  • Discover Card Scholarships for Unique Students

    Discover Card Scholarship
    Discover Card Scholarship

The Discover Card Scholarship is for the student who is thinking ahead in paying for his/her college tuition. Scholarships are designed to meet many needs and in some cases fill particular niches. One of the most important things to do when looking for college funding is to start early, especially in high school, to try and find unique scholarship programs. As is the case with the Discover Card Scholarships Program, if you wait until the last minute to find funding for school, you may quickly realize that you have missed the boat.

    [ad]

Looking at the scholarship by Discover Card in 9th grade, for example, it would be easy to set your goals early, understanding that over the course of the next two years you will want to build your grade point average up above a 2.75 while also getting involved in community oriented projects. Because so little information is available on the Discover Scholarship Program homepage, you would also need to take some time to do some digging in order to get a better handle on who has won and why.

Getting access to scholarships is not simply as easy as happening upon them randomly and then hoping that you meet the criteria. While it’s always possible that you may have randomly fallen into what they are looking for, your best bet is always to plan carefully.

In 2011, the company which brings us the Discover Card is providing a scholarship for high school juniors towards their college education, the maximum award being $25,000. Apart from the specifics on a minimum required GPA, it can be difficult to understand what exactly they mean by clubs or community groups. Taking a look at previous winners of the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship will help you build up on the particulars.

Consider the case of Natasha Mathurin, a 2010 winner of the Discover Scholarship. In her biography as provided by the Discover program, it becomes quickly clear that Natasha was not simply a member of a school group or that she did the bare minimum required of her person. Ms. Mathurin was involved in leadership roles, brought in new members, was active in volunteering in public activities and, despite a learning disability she was diagnosed with earlier in life, has struggled hard to achieve everything she has accomplished.

Moving from Natasha and considering Juan Acosta, another 2010 Discover College Scholarship winner, we see yet another example of a student involved in leadership roles while overcoming obstacles in his life. As a legal immigrant to the country at a young age, Mr. Acosta had to learn English while also overcoming a cataract on his left eye. Despite these troubles, he learned English and eventually was accepted into his school’s gifted program, along the way taking up leadership roles in school clubs and volunteering at a local rehab center.

In each of the above cases, commonality becomes a direction, showing young applicants what others are capable of and suggesting to them a positive direction for their own future. The Discover Card Scholarships are available to students who have encountered obstacles in their lives and overcome them, while at the same time rising up to meet new challenges of their own. The earlier a student starts along this path, the better their chances of getting this nationally offered unique scholarship, and for a maximum potential payout of $25,000, it is important to start thinking about their future as soon as they can. The 2011 deadline for the Discover Card Scholarship Program is January 31.

    [ad]

If you are a student planning on applying for this unique scholarship program later in your high school career, keep your eyes on the website and watch the future winners for ideas of what you can do to increase your chances of winning. Step up into leadership positions, and realize that obstacles are rarely insurmountable. Such challenges are normal in life, and in this case may help you achieve funding for your future college education through the Discover Card Scholarships.

When you are searching for unusual scholarships, you may see ACE Scholarships, and make the mistake of thinking that you’ve already applied, when in fact; there is more than one unique ACE Scholarship.

First there is the Alliance for Choice in Education. Based in Denver, Colorado, this organization offers an ACE scholarship program that is specifically for students in grades between Kindergarten and the twelfth grade. It exists for the purposes of helping families to pay for tuition at private schools, but is only available to those families that qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program. The program only pays up to $2000 annually for the lower grades and up to $3000 annually for students in grades nine through twelve.

In order to be eligible for this particular ACE Scholarship, you must reside in Colorado, and attend a school in Colorado. Once these unique scholarships are awarded; it is renewed each year for up to four years, as long as you remain eligible. You must have a good academic standing in order to remain eligible and you must remain in a private school in Colorado, although you do have the freedom to change schools, as long as the new school is still a private school, and still in the state. Note that the award amount for this unusual scholarship is only meant to pay for approximately 50% of the tuition, which means that if the tuition is low, the award amount could be lower, as it will not exceed 50% of the cost of the tuition. You can learn more about the Alliance for Choice in Education Scholarship details and apply by going to ACE Scholarships.

Another of the ACE Scholarships that you should be aware of is the unusual college scholarships offered by the Ace Communications Group and Ace Link Telecommunications. This ACE scholarship is only available to high school seniors who have telephone service provided through Ace Link Telecommunications in their homes. Fifteen ACES scholarships are awarded each year, and they are non-renewable.

The award amount of each one of these ACE scholarships is $1000. Ace Link Telecommunications is available in Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota. Aside from this unique eligibility rule, you must also be a graduating high school senior, and be enrolled or accepted to a college or university. If you or an immediate family member is an employee of Ace, you are not eligible.

Another unique thing about this particular scholarship is that although you must be a high school senior to apply, the award is actually not paid until you are starting your second year of college. It is paid during the first semester of the second year, and it will not be paid, regardless of winning it, if you have not maintained at least a 2.5GPA during your first year. In order for the award to be paid, winners must submit their college transcript reflecting that they have maintained an acceptable GPA, and they must also prove that they have registered in college for the second year of study. Learn more and apply at ACE scholarship.

There is one more unusual scholarship that you will run into when searching for ACE Scholarships. This is the Access College Early Scholarship Program. These unique scholarships for low income students is made possible by the Nebraska Access College Early Scholarship Program Act of 2007. This unusual scholarship will pay the college tuition and mandatory fees for low-income students who want to take dual college classes while they are still in high school. It will also be awarded to those low-income students who have early enrollment agreements with a college. The student must either be eligible for other programs designed for low-income families, or the student’s family must have had a recent hardship that would make the student eligible for this ACE scholarship.

Dual enrollment means that the student is still in high school, but they are also enrolled in college courses. The college courses may be conducted at the high school, or at the college, but they typically take place during the regular school day, and most students in dual programs usually just take a couple of college courses, along with their regular high school courses. The student must have room in their schedule for these courses, in terms of credits needed to graduate from high school, because high school credits are not given for the college courses. Learn more about the Access College Early Scholarship Program and apply to these unusual scholarships at ACE Scholarships.

When you are looking for ACE Scholarships read the information carefully to ensure that you are applying for the ACE scholarship that you meant to apply for – and that you are applying for the scholarship that relates to your specific circumstances or situation, with the knowledge that there are several unique and unusual ACE Scholarships available. • Weird Unknown Left Handed Scholarships Grants

There is weird unknown left handed scholarships being offerred by Juniata College located in Pennsylvania and it’s being sponsored by the Mary Francis Beckley Scholarship Foundation. There are thousands of unique and unusual minority scholarships available to qualified students each year. Many are offered based on a student’s ethnic background or other personal attributes. One characteristic that many people may not even realize puts them in a minority, though, is their status as a left-handed person.

You probably weren’t aware that left handed people are a minority. In fact, only ten percent of the entire population is left handed! One college in Pennsylvania, however, both recognizes and celebrates this individual diversity. Each year, Juniata College awards up to $1,500 in academic scholarships each year to students who experience some type of handicap as a result of being left-handed.

These scholarships for left handers are funded by the Mary Francis Beckley Scholarship Foundation. This weird scholarship just for being left handed was founded in 1979. Since that time, at least 40 students have been awarded scholarships from this fund. Left handed scholarship students are identified by a question on the data form that each college freshman completes.  Woman don’t have to worry either because Juniata has scholarships for left handed females too!

Those students who have excellent academic records are chosen as left handed college scholarship recipients. Any left-handed sophomore, junior, or senior student attending Juniata College is considered for this left handed award. Only students attending this college, however, are eligible for this weird unknown scholarship opportunity.

This college offers a wide variety of programs, including Programs of Emphasis, or Majors, in accounting, biology, communication, education, politics, and language. Each student attending this college has a unique opportunity to win one of several merit unknown scholarships. The amount of these awards, in many cases, ranges from $8,000 to full tuition scholarships.

Although many scholarships for left handed people websites frequently mention left handed scholarships, the award offered at Juniata College is the only one designed specifically for left handed students. This is somewhat weird, considering that one in ten persons are left-handed, but apparently, many left handed philanthropists choose to donate unknown scholarship monies to other funds or organizations rather than funding college tuition for other persons who are left handed.

Unless you are considering attending Juniata College, though, start looking for other ways to fund your college education. You aren’t going to win a left handed college scholarship just for being left handed unless you just happen to decide to go to college in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. And, although Juniata College offers a sound education with an excellent graduation rate, the small size of the college is a big indicator that not all left handed persons are going to be able to attend college here.

If you are planning to go to school here, though, and you do happen to be left-handed, it might not hurt to at least ask about their left handed scholarships when you are filling out the data form. Unless you’re willing to look out for unusual and weird scholarship opportunities to finance your education, you may not see them even when they come your way.

Keep your eyes open so you don’t miss out on a great opportunity to win your share of weird unknown scholarship college education money each year. Good luck, and keep looking for little known creative ways to finance your college education!

  • Unique Kohls Scholarship Program Cares for Kids

Most college scholarships are primarily for high school or college students. Kohls Corporation really cares for kids, because they have opted to take an unique Kohls scholarship approach to recognize young people who are active in their communities. Through the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program, 2,100 youths aged six to eighteen have a unique opportunity to receive recognition for their community involvement and contributions.

This Kohl’s store scholarship was organized by a corporation that understands that children of all ages are essential members of their communities and have a unique part to play in the lives of those around them. The corporation has taken steps to ensure that every child has a unique opportunity to win college scholarship money. For this reason, students from each of two age groups are chosen for these awards. One group consists of children aged six to twelve. The second group consists of children aged 12 to 18. One student from each group is chosen at each Kohl’s store located throughout the United States to be a recipient of this unique reward.
This Kohls scholarship program, funded by Kohl’s Corporation, has been in operation for eight years, and has awarded over $200,000 annually to students who make a vital contribution to their communities. The Kohl scholarship program accepts applications during the autumn of each year. Adults may nominate students online at Kohl’s corporate website until March 15th each year.
Of all the students who complete a Kohls scholarship application and are nominated, two students from each store throughout the nation are selected to receive a $50 gift card to the store. Of these winners, 170 young people will receive regional undergraduate scholarships. Ten of these regional winners will become national Kohls college scholarship winners.
In addition to winning a free scholarship for college, national winners will have the opportunity to select a charity of their choice. Kohl’s Corporation will then donate $1,000 to each of these charities. Students who are national scholarship award winners will be notified of their achievement in July of each year.
In previous years, the company has recognized students who became involved in their communities in a wide variety of ways. Some students were responsible for organizing efforts to assist in hurricane relief. Others have demonstrated community concern by riding their bicycles for charity efforts. A few students even took the initiative and planted and cared for an urban garden.
These Kohl scholarships grants are unusual because, unlike most academic scholarships, the student’s grade point average does not play a primary factor in the selection of the scholarship recipient. Instead, the student’s ability to focus on the needs of others and make the world a better place is of greater importance.

If you know a student whose idea contributed significantly to a neighborhood or community project, or who has a strong interest in making the world a better place for others, nominating him or her for this university Kohls scholarship grant may be the perfect opportunity to express your approval and respect. Don’t let this unusual scholarship opportunity to recognize someone for caring go to waste because – spread the word today that Kohls cares for kids!

  • Unknown and Unclaimed Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship Grant

It’s a beautiful day to be awarded an unknown and potentially unclaimed Fred Rogers Memorial scholarship Grant. Most adults remember the kindly older man changing his shoes and singing “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” This song, played daily on television from 1967 to 2001, was one of his legacies that most of us will remember for the rest of our lives. In fact, he had such an impact on the world of television that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation has taken the unusual step of offering a study scholarship in his honor.

This scholarship, known as the Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship, is offered to three students each academic year. All Fred Rogers scholarship awards are $10,000 each, and are designated for students who are undergraduate juniors or seniors, or are enrolled in graduate school. In addition to winning the Rogers scholarship, students will be mentored by an Academy professional who specializes in children’s television programming.

Mentors from the Los Angeles or New York Academy will be chosen for each student. Typically, a mentor is assigned based on his/her geographical proximity to the student receiving the award. The student and mentor will meet personally, and communicate through telephone and email regularly.

The goal of this award is to remember and honor the memory of Mr. Fred Rogers. In addition, the Academy hopes to help qualified students begin a career in children’s media, and to promote those values and principles which were demonstrated by Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Ernst and Young, LLP, are funding this generous scholarship for students.

To apply for this college essay scholarship, an interested student may print out and submit a Fred Rogers scholarship application to the Academy. Students who are awarded this Rogers award must demonstrate a commitment to early childhood education, development, or psychology. They must be pursuing careers in film, television or animation. Successful applicants will desire ultimately to work in career fields related to children’s media.

Additionally, students who come from rural or inner city households will be given higher preference. Students are required to write an essay of up to two pages addressing how they meet the stated Fred Roger scholarship requirements. In addition, they must describe a plan for using the scholarship to help them develop their education in one of three major areas. These areas include research regarding children’s media and personal growth; development of creative concepts in children’s programming; or a professional internship for personal educational growth.

In order to win the Fred Rogers grant for students, two recommendations from faculty or children’s media must be included with the Rogers scholarship application. The Academy will be responsible for reviewing the applications and determining who will receive scholarship awards. If no one is qualified to receive the award in a particular year, the Fred Rogers Memorial scholarship will not be awarded. It would be too bad if it became an unclaimed scholarship.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in children’s television programming or film media, don’t let this unknown unusual scholarship opportunity go unclaimed to lessen your college expense. Honor the memory of Mr. Rogers and the Land of Make-Believe. Start teaching children how to be a good neighbor with a real-life Fred Rogers college scholarship that will make paying for your college education much easier.

  • The Unusual MOST Memphis Scholarships Grants

The unusual Memphis scholarships grants now offer eligible students funds for private education at either the elementary or secondary level. If your tired of the increasing illiteracy rates and decrease in the number of high school graduates, the officials of Memphis, Tennessee, are turning to a new way to offer educational incentives to excel in school.

This Memphis scholarship fund, known as the Memphis Opportunity Scholarship Trust, or MOST, is designed to help students make the most of their educational future. Through these Memphis scholarship grants, students receive tuition money to help defray the cost of private school educations. The Memphis opportunity scholarship are awarded without regard to race, gender, religion, or academic achievement.

The Memphis scholarship program was begun in 1998 by a group of private businessmen to provide scholarships for the disabled. Since that time, the fund has assisted more than 2,000 children to gain access to educational opportunities otherwise closed to them. This fund is matched, in part, by the Children’s Scholarship Fund, a nationwide organization dedicated to making tuition assistance money available to students throughout the United States.

How effective is this program? Most children who attend private schools under these Memphis scholarships regularly exceed the academic scores of their peers on standardized tests. Furthermore, both the parents and students reported greatly increased satisfaction with the education the children received as a result of these Memphis scholarship opportunities.

Currently, Memphis Opportunity Scholarship Trust applications are being accepted only for students in pre-K through grade 1. Older students may be considered for Memphis scholarship assistance only if they have some type of documented disability, and will be attending a school that specializes in assisting children with this disability.

More than 70 private and charter schools in the area cooperate with the Memphis Scholarship Fund to offer recipients this unique chance to overcome the obstacles presented through substandard public school education. Although the Memphis scholorship does cover up to three-fourths of the cost of these institutions, parents are required to pay the remainder of the cost out of pocket, which can still present a hardship for some.

Students who qualify for the Memphis scholarships may continue to receive the awards through their eighth grade of education. They may do so provided that their family continues to meet criteria for financial need. In addition, the family must pay the remaining tuition to the school without defaulting on the expense. On average, MOST scholarships cover approximately one-fourth of the cost of the tuition at a private university.

For those students who excel academically, high school MOST scholarships are also available. These scholarships, which help to defray the cost of tuition, are awarded on a competitive basis. Students who receive these Memphis Opportunity Scholarship Trust scholarships may receive up to $2,150 to help with private school tuition.

MOST Memphis scholarships offer young people an unusual chance to succeed and improve their educational prospects. Although this requires a significant commitment of time and money from the parents, most of those who enroll under the MOST scholarship program believe the financial sacrifice is worthwhile; the added benefits offered by a private school that excels academically will last for a lifetime.
