The award is a United States savings bond. The awards go to both junior and senior divisions and first place is $1000 with second being $600 and 3rd being $200. In each category there is a $100 award for an honorable mention. December 1st is the application deadline. Junior division is grade 8 and 9 while the senior division includes grades 10, 11, and 12.

    The goal of MALDEF scholarships for Latino students is to continue with their dedication to promoting civil rights for the Latino population. If you aren’t familiar with MALDEF, it stands for Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. The foundation started in 1968 and continues to be a very good resource today, especially with their MALDEF scholarship programs for minority students.

    Law School Scholarship Fund

    MALDEF offers Latino scholarships for law school. Annually, they offer 5 to 10 scholarships for law. The amount of each award is $5,000. All applicants must be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school program.

    Each applicant is evaluated based on their academic accomplishments and their community involvement. Their background, financial need, and how they have promoted civil rights in the Latino community as well as their determination to do so through their career. All applications are due by January 2nd annually. Winners will be notified of their award at the end of June so that the funds can be allocated for the following fall semester.

    MALDEF DREAM Act Student Activist Scholarship Program

    This is a Latino scholarship for college students that are active in promoting the DREAM immigration rights. This is a new MALDEF scholarship program that was just started for the 2012 – 2013 year. Winners can get a scholarship of $5,000 to use at an accredited college. The Latino scholarship for minority students is available for undergraduates and for graduate students. Applications are due by July 2nd of 2012 and winners will be notified by fall term. There can be up to 10 winners of this scholarship fund.

    Applicants must show financial need and also submit an essay about what they are doing to promote the DREAM Act. They also have to explain how their future career plans incorporate promoting that particular act. If you aren’t familiar with the DREAM Act, it stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors.

    This program is designed to help illegal aliens to be able to legally obtain citizenship in the United States based on their moral character and the fact that they have done well in high school and wish to pursue further education in an accredited college program. They can also opt to complete two years in the United States military prior to enrolling in college.

The dollar amount can be up to $24,000 over the course of 2 years. The funds are dispersed to the university and any funds not used for the student in that window of time must be returned back to the scholarship fund.

    Young Student Support Program

    DAC also offers a Young Student Support Program to encourage students to pursue studies in this particular field. The scholarship introduces winners to this type of program by setting them up with mentors and tours. All winners will get a free ticket to the DAC conference and banquet.

    Lilian Ruth Dabney Endowed Scholarship

    This is a need based scholarship from HU that can be up to $5,000 per academic year and there can be several awards annually. It is awarded to one student that can show the most need in the field of education.

    Faustine C. Jones-Wilson Endowed Scholarship

    This is a scholarship for books, and can be up to $500 per academic year per student. It is a need based scholarship. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. They also have to be enrolled in an education degree program.

    Students must show significant financial need that could determine if they are able to attend college or not at Howard University. Students also have to provide an essay about the challenges that they have faced and what they have done in an effort to overcome them.     Howard University Trustee Scholarship Grant

    Applicants have to be enrolled in actual classroom coursework. This doesn’t include any internship or practical credits. They can’t be working full-time either on campus or outside of the school. They must be enrolled full-time with a 3.5 GPA if they are a graduate student or a 3.2 GPA if they are an undergraduate student.

    For this particular scholarship from Howard University, the applicants must be recommended by a departmental chairperson. Prospective students should be aware that no athletic scholarships are offered at this university due to the fact that all of the athletic programs at Washington University are in the NCAA Division III, which does not allow athletic-specific scholarships to be awarded. All Academic Scholarship and Fellowship Programs at Washington University are offered solely on academic achievement.

    There are five undergraduate divisions at Washington University. They are the College of Architecture, the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Art, the School of Engineering & Applied Science and Olin Business School. Scholarship awards offered through these divisions range from annual awards of $3,000 to half-tuition scholarships up to full tuition scholarships worth $42,500 per academic year, along with annual stipends. Applicants should be aware that each fellowship or scholarship has a slightly different procedure for applying. All application materials must be received by no later than January 15th.

    The Arthur Holly Compton Fellowship Program is offered through the College of Arts & Sciences as part of their Honorary Scholars Program. This award program is worth up to four full-tuition fellowships along with a $1,000 stipend in mathematics and physical sciences.

    The college also administers the George E. Mylonas Scholarship program, which includes up to four full-tuition scholarships with a $1,000 stipend in humanities.

    The Liselotte Dieckmann scholarship grant program awards up to 16 half-tuition scholarships in the College of Arts & Sciences. Recipients for this scholarship are chosen from the Compton, Moog, Mylonas and Lien scholarship applicant pool. No separate application is required.

    The Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarship program awards up to ten $3,000 scholarships. The J. Stephen Fossett Pathfinder Fellowship awards up to one full-tuition fellowship with a research stipend.

    There are also Washington University scholarships and grants awarded in the College of Architecture, such as the James W. Fitzgibbon Scholarship. One full tuition scholarships, plus a $1,000 stipend is awarded. There are also five $6,000 scholarships awarded in this college.

    The College of Art at Washington University also awards several grants scholarships. Among those are the Conway/Proetz Scholarships. One full tuition scholarship is awarded, plus five $6,000 scholarships. Applicants to the College of Art who submit portfolios will be automatically considered for these scholarships.

    The Olin Business School offers Dean’s Scholarships in Business. At least one full tuition scholarship is offered as well as five partial tuition scholarships grants.

    The School of Engineering & Applied Science offers the Alexander S. Langsdorf Fellowship. Up to four full tuition fellowships are available through this program.

    The Calvin M. Woodward Fellowship offers up to eight partial tuition fellowships with a value of up to half-tuition for each fellowship. No application is necessary for these fellowships. Students will be selected from the Langsdorf fellowship applicant pool.

    The James M. McKelvey Undergraduate Research Award provides for up to eight $5,000 research awards.

    The Summer Scholars Program in Biology and Bio-medical Research provides for up to twenty scholars to receive travel expenses within the United States as well as living expenses for a 7-week on-campus stay during the summer prior to their freshman year.

    Other Washington University scholarships and grants include the Entrepreneurial Scholars Program, which offers up to eight $3,000 scholarships.

    There is also the John B. Ervin Scholars program. This program offers multiple partial-tuition scholarships as well as multiple full-tuition scholarships that also include $2,500 stipends.

    The Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program provides for multiple partial-tuition scholarships and multiple full-tuition scholarships with $2,500 stipends. These Washington University scholarships are university-wide scholarships and applicants may apply for as many as they wish.

    The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. takes its name from well-known author Horatio Alger, Jr. Alger developed a reputation for penning tales of individuals who overcome adversity through basic moral principles and unyielding perseverance. Throughout the late 19th century, the public was captivated by his works. The Association was established in 1947 in an effort to dispel the widening belief among the youth of the time that it was no longer possible to attain the American Dream.

    Today the Association is dedicated to the belief that through determination, honesty, and hard work it is possible to conquer all obstacles. In light of that commitment, the Association continues to work toward educating the country’s youth regarding personal and economic opportunities available to them through the American free enterprise system. One of the most important ways in which they do this is through the Association’s scholarship programs. The goal of these scholarships is to provide encouragement to students to pursue their own American Dreams. In addition to providing scholarships, the Association also mentors scholars and focuses on the importance of serving others. Members of the Association work directly with promising youth by providing education, confidence and support to help young people in realizing their dreams and goals.

    A total of 104 Horatio Alger National scholarships will be awarded through the Association. These national scholarships are able to be funded through the generosity of Association members. Today, the Association is actually one of the largest college financial aid programs in the country.

    Furthermore, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is the only major scholarship program which specifically assists students in high school who have faced and then overcome significant obstacles during their lives. Although there are numerous financial aid programs which are primarily directed to recognizing leadership potential and academic achievement, this scholarship program also works to seek out students who have demonstrated a commitment to utilizing their college education to serving others.

    The National Scholarship Program is awarded to students throughout the 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. National scholars chosen through the program will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. during the spring of their senior year, where they will participate in the National Scholars Conference.

    To be eligible for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, all applicants must be enrolled full-time as a senior in high school and must be making normal progress toward graduation. They must also have plans to enter college no later than the fall following their high school graduation.

    In addition, all applicants must have a strong commitment to pursuing and completing a bachelor’s degree at an institution of higher learning that is accredited and is located in the United States. Applicants must also have a critical financial need. A critical financial need is defined as $50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family. Higher adjusted gross incomes may be allowed with proper explanation, i.e., large family, extenuating circumstances, etc. It is preferred that applicants be involved in community activities and co-curricular activities, while also demonstrating academic achievement with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

    Each Horatio Alger scholarship has a value of approximately $20,000. All scholarship materials must be submitted by no later than October 30th to be considered. Due to the number of scholarships awarded and the size of each scholarship, these awards are considered to be among the most prestigious in the country.

    Past Horatio Alger scholarship winners have been selected based upon their interest in serving others and their demonstration of their ability to overcome extreme difficulties. Along with the 100 national scholarships, the association also provides awards through a State Scholars program in which awards are given to students in 23 states. Award amounts range between $2,500 and $10,500. In addition, the Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship is awarded to alumni recipients of the National Scholarship who are working toward graduate and undergraduate degrees. This Horatio Alger program is specifically funded through a grant from a Horatio Alger member and his wife.

    Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering previously offered a full-tuition engineering scholarships to any student who attended the college. The school has since reduced their automatic scholarship policy by 50%; however, the school still offers what is considered to be one of the largest merit scholarship programs to all admitted students in the country.

    As an engineering school, Olin’s goal is to prepare student to become exceptional innovators in engineering. The school is located in Needham, Massachusetts; approximately 14 miles west of Boston. Olin offers an undergraduate engineering program in electrical and computer engineering and mechanical engineering. Prospective students should understand the school is highly selective. Olin has been ranked as the #8 Best Undergraduate Engineering Program by US News. It was also ranked among the top 20 institutions in the nation by Princeton Review.

    Each admitted student at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering will receive a 4-year, half-tuition scholarship which is valued at approximately $80,000 over the course of four years. Admission to Olin is considered to be ‘need-blind’, which means the ability of a family to pay costs at the college is not considered when evaluating the application of a student for admission purposes. The overall goal of the half-tuition merit scholarship at Olin is to ensure the college remains an affordable option for students seeking a high-quality education.

    Students who are interested in applying to Olin and receiving additional assistance beyond the Olin half-tuition scholarship are encouraged to complete a FAFSA by February 15th to be considered for other need-based assistance. The Olin Grant is a need-based assistance grant that is awarded by the Financial Aid Office to students who demonstrate financial need. The school also offers need-based named scholarships.

    These scholarships are designated with the specific name of a donor and are awarded on the basis of financial need annually. Named scholarships may be renewable, depending upon the specific guidelines for each scholarship. Olin also offers state and federal need-based financial assistance in the form of the Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).

    The Olin College Tuition Scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 8 semesters of full-time study. Students applying to Olin are encouraged to pursue additional, outside scholarships as a way of reducing the total cost of attendance.

    Olin was founded in the memory of Franklin W. Olin; an entrepreneur, professional baseball player and engineer. Without a high school diploma, Mr. Olin managed to qualify for entrance to Cornell University solely through self-instruction. While at Cornell, Mr. Olin majored in engineering. He later founded Olin Corporation, which went on to become a Fortune 1000 company. In 1938, he transferred a significant portion of his personal wealth to a philanthropic foundation. Since that time millions of dollars have been awarded to various college campuses. The Olin Foundation has committed more than $400 million to Olin College. That commitment is one of the largest to higher education in the country.

    Olin came about as a result of the need to serve an expanding global economy by preparing engineers through the provision of entrepreneurship and business skills. During the late 1980s, the National Science Foundation as well as the engineering community began to call for changes in engineering education. The F.W. Olin Foundation determined that the best way to make the most of its impact was to assist in beginning a college that would address emerging and relevant needs within the engineering community.

    The school received its educational charter in 1997 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Construction of the college began on a 70 acre parcel of land adjacent to Babson College. In the fall of 2002, the school officially opened to its first class. Prior to that inaugural class, more than two dozen partner students worked with the faculty to create and then test a curriculum that would create a rigorous engineering education, while also offering entrepreneurship and business learning combined with social sciences, arts and humanities.

This is an automatic scholarship award. All incoming students who meet the criteria will receive the scholarship. Award amounts vary between $500 and $4,500. The scholarship is renewable for a total of four years as long as the student remains enrolled and has a GPA of 2.0. Students must be offered admission to Iowa State by March 1st to be considered for the scholarship.

    There are also several academic scholarships for high school seniors offered at Iowa State. 100 full-time tuition ISU scholarships will be awarded to incoming minority freshmen students as part of the George Washington Carver Tuition scholarship program. Students must enter Iowa State directly from high school and must be in the top 25% of their class or have a 3.5 GPA and a composite ACT score of 24 or a SAT score of 1100. Scholarships in this program are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis among students applying for undergraduate admission to the school. This scholarship is renewable for an additional three years. Further eligibility requirements include filing a FAFSA.

    The Fund Incoming Freshmen scholarship is automatically offered to incoming freshmen students at Iowa State who select Genetics as a major. Transfer students are not eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship has a value of $1,000 to $4,000. The scholarship may be renewed for up to a total of four years. Recipients are selected on GPA, class rank and SAT/ACT scores.

    The Christina Hixson Opportunity Award has a value of $10,000 and is issued over for years at $2,500 per year. 100 high school seniors from across the state of Iowa will receive the award. The ideal goal is for each recipient to represent a county in Iowa.

    The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Award for High School Juniors scholarship is presented to juniors in a high school in Iowa or home school program. The scholarship program is sponsored by the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association in West Branch. Recipients are selected to participate in the program and will receive $750 awards. There are also three $5,000 scholarships that are awarded annually.

    With the number of Iowa State University scholarships  available, prospective students who are considering attending this school will find they have ample financial resources available to them to assist in their goal of completing a higher education with their many scholarships and grants.

    Each year, the HAIS scholarships for Jewish refugees and immigrants program provides more than 200 scholarships annually to refugee and immigrant students in the United States and Israel. HIAS, or the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, is an international organization which works closely with the American Jewish community, offering rescue and refuge to Jews who are persecuted and oppressed around the world. As the number of Jewish refugees has diminished in recent years, the organization has directed their attention to assisting both refugees and immigrants from all backgrounds. HIAS works with numerous partners, including the Israeli government, the US government, UN agencies and a variety of non-governmental organizations.

    Depending upon location, the services offered by HIAS may include art therapy, trauma counseling, humanitarian assistance, and legal advice. HIAS has assisted refugees from almost two dozen countries with resettlement in the United States, citizenship programs and immigrant integration.

    The overall mission of the Hebrew International Aid Society draws heavily on Jewish tradition. HIAS provides services to Jewish refugees and immigrants as well as others who are in need irrespective of their nationality, religion, or ethnic background, as instructed by the Torah to help the stranger and ‘fix the world.’ These instructions provide the driving force behind the work HIAS performs.

    The work that HIAS has performed has been so instrumental that the New York Times has stated that if it were not for HIAS, there might be no Google today. Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, is just one of the many people HIAS assisted. Mr. Brin was only 6 years old when he arrived in the United States from the former Soviet Union with his family through assistance from HIAS.

    HIAS was approached by Edwin and Claire Shapiro in 1974 regarding the establishment of the Richard Alan Shapiro Scholarship fund in memory of the couple’s son, who was killed in an auto accident. Within a short period of time, Norbert Schimmel also created a scholarship fund in memory of his son. Since that time, the HIAS scholarship program has continued to expand, and has provided almost 3,000 awards to immigrant students in Israel and the United States. Through the provision of these awards, students have been able to achieve their goals and study a wide range of subjects. Scholarships are provided to undergraduate as well as graduate students who have immigrated to the U.S. after January 1, 1992.

    In order to be eligible for a HIAS scholarship, prospective applicants must have immigrated to the United States with assistance from HIAS. Applicants must furthermore be enrolled in a college, university or technical school in the United States and must have been enrolled for a minimum of one year prior to applying for a scholarship. There are no age limits which apply to the HIAS scholarship program. Previous scholarship recipients are still eligible to apply for another scholarship. Scholarships are judged on the basis of academic merit, financial need and community service.

    The value of U.S. scholarships has been increased to $4,000. Other key elements of the HIAS Scholars program include participation in community building projects that serve local immigrant communities. In addition, the program offers leadership skill training as well as educational programs that include Jewish perspectives on current immigration issues, genealogy, career development and advocacy skills building. Participants in the program will also have the chance to meet their scholarship donor, as well as other HIAS scholars.

    There will also be an opportunity to interact with other HIAS community members during orientations and scholarship ceremonies which are held in New York City and Los Angeles. Scholars will also be included in HIAS Young Leaders, which is a community of students and young professionals with a devotion to furthering the mission of HIAS by assisting immigrants, and also by advocating for fair immigration laws.

    All scholarship applicants should understand that the final determination of their candidacy for a scholarship will be based upon their ability to fully participate in the program; including events and activities. This will also include completion of a community-service project that will serve a local immigrant community and a full written report of the scholarship recipient’s experience.

    All HIAS scholarships for Jewish refugees and immigrants must have their application materials submitted by no later than the last day of February.

    There are more than 1,500 University of Iowa scholarships grants available to prospective students each year. These grants and scholarships are awarded to outstanding students on the basis of academic merit, financial need or both. Unlike some scholarship grant programs, students may receive multiple scholarships through this program. Students who receive a University of Iowa scholarship will not be disqualified if they also receive additional need-based loans or grants.

    The University of Iowa campus is located near the beautiful downtown area of Iowa City, which is known for being student-oriented and pedestrian-friendly. The school offers a variety of sports, social events and lovely scenery. Students attending the school can enjoy concerts, live theater, guest lectures, museums, art exhibits and bookstores; all without the need to ever leave campus. The school also offers easy access to a variety of activities. Kinnick Stadium is only three blocks away and the Iowa River is located one block from the school. There are approximately 500 student organizations present on campus at the University of Iowa. For those students who are looking for more low-key activities, options include taking a relaxing walk along the scenic banks of the Iowa River or kayaking on Lake Macbride. The Iowa River Trail is also excellent for those who enjoy cycling.

    Among the University of Iowa scholarships grants available are scholarships for first-year students, those students who are entering the university directly from high school, as well as scholarships for transfer students who are transferring to the school from another college or university. In addition, the university offers several scholarships specifically for international students, whether they are first-year or transfer students. Along with these scholarships, there are also additional scholarships that are offered by various academic departments and colleges at the University of Iowa.

    The Iowa Heritage Award is for non-resident students entering the university who have a parent, grandparent, step-parent, legal guardian or grandparent who graduated from the university. The scholarship has a value of $1,500 and is renewable. The deadline to apply for the spring semester is December 7th and the deadline to apply for the summer and fall semester is May 4th.

    The Iowa Community College Transfer Academic scholarship is for students who transfer to the university from a community college in Iowa and who have earned 30 semester hours by the time of their application. The value of this scholarship is $1,000 and is renewable. There are 35 awards available based upon highest grade point average. Applications must be submitted by October 1st for the spring semester and by March 1st for the summer or fall semester.

    The Presidential Scholarship Program consists of two award tiers. The top twenty candidates who receive the Presidential Scholarship as well as the Old Gold Scholarship will receive a combined value of $13,000 per year for a total of up to four years and $52,000. As many as 350 applicants in the second candidate tier will be awarded the Old Gold Scholarship, worth $3,000 per year for up to four years. Both of these scholarships require applicants to have an ACT composite score of at least 30 or a combined SAT critical reading and math score of at least 1330. Candidates must also have a GPA of at least 3.8. The deadline to apply for fall is the prior December.

    The Dean Gerhard Loewenberg Scholarship is for the top-ranking alternate candidate in the Presidential Scholarship competition who is also majoring in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences programs. The value of this scholarship ranges between $1,000 and $2,500. This is a one-time scholarship award for first-year students only. It is not renewable and only one award will be given.

    The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Excellence Award is for selected Old Gold Scholars who major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This scholarship is worth between $1,000 and $2,000. There are five awards available. These University of Iowa scholarships grants are not renewable.

    With the sheer volume of scholarships and grants awarded each year, prospective students should take a closer look at the University of Iowa as their future college of choice. With 1500 annual UOI scholarships given out; student chances just got better.

    Numerous University of Toronto scholarships are available to assist students with there goal of completing a college degree. Approximately 150 admission or entrance scholarshipsare available. Students are automatically considered for admission scholarships when they apply to the university. There is no separate scholarship application required. Most such entrance scholarships are based on academic excellence, although there are some admission scholarships that take financial need into consideration.

    There are also approximately 400 University of Toronto scholarships that are termed at in-course scholarships. Most in-course scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement. An application is also typically not required for these automatic scholarships.

    In addition, the school offers a number of awards and bursaries that are based on financial need. There are also a small number of graduating year awards and fellowships awarded annually to students who will be pursuing graduate studies at the University of Toronto. The deadline to apply for these awards and fellowships is May 1st of the student’s graduating year. The college also offers a few travel awards to assist students in their goal of traveling elsewhere to enhance their studies. Approximately 100 additional awards are available for academic performance in courses and specific programs.

    Each year, the University of Toronto awards approximately 1,900 scholarships that total $2,500,000. Of these scholarships, 350 are admission scholarships that are given to students that enter any college or faculty their. The remaining scholarships are awarded by particular faculties or colleges of the university.

    There are several University of Toronto scholarships that are awarded annually and are renewable. These scholarships are awarded at admission. One such scholarship is the Howard Ferguson Provincial Scholarship, which was made in honor of Howard Ferguson by his wife, Ella Ferguson. The Honorable Howard Ferguson was the Premier of the Province of Ontario from 1923 to 1930. This scholarship recognizes outstanding Ontario students who apply from outside the Greater Toronto area. The value of the scholarship is $3,000 and can be renewed for up to three times.

    The George Roderick Fraser Scholarships for Mathematical Studies was made at the request of Verna Peal Fraser in memory of her husband, George Roderick Fraser. The scholarship is specifically for students with plans to pursue mathematical studies and who are from schools outside the Greater Toronto Area. The scholarship is worth $3,000 and can be renewed three times.

    The Florence Louisa Cody Memorial Scholarships is given in honor of the late Canon H.J. Cody and Florence Louisa Cody. The scholarship has a value of $2,500 over a period of four years and is for students from schools outside the Greater Toronto area.

    The Arthur Cohen Memorial Scholarship is given in honor of the late Arthur Cohen and has a value of $2,500 over a period of four years and is for students with a general proficiency, including English and French.

    The Sir John Gibson Scholarship is given in honor of the late Sir John Gibson and has a value of $2,400 over a period of four years. James Harris Scholarships have a value of $800 each for a total possible value of $2,800 over four years.

    The University of Toronto Scholars Program offers recognition to outstanding students of the university at the time of admission as well as on an ongoing basis. Approximately 350 awards valued at $5,000 each are awarded. Outstanding students will be automatically considered for these University of Toronto scholarships when they apply to the school.

    The President’s Entrance scholarship program offers an award of at least $2,000 for applicants who meet certain criteria and enroll in their first year at the University of Toronto during the fall semester. No separate application is required. Applicants will be automatically considered for this scholarship. To be eligible for the President’s Entrance scholarship program, applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, must be studying at a secondary school or Year 1 of the CEGEP in Canada, must have completed each of the courses required for admission, which also includes all prerequisites with an A standing and must have an admission average of at least 92%.

    While Google has become known for offering numerous Google scholarships, they have now joined with the Student Veterans of America organization to offer a Google Student Veterans of America (SVA) scholarships.

    Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a non-profit organization that provides veterans with advocacy, support and resources necessary to succeed in higher education and their future careers. This SVA scholarship is available to any student veteran who is pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field in the United States.

    Along with the financial reward associated with the scholarship, recipients of the scholarship will also receive an invitation to attend a scholar’s retreat, which is all-expenses paid, at the Googleplex located in Mountain View, California during the summer of 2012.

    Google has demonstrated a long history of assisting college students in their pursuit of a computer science education through the availability of scholarship and internship opportunities. The search engine giant first began to offer Google scholarships in 2004. Since that time, Google has provided nearly $9 million in scholarship funds and financial support to some 2,100 students from groups around the world that are historically underrepresented.

    The company’s academic scholarship programs are only one part of their worldwide efforts to increase diversity within the technology industry while also investing in what will become the next generation of computer scientists. The mission of Google’s partnership with SVA is to ensure that student veterans within the United States have the necessary support to pursue education and careers in the technology field.

    Google’s commitment to assisting military veterans has also extended beyond scholarship opportunities and educational outreach efforts. These efforts have included establishment of the Google Veterans Network, which is one of several employee groups that is dedicated to the support of diversity at Google.

    The company has also introduced a job search engine customized for the use of veterans, known as the Veterans Job Bank. The job bank was established in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

    The overall goal of the Google SVA scholarship is to provide a continuing commitment to the advancement of technology and computing by helping veteran students to excel in their studies and remain active leaders and role models. It is also hoped that the SVA scholarship will help to dismantle barriers that may prevent women and minorities from entering these fields.

    The Google-SVA Scholarship program rewards high-caliber student veterans who are working to pursue a degree within the Computer Science field. By identifying high-performing student veterans within this field and rewarding achievement, it is hoped that further study will be encourages.

    The program also seeks to improve the retention of student veterans in this field by providing funding for university expenses, including tuition, fees and books. Through the sponsorship of the Annual Scholars’ Retreat, it is hoped that communities of students will be fostered, while providing a positive environment in which student veterans may network with one another as well as with engineers from Google in a fun and relaxing environment.

    Up to eight $10,000 Google SVA scholarships will be provided to student veterans through the Google-SVA scholarship program. To be eligible to receive one of the scholarships, students must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field such as computer engineering, software engineering, information systems, applied networking, information technology, electrical engineering or system administration.

    The SVA scholarship is only open to sophomores, juniors or seniors. Freshman students are not eligible to apply for the scholarship. Students must be enrolled in a full-time course of study. Students must also have received an honorable discharge or must be currently in good standing with their branch of service in the U.S. military. Applicants will also need to submit a personal statement that details their reasons for applying for the scholarship, the reasons for selecting their major, their professional objectives, their roles as a leader in their SVA chapter or community and any additional community service initiatives they have been involved with. The deadline to apply for the Google SVA scholarship is March 15th.

    SWE scholarships for women engineers are sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers. These women’s scholarships are offered as a way of providing financial assistance to women who are admitted to graduate or baccalaureate programs and who are preparing for careers in engineering technology, engineering or computer science. 188 new and renewed engineer scholarships were issued by SWE in 2011. These SWE scholarships had a combined total value of $540,000.

    Additionally, SWE launched its first international scholarship in 2010. This engineer scholarship is awarded to students who are studying at a university located in Queretaro, Mexico. There are currently several programs approved by SWE at the four universities in this area. Each of the womens scholarships awarded by SWE ranges in value from $1,000 each to $20,000 each.

    There are several SWE scholarships for women engineers available to graduate and undergraduate students. Interested applicants need only complete one application to be considered for all engineering scholarships for which they are available.

    Two Accenture Scholarships worth $2,000 each are awarded to sophomore students. There are also two Accenture Scholarships valued at $2,000 each which are awarded to junior level students.

    One Applied Computer Security Associates Cybersecurity Scholarship is awarded each year to a junior, senior or graduate student. This scholarship is worth $10,000. Eligible students must major in computer science, cyber security, etc.

    Three Baker Huges Scholarships for women engineers worth $5,000 each are awarded to sophomore, junior, senior or graduate students. Underrepresented groups are given preference for this scholarship.

    One Anne Maureen Whitney Barrow Memorial Scholarship worth $7,000 is issued. This society of women engineers scholarship is renewable for a maximum of five years. It is issued to a sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate student. All engineering students are eligible.

    Two Bechtel Foundation Scholarships are awarded. These women engineering scholarships were established in 2000 and are awarded to sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate students. SWE membership is required to be considered for these all women scholarships.

    There are two Boston Scientific Scholarships awarded to senior undergraduate students each year. These scholarships for women engineers were established in 2004 and have a value of $5,000 each.

    The Brill Family Scholarship awards $1,000 each year to a sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in Biomed or Aeronautics engineering.

    There are currently three Caterpillar Scholarships offered to sophomore, junior, senior or graduate students. These women’s engineering scholarships are worth $2,400 each.

    The SWE Central New Mexico Pioneers Scholarship is worth $1,250 and is renewable for a period of three years. This scholarship is awarded to sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate students. All engineering students may apply.

    Five Chevron Scholarships worth $2,000 each are awarded to sophomore students each year. Priority is given to underrepresented groups.

    Two Dell Computer Corporation Scholarships are issued as part of the SWE scholarships program each year. These scholarships are worth $2,250 each. Selections for winners are also based on financial need.

    Fifteen General Electric Women’s Network Scholarships worth $5,000 each are issued annually to sophomore and junior undergraduate students. SWE membership is required to apply for these SWE scholarships for women.

    Four Goldman Sachs Scholarships worth $2,000 are issued annually. These SWE scholarships also offer a $500 travel stipend for students to attend the annual SWE conference. The women engineer scholarships are only open to junior and senior undergrad students who are members of SWE.

    The application date for SWE scholarships for sophomore students through graduate students is usually February 15th. The application deadline for scholarships for freshmen students is typically May 15th.

    PEO scholarships for womenoffer excellent college funding opportunities through a variety of different programs, including grants. P.E.O was initially founded in January of 1869 by a group of students at Iowa Wesleyan College. Eventually the group expanded to include off-campus members who shared the same enthusiasm for opportunities for women. Today this group has grown to encompass nearly 250,000 members in chapters located not only in the United States, but also Canada.

    The cornerstone of P.E.O is friendship, with a goal of providing support and encouragement to women who wish to realize their potential in whatever endeavor they may desire. As such, education remains the main philanthropy of P.E.O. This group currently sponsors six international projects or philanthropies; each specifically designed to help women with reaching their own personal educational goals.

    As a result, P.E.O continues to make a difference in lives of women around the world. More than 85,000 women have benefitted through P.E.O’s loans, educational grants, special projects, awards and a special stewardship of Cottey College. P.E.O, to date, has awarded millions of dollars in loans, scholarships and grants.

    Award, loan and grant recipients do not need to be members of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Recipients are typically sponsored by local P.E.O. chapters. The only exception to this is the International Peace Scholarship.

    Cottey College was initially founded in 1884 as an institution where young women would be able to fulfill their dreams. Ownership of Cottey College was given to the P.E.O. Sisterhood in 1927. Today, Cottey College remains the only nonsectarian college in the nation that is completely owned and operated by women. Cottey College offers both two-year and four-year programs.

    The Star scholarship for women is just one of several programs operated by P.E.O. Originally established in 2009, this P.E.O. scholarship provides for a $2,500 award to seniors in high school with goals of pursuing a college education.

    P.E.O. Scholar Awards were established in 1991 as a way of providing substantial awards for women throughout the United States and Canada who are working toward a doctoral degree or who are pursuing postdoctoral research. Applicants for this award must be sponsored by a local P.E.O. chapter. The number of awards granted each year is determined based on funding available. Applications become available in August and are accepted through November 20th.

    The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education was originally established in 1973 as a way of offering need-based grants to women throughout Canada and the United States. Applicants for these women’s grants have typically had their education interrupted and who are now returning to school as a way of supporting themselves and their families. Candidates applying for this program must demonstrate a financial need. The maximum grant for this program is $3,000. Grants of lesser amounts may also be available based on available funding and individual needs. This is a one-time only grant. Grant funds may be used for expenses such as tuition, fees, transportation, books and childcare.

    The P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund was established in 1907 in an effort to offer loans to qualified women with goals of pursuing a higher education and who also needed financial assistance in completing their goals. Applicants for the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund must be nominated by a local P.E.O. Sisterhood chapter. All candidates must also be within two years of completing their individual course of study. Currently, the maximum loan amount is $10,000 at a 3% interest rate. Loans are expected to be repaid within six dates of the issuance date. Interest will begin accruing on the loans only after the recipient’s graduation date.

    The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship was established in 1949 to offer scholarship funds to women from countries other than Canada and the United States. The maximum award amount through this women scholarship program is $10,000. P.E.O. scholarships of lesser amounts may also be available based on individual needs. Applications become available between August and December 15th. All applications must be submitted by no later than January 31st.

    Unlike many scholarships, the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship for minorities is meant to assist award recipients not only with financial assistance in completing their education, but also guidance in the entire higher education process. The goal of the program is to mold students into dynamic future leaders with a strong dedication to humanitarian ideals and public service. This Jackie Robinson scholarship is awarded annual to high school graduates with plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

    Since the JRF scholarship program first began, it has continued to attract the support of numerous private individuals as well as philanthropic organizations and companies. As a result, the program has been able to assist a larger number of students by providing them with the help and guidance they need in attending college.

    The program is named in honor of Jackie Robinson, the first black baseball player to break the color barrier that had segregated Major League Baseball for more than half a century. Robinson was born to a family of sharecroppers in Georgia in 1919. One of five children, Robins was primarily raised by a single mother. From an early age, Robinson demonstrated significant athletic ability and became the first athlete at UCLA to win varsity letters in four different sports; basketball, baseball, track and football. By 1941, Robinson had been named to the All-American football team. Unfortunately, he had to leave college due to financial problems and later decided to enlist in the army. Within a two-year time period, Robinson made his way up to the rank of second lieutenant.

    After leaving the Army with an honorable discharge, Robinson played for a brief stint in the Negro Baseball League and traveled throughout the Midwest. He was approached by the president of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 about joining the team. At the time there were no African-Americans in the Major Leagues. By the end of Robinson’s rookie season with the Dodgers he had accumulated the title of National League Rookie of the Year, with an astounding 29 steals, 12 homers and a .297 average. He was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Year in 1949 and later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Today, Robinson is still remembered for breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

    The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship offers a financial grant for up to four years amounting to $7,500 annually for students to attend a 4-year university or college of their choice. This JRF scholarship for minority students is meant to compliment financial aid assistance the student may also receive. In addition, program scholars are also provided with assistance in attending a four-day mentoring and leadership conference held each year in New York City.

    While financial assistance is a strong component of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship program, it also provides for mentoring as well. Mentors are composed of JRF Alumni, community leaders, corporate sponsors and advisory committee members. Each JRF scholar is assigned a mentor who will assist them in enriching their developmental. Mentors may assist with a host of needs including career planning, academic guidance and internship placement.

    Corporate partners have also agreed to provide program scholars with permanent employment, internship placement and opportunities for valuable career development. Upon graduation, scholars may also benefit from the ability to obtain full-time positions through the ongoing assistance and career counseling provided by JRF mentors and corporate sponsors.

    The Jackie Robinson Scholarship program also sponsors and promotes the Rachel Robinson International Fellowship. This fellowship was established in order to promote and support international opportunities for scholars of the program. Fellows for this program will be chosen on the basis of academic excellence, commitment to community, leadership potential and national development. This fellowship can be used for a variety of initiatives, including philanthropic efforts, volunteers initiatives, financial support for study abroad programs, etc.

    New Century Scholars Scholarship

    These Phi Theta Kappa scholarships award a total of 52 stipends that are each worth $2,000. A total of $104,000 is awarded.     The tweets that will be evaluated have to do with the First Amendment and how students view the future of it. This program recognizes Alaskan, Native American or Hawaiian students with a desire in pursuing technology, math, the sciences or business. The scholarship award is $10,000. Applicants must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the AFS-USA Ford PAS scholarship program.

    Ford Motor Company Tribal Scholarship

    The Ford Company Tribal Scholarship program provides a maximum of $5,000 to financially needy Native American students who are planning to pursue a degree in technology, math, sciences or teaching. This scholarship is a one-time award and is strictly limited to $5,000. Students must be a full-time student, United States citizen and have good academic standing in order to qualify for the Ford Company Tribal Scholarship program. The award may be given to one or more students. The deadline for applying for the Tribal Scholarship program is May 31st.

    The HSF/Ford Motor Company Scholarship Program

    The HSF/Ford Motor Company scholarship program provides awards to Hispanic students worth $2,500. All applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is enrolling in a four-year degree program within the United States. The HSF/Ford Motor Company scholarship program is specifically designed to help graduating high school seniors who have a Hispanic heritage. The Ford scholarships are awarded on a national basis to students who wish to obtain a bachelor’s degree. The award is a one-time only scholarship and is limited to $2,500. To be eligible for this scholarship sponsored by Ford Motor applicants must have good academic standing and must also be a full-time student as well as a legal permanent resident or United States citizen. The deadline for this scholarship is March 15th.

    Hispanic College Fund/Ford Mi Fuerza Scholarship

    The Hispanic College Fund/Ford Mi Fuerza Scholarship program awards scholarships between $500 and $5,000. These Ford Motor company scholarships are based on financial need as well as merit. One or more scholarships may be awarded on an annual basis.

    Ford Blue Oval Scholars Program

    Ford Motor Company scholarships also include the Ford Blue Oval Scholars Program. This program is web-based initiative that is operated on a national level and offers scholarship winners the chance to share information, network, learn about jobs and internships and plan as well as implement community service initiatives while also access information regarding careers at Ford Motor Company.

    Ford Motor Company/EEOC Scholarship

    Ford Motor Company also sponsors the Ford Motor Company EEOC Scholarship. This Ford scholarship is specifically intended for women or minorities with a connection to Ford Motor Company. This connection may be as an employee, the spouse of an employee or the child of an employee. All applicants must be a resident of Kentucky and must be pursuing an undergraduate degree. The deadline to apply is April 15th. These Ford Motor scholarships are offered through the University of Louisville.
