eligibility requirements are pretty simple in that they require students be attending a college from a school identified as participating with the Davis United organization and be able to demonstrate financial need. Students looking to identify a college which receives Davis United grants should look at their website under “Participating Institutions.” While the links will not always bring you to a website detailing the Davis Scholarship provided at that particular institution, it’s a great way to get an idea of where students may be able to go and receive financial aid from the program.

A good example of a place which offers Davis Scholarships is the College of Idaho which in 2011 funded six different Davis United scholars. This program gives out $10,000 per year for undergraduate studies at the College of Idaho and also offers dedicated support services for enrolled students. Eligibility guidelines require that students not be transferring in from another institution, and be enrolled at the College of Idaho. All Davis Scholarships at the College of Idaho are renewable for up to four years.

Students interested in attending the University of Richmond can receive a Davis Scholarship of up to $20,000 depending on financial need. They are all renewable for up to four years. It becomes clear pretty quickly that an immense amount of money is available for students interested in becoming a Davis United World College Scholar.

Students from 133 different nations around the world have received a Davis Scholarship for one amount or another. Paramount to the program is the demonstration of financial need, meaning that students coming from poorer areas of the world with a heavy need for assistance will find a good friend in the program should they be able to meet academic criteria. Since criteria vary heavily from school to school, students will need to look through and contact the appropriate persons responsible for implementation of the program at their university of choice. Since so many different awards are given out every year, and the selection pool with regards to institutions eligible to give out awards is relatively small, students have a decent chance of snagging one of these Davis scholarships if they have the academic chops and are able to demonstrate what they need in terms of finances.

Beauty school or cosmetology scholarships are designed to assist students in beginning a cosmetologist career by helping to fund their learning experiences.

Cosmetology-Scholarships
Cosmetology Scholarships

Similar to two-and four-year programs and universities, students wishing to pursue an education in cosmetology may be eligible for monetary scholarships. Beauty school or cosmetology scholarships are designed to assist students in beginning a cosmetology career by helping to fund their learning experiences. Many of these cosmetologist scholarships are funded by organizations or companies involved in the industry itself.

The National Cosmetology Association (NCA) is the world’s largest association of salon professionals with over 25,000 members and it offers ten $1,000 cosmetology scholarships in several areas. Five scholarships for cosmetologist are awarded to high school graduates, under the age of 26, three scholarships are received by current NCA members for continuing education in the field of cosmetology and two scholarships are given to the children or grandchildren of current NCA members to pursue their educational goals.

Joe Francis was a leader in the beauty industry, believing that cosmetologists should be honoured and valued in the same way as in all other professional fields. Due to his belief that hard working individuals should be given assistance in building a successful business, the Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship aims to assist students enrolling in cosmetology school. Nineteen cosmetology scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to students enrolling in school by the upcoming fall. Applications are accepted from January until June 1st every year and are awarded each August.

The American Health and Beauty Aids Scholarships for cosmetology fund several $250 scholarships every year through the Fred Luster, Sr. Education foundation. Fred Luster founded Luster Products, Inc. Academic excellence is a major consideration for this cosmetologist scholarship, as students must have completed a minimum of 300 high school hours with an 85% or higher average. Further considerations include high school attendance, any awards received, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Applications are typically due in November.

The National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/Distributors & Associations offers an Esthetician Scholarship Program through ACE – Access to Cosmetology Schools. Esthetician students will be eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship while attending an AACS school. Students must have an 80% or better attendance rate and grade average, as well as demonstrated financial need. Cosmetology scholarships are available every quarter and applications are due on the following deadlines: March 1st, September 1st, June 1st and December 1st.

Sports Clips awards several $1,000 scholarships annually to cosmetology students who attend an AACS member school. Only one winner can be chosen per school per year for these scholarships, although any number of students may apply by the January 31, 2011 deadline.

The Kathy Jager and Associates “Education Rocks” Scholarship seeks to help students reach their professional goals through education. $250 scholarships for cosmetologist are given and 2011 scholarship applications are available online starting April 1, 2010. Students must describe their educational and business goals in the cosmetology field in a short essay.

Six students of AACS member schools will earn one of the $1,000 Farouk Systems USA/AACS Cosmetology Scholarships that are announced at the annual convention in Phoenix, Arizona in November. Students must maintain an 80% or better attendance rate and grade average and additionally have financial need. The deadline for application is August 31, 2011

Dream Shears and Trade Essentials fund fifteen cosmetology scholarships of $500 each for students attending an AACS member school. The deadline for application is January 31, 2011 for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.

In addition to scholarships specific to cosmetology or a related beauty area of expertise, some scholarships for technical schools may be available. There are also several grants and school specific scholarships that students should investigate once the school of choice is decided upon. The American Cosmetology Education Grant funded by the American Association of Cosmetology Schools and their corporate sponsors are available for students pursuing a cosmetology or related beauty-field degree.

As with any scholarship or grant, the application process must be completed and considered well in advance of enrolling in the program, so students must plan accordingly. Also, as evident by the brief descriptions of the scholarships for cosmetologist here, it should be evident that grades and attendance in high school do impact acceptance into beauty school, as well as one’s ability to fund this training. While cosmetology school is not as traditionally academic as other post-secondary facilities, an individual’s habits and priorities prior to admittance and scholarship application do carry hefty weight.

Ronald Reagan Scholarship Honors Americanism

The GE-Ronald Reagan Scholarship honors Americanism and it seems fitting, because after-all he was the United States’ 40th President.

Ronald-Reagan-Scholarship
Ronald Reagan Scholarship

The GE-Ronald Reagan Scholarship honors Americanism and it seems fitting, because after-all he was the United States’ 40th President. Ronald Reagan, is widely known for his dedication, leadership, integrity and citizenship. Scholarships founded with Reagan as the namesake honor the qualities most associated with his success as an individual and as President. Recipients of these Ronald Reagan scholarships must exhibit the same characteristics.

Reagan worked in a variety of jobs during his lifetime and before becoming President. One such job was he worked for General Electric as a television host and ambassador, so the company and the Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program wish to honor students who embody some of these same characteristics in life and in pursuing their dreams of higher education. As many as twenty students will receive renewable scholarships of $10,000 annually, with the possibility of $40,000 per recipient over the course of four years. A $15 million grant will be funding the two-year scholarship celebration of Reagan’s 100th birthday in the Centennial Celebration.

One of the major requirements for consideration of this scholarship is a 500-750 essay response. “Before he became America’s 40th President, Ronald Reagan pursued leadership roles to inspire and advocate for those around him. Describe how your leadership and service has made a positive difference in your school, in your community, in your family and/or on the job, and how it will continue to make a difference in college and beyond.” This patriotism is at the heart of the GE-Reagan scholarship in that and viable applicants share the vision for freedom and good will of US citizens. Individuals must be nominated, recommended, and have their academics verified as part of the Reagan scholarship process. Applications are accepted through March 18, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year. Applications become available in the fall for the upcoming school year.

Another Reagan Scholarship program is the Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars Program which awards students from Ventura, CA with a number of Ronald Reagan scholarships totaling $50,000 annually. Applications are accepted through May, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year and benefit students with great academic success who also epitomize Reagan’s leadership skills and personal integrity. Applications become available in the fall for the upcoming school year.

The Phillips Foundation funds the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Program which also provides renewable scholarships to college undergraduates who value leadership to help embrace freedom, American values and constitutional principles. The program pays tribute to President Ronald Reagan in “recognition of his achievements on behalf of freedom, American values and constitutional principles, his optimism about America’s future, and his faith in America’s youth to protect and enhance the legacy of liberty entrusted to them”. Nearly $164,000 was awarded in 2010-2011 in varying amounts of $7,500, $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 to students with merit and financial need so that they could be more focused on academics rather than financial worry and burden. The Ronald Reagan scholarships may be applied for during the sophomore year in college and can be renewed one time.

A unique scholarship created by Ronald Reagan is the School Bus Scholarship. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation wants to make Reagan a real person with viable goals to those young children who will have no memory of him. In order to encourage schools to visit the Reagan Library and learn about the US’s 40th President and thus, emphasize those qualities in the current generation of students. Therefore, a school can be nominated to receive a Reagan scholarship to be spent on a bus to bring children and education closer together.

Reagan had the foresight to create the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation while he still held the title of President in order continue instilling his beliefs and the American spirit in future generations. Through these scholarships and many other avenues, the values and principles of this notable American are edified and recognized in individuals of future generations. His legacy continues through his Ronald Reagan scholarship due to the foresight and spirit of a great American leader.

IBM Scholarship Programs

An IBM scholarship program focuses on IT development and computer sciences and are limited to specific colleges or through the company’s employee programs.

ibm-scholarships
IBM Scholarships

An IBM scholarship program comes in a few different forms, focusing on IT development and computer science. While there are some programs available on broad scale many of the programs are limited to specific colleges or through the company’s employee programs. Students who are interested in IT should certainly consider these programs as viable options when applying for financial assistance, especially if there is an applicable IBM scholarship program available through their local institution. All students should be very careful when looking through potential scholarships as there is a plethora of IBM scholarships which have been previously available through various organizations but are no longer applicable. Doing a simple search for IBM scholarships will result in a lot of these programs which may still have active application portals but are no longer available for students to get funding from. As a result students will need to check out the application details very carefully and, if necessary, contact the administrator of a particular IBM scholarship just to double-check on whether or not it is still available.

Despite the confusing amount of old scholarships which are still available around the web, discerning students will be able to save time by looking only for those scholarships which are available in their academic year. As a brief example, students who are looking to apply for scholarships in the 2012 academic year should look for IBM scholarships 2012.

Offered for several years the Herman Goldstein fellowship IBM scholarship is generally available in every academic year. Only two different awards will be given out but the fellowship provides at max a $115,000 stipend and allows post-graduate students to continue their studies in an official capacity through IBM. Students around the world are able to apply for this program and must provide a full resume of their studies, an abstract of their dissertation, a three page research statement and three letters of recommendation. No central eligibility requirements stand for this program. Applications for this IBM scholarship open on October 26 and all material must be received no later than January 6 of the following year.

Another useful IBM scholarship focuses on women in the IT field who are undergraduates considering graduate education through the American Physical Society. This program is designed to offer an internship for women students at an IBM research facility of their choice. Applicants must be a female at either the sophomore or junior levels of their education, be majoring in science or a computer engineering oriented field, and have at least a 3.0 grade point average in order to be eligible for the IBM scholarship program. The deadline for this program is February 1.

The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship is an IBM scholarship designed to support post-graduate students in the pursuit of further academic studies. All applicants must be a member of a member school, be a graduating senior and be nominated by their academic institution. This IBM Watson scholarship awards $25,000 for single applicants or up to $35,000 for those fellows who also must support a family. The yearly deadline for this program is November 3.

IBM scholarships are relatively limited in who they provide funding for. Many of their programs come in the form of fellowships for advanced students looking to continue their education and research in a formal business setting. Students who are interested in an IBM scholarship should have sincere research goals and be willing to work within the organization. In many instances winners of these programs will be working at IBM or interning in an IBM facility for a limited amount of time. The benefit of these programs is that they will give students hands on experience in the field and help buff up a resume for future employment. Because IBM scholarships are relatively rare but generally provide an immense amount of funding, students would be wise to prepare their applications very carefully. It will be important to ensure that applications offer a clear direction and clearly explain exactly what a student is interested in getting out of the experience.

St. Andrews Scholarships

St. Andrews scholarships are available through the University of St. Andrews, the third oldest university in the united Kingdom and located in Scotland. It is widely considered to be an acceptable alternative to either Oxford or Cambridge, both considered amongst the top colleges in the world. Kennedy Scholarships from JFK

The Kennedy scholarship was established in the memory of the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

kennedy-scholarship
Kennedy ScholarshipS

The Kennedy scholarship was established in the memory of the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Widely considered to have been a man of vision before his assassination in 1963, JFK scholarships are often designed to carry his vision on to the youth, encouraging them to go through school and achieve their own dreams. There are multiple Kennedy scholarships to meet different needs for different people. The number of JFK scholarships available makes locating such programs relatively easy, though it is without a doubt that competition is going to be fairly high. Students should start looking at JFK scholarships as early as possible so that they can create the best application package they can, otherwise they may find themselves left in the dust.

Depending on the Kennedy scholarship an individual is going after, students may have to prepare an essay or be heavily involved in community service. Still others will require a high level of academic achievement or be targeted at a particular academic institution. There is also at least one Kennedy scholarship designed to help students from the United Kingdom find funding for either the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) or Harvard University.

The Kennedy memorial scholarship provided directly from the Kennedy Memorial trust for students in the United Kingdom is given out every year by the Kennedy Memorial Trust. From the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum comes the JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest. This John F Kennedy scholarship provides three different levels of awards. The winner of the competition receives $10,000 total – $5,000 in cash and another $5,000 placed in a college saving account. A single second place winner will receive $1,000 and at least one finalist but no more than five will receive $500. Eligibility for this program requires that students be high school students in the United States, be under 20 years of age and not be a previous winner of the award. All materials must be submitted no later than January 7.

There are multiple Kennedy scholarships available to students who take the time to look around. From individual schools to large national organizations, students should have no problem finding a program to which they can apply. Applying to these programs is not a guarantee of funding, but the stronger the application the better the chances so students are encouraged to try hard and keep focused into their academic futures.
