Applicants are not required to excel in golf as a requirement of this womens scholarship, although they should be involved with golf. The female scholarship award is renewable annually for a period of up to four years. The award amount is $2,000. Applications should be sent in by March 1st.

    Laurels Fund Women Scholarships

    The Laurels Fund awards an accounting scholarship for women who are pursuing an advanced degree in the field of accounting. To qualify for the female scholarship, applicants must have completed a comprehensive exam before beginning their prior fall semester. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need. The women scholarship was originally established in 1978. The award amount is $5,000. Applications must be submitted by no later than May 30th.

    Delta Gamma Foundation Scholarships for Women

    The Delta Gamma Foundation offers members of their sorority who are in pursuit of undergraduate degrees women’s scholarships. Awards are based on leadership abilities, academic excellence and community involvement. When you apply for this all female scholarship, you also become eligible to receive any other Delta Gamma Foundation scholarship. The award amount is $1,000. Applications must be submitted by January 15th. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must also have completed three semesters or four quarters of college.

    Opportunity Scholarships for Lutheran Laywomen Scholarships

    The Opportunity Scholarships for Lutheran Laywomen scholarships awards four different girl scholarships for Lutheran women who are pursuing a career that is not in the ordained ministry. Applicants must have a church membership and must also have experienced some type of interruption within their education for at least two years. These female scholarships specifically target women who are studying abroad and women of color. The award amount varies. Applications should be submitted by February 15th. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age to qualify for the Opportunity Scholarships for Lutheran Laywomen scholarship.

    Women in Need Scholarship for Women

    The Women in Need Scholarship is an accounting scholarship offered by the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting. This scholarship program targets women who are the main financial source of support for their families. The award is $2,000 per year. Applications must be submitted by no later than April 30th. All applicants must be incoming, current or re-entering juniors who are in pursuit of an accounting degree. The full award amount may be granted for a period of up to two years and can total $4,000.

    Women’s Independence Scholarship Program

    The Women’s Independence Scholarship Program is available to women who have experienced some type of partner domestic abuse. The goal of the program is to assist women with the opportunity to gain secure employment as well as personal independence. Applications are accepted for this female scholarship program on an ongoing basis. This program was originally established in 1999 and primarily targets undergraduate students. Applicants must have been separated from their abuser for a minimum of one year. In addition, applicants should have sought consistent support and counseling. They must also demonstrate financial need to qualify for this all girl scholarship.

    New Horizons Scholarship for Women

    Women’s scholarships also include the New Horizons Scholarship. This is a scholarship for female members of Royal Neighbors of America. Since this organization was started in 1961 it has awarded more than $3 million in scholarship awards. The organization also offers scholarships for female high school students. The award amount is up to $5,000. Applications should be submitted by no later than April 1st. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and also must have a high school diploma.

    There are many more women scholarships but these are just a few of the higher profile ones. There are female scholarships in any field you want to study in, so a little searching will find that for you. Look for the multiple awards given out annually by scholarship sponsors because this will increase your chances of winning the next time you apply.

    Adult women who return to school are called Adult Students or Non Traditional Students. There are numerous adult scholarships for women over 50 of this type available, and believe it or not, the competition for these scholarships for older women won’t be as stiff as it was when you were twenty. It is important that you look for adult women scholarships that are specifically for women, and that you apply for those that are designed for women over the age of thirty, forty, or fifty, since all three could apply to you.

    One such award is the AARP Foundation Women’s Scholarship, which is for women over the age of 40. These are also scholarships for women over 50 who are attending an accredited school or technical program, who will be entering the program within six months of making the application for the award. This award is made based on financial need.

    Talbots also has a scholarship program for women, worth $10,000. Six of these awards are made annually, with an additional 60 scholarships worth $1000 awarded annually. While this Talbot scholarship is not specifically for women over the age of 50, it is intended specifically for women who hope to obtain their degree ‘later in life.’

    If you are a low-income woman who will be pursuing a technical or vocational degree or certificate, an associate’s degree, or your very first bachelor’s degree, and you are over the age of 35, you should apply for the Jeannette Rankin Scholarship for women. This award is made based on your goals, the challenges you have faced, and your financial need. The amount of the scholarships are not made public. These make great scholarships for women over 50.

    If you are returning to school to receive a graduate degree, you should check into the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarship. This scholarship awards $11,000, and you must be over the age of 25, and planning to attend a graduate program in the United States or Canada. Additionally, you must have documented proof that you have worked in some capacity to serve women or children in your home country, and be willing to perform two years of this type of service in your home country upon your graduation.

    College scholarships for older women are available through many sources. There is the Talbots Women’s Scholarship Fund. This women scholarship is targeted towards older women that have been out of school for more than ten years. The criteria are they must be enrolled, or planning to enroll in a technical or university school. These older women scholarships has five top winners, which will receive $10,000 a year. There will be 50 more chosen that will receive $1,000 a year.

    Another scholarship for older women returning to college comes from the AARP Scholarships Foundation. They want to extend these scholarships to older women over 40. It is their goal to give women a chance to go back to school and fulfill their dreams of getting an education and starting a career. They award 100 scholarships ranging from $500 to $5000.

    The Jeannette Rankin Womens Scholarship Fund is another great place for scholarships for older women. The Jeannette Rankin foundation has a vision. This vision is to break the cycle of poverty in women that are 35 years or older and that are in the low-income bracket. The JRF has been giving out about 500 scholarships a year to qualified women. The requirements are that women must be 35 or older. They must be low-income. In addition, they must be a United Stated citizen. The applicant must be enrolled in, or accepted in an ACICS accredited school. These applicants can be looking to gain a vocational or technical degree, an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree. They will also consider things like what your goals are, the challenges that you have faced thus far and your financial situation.

    The Jeannette Rankin Scholarship is set up as to not discriminate against color, race, creed, sexual orientation or disabilities. The JRF older women scholarships application for 2010 have already passed but there will be information posted for 2011 by November 1st.

    It is possible for older women to get the education that she has always wanted. It is possible for women who are 35 or older and living at a poverty level to pursue a rewarding career. There are older women scholarships like these listed that can make her dream come true. They will give older women the information to get on the right track and get the education that they deserve.

    If you are a woman looking for women scholarships you may find that the National Women’s Studies Association Scholarships (NWSA) and their book award prizes can help to cover some of the costs of your education. The National Women’s Studies Association, or NWSA, was founded in 1977 in an effort to progress the efforts of professionals in the field of Women’s Studies. While the organization was founded primarily for women, the members serve to eliminate discrimination and oppression for any group of people or individual who is being subjected in any way to such discrimination or oppression.

    NWSA Scholarships for Women

    The NWSA offers three programs of women scholarships and one conference registration scholarship/Travel grant program. Let’s take a closer look at all of them below.

    NWSA Graduate Scholarship of $1,000 – awarded to a student who is in the research or writing stages of their Master’s Thesis or Ph.D. dissertation in the interdisciplinary field of women’s studies. It must be about women and it must promote the NWSA mission statement.

    Lesbian Caucus Scholarship of $500.00 – given to that student who best echoes the mission and objectives of the NWSA and the Lesbian Caucus.

    NWSA Women of Color Caucus Awards – $500.00 for each category of graduate students only. Categories are: African Native American/American Indian/Alaskan Native descent – Latina descent – African descent – Asian/Asian-American/Pacific-Islander/ Arab/Middle East Asian descent

    *May 1st is the deadlines for all of the above NWSA scholarships for women.

    NWSA Conference Registration Scholarship and Travel Grant – 100 awards given only to graduate & doctoral students preferably with a demonstrated financial need and students who have not won this award previously and someone who exemplifies and supports the NWSA mission. June 1st is the application deadline.

    NWSA Book Prizes

    The NWSA has two book prize awards. The first is the National Women’s Studies Association Sara Whaley Book Prize. Each year, two $2000 awards are made, but the awards are based on books. Specifically, awards are made to the author’s of books that concern women and labor. To be eligible for this award, you must have a book that was published within the previous year.

    Of the two awards, one is given to a senior scholar who must have two books in publication. The other is awarded to a junior scholar who is on the verge of publishing. This award is usually given to women of color within the United States, or women of color of International origins. The deadline for applying for this scholarship is in early May of each year.

    The second book prize or women’s scholarship offered is the National Women’s Studies Association Gloria E. Anzaldua Book Prize. The guidelines are essentially the same for both awards, in that the selection is based on merit, and you must have a book based on women’s studies that is published. The award for the NWSA Gloria E. Anzaldua Book Prize is a $1000 and lifetime membership in the NWSA. The deadline for this program is also early May of each year.

    When you apply, you must submit your application, along with five copies of your book. Despite the fact that you are sending copies of your book, you must also supply the selection committee with information that includes the title of your book, the ISBN number, the year the book was published, a single page CV, and a 50 to 100 word abstract of the book.

    It is important to realize that these scholarships for women are not limited to women who are members of the LGBT community at all, but that they are possibilities for women who belong to that community, especially if they are African-American, or have an International Heritage. It is also important to understand that while these awards can be used to help pay for school, this is in no way required. These programs are ideal for graduate students who are working towards a career in women’s studies.
