    Harvard-minority-scholarships
    Harvard Minority Scholarships

Harvard University has scholarships for minority students looking to attend this infamous college. Ever since its inception, Harvard University has been one of the most prestigious and popular Universities in the United States. Each year, the University is ranked number one or near the top of every major college ranking system. For years, it has been tradition for only the smartest and richest prospective students to attend Harvard, and as a result most of these students have been white males.

Recently, there has been a push to ensure more minorities get to experience Harvard University and all it has to offer. There are now many ways to ensure minorities attend Harvard and ensure they can pay for the relatively high tuition. There are many nice scholarships aimed at minority students who are planning on attending Harvard.

Whether you’re planning on attending Harvard or any college for that matter, your number one worry probably isn’t registering for classes, or what dorm you’ll live in, but rather how you’ll pay for college. There are many options available, but most of them will be hard to obtain and cost money themselves. Common methods include obtaining money from parents, taking out student loans, receiving financial aid, and winning scholarships and grants.

Traditionally, it has been difficult for minorities to obtain student scholarships from Harvard University because they generally weren’t well qualified enough to be awarded them and there was a degree of racism which left out many students from receiving the Harvard scholarships which make paying for college much easier. There are some nice scholarships available for minorities who wish to attend Harvard University. Below you will find a select few that are worth mentioning.

ALLEN D. AND MARION L. RUBIN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This is a minority scholarship that is available to students who adhere to or practice the Jewish faith. This Harvard minority scholarship was established in 1981 and falls under the restricted category of scholarships. Any Jewish students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, aspirations for the future, and exceptional academic prowess are eligible for this Harvard  scholarship for minority Jewish students. To sign up, simply visit the career center at Harvard and ask about the Allen D. Rubin Scholarship fund.

    WILLIAM JONES FUNDS
This Harvard University minority scholarship is focused on helping Native American students who wish to attend Harvard. This scholarship is worth full tuition for one year for one Harvard student. This fund honors William Jones and William Stoughton, who was a Harvard graduate and former lieutenant governor of Massachusetts. Stoughton was a very rich man and upon his death in 1701, devoted much of his fortune for endowment at Harvard. For more information on this scholarship, and to find due dates, visit the financial aid department at Harvard and ask about the William Jones Scholarship Fund.

    AYALA SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This minority scholarship from Harvard University is intended to provide full tuition for a few students who are planning on attending Harvard and are of Philippine descent. This scholarship fund was established in 1996 and has been helping deserving students since that time. First preference is given to students of Philippine heritage, while second preference is given to other Asian nationals. Preference is also given to students of any race who choose to study Asian history or languages and major in this subject.

    ARTHUR DANIEL STILLMAN FUND
This fund was established in 1969 and provides Harvard University scholarships for minority students who have heritage linking back to Southeast Asia. Top preference is given to students who come from the Southeast Asia area, while second preference is given to students who are planning on studying Asian history or language. For more information on this scholarship, visit the financial aid center at Harvard and ask about the Arthur Daniel Stillman Fund.

NEED BASED HARVARD SCHOLARSHIPS for Minorities
This may be Harvard most powerful minority scholarship but it’s for families with household incomes of under $60,000. You can attend Harvard without any payment for your tuition. If incomes are from $60,000 to $80,000 then tuition is reduced dramatically making going to college here comparable to many junior colleges. Harvard scholarships for minorities can’t really get any better than this.

FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is composed entirely of individual endowment funds received by the university from donors and previous alumni. Every donation over $1500 goes towards this scholarship and it is available for all students, but targets minorities heavily. This scholarship was established over 370 years ago and has been helping students pay for tuition ever since.

    HARVARD NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in honor of Harvard’s 300th anniversary. It was originally established during the 1930’s during the Great Depression, and now is aimed mainly at minorities and other students of low-income families. Each year, this scholarship hands out millions of dollars in scholarship funds to students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend Harvard.

    CONCLUSION
For many students, paying for college at Harvard University can seem like a daunting task, but with the help of scholarships for minority students, it doesn’t have to be. Minority students now have a chance to earn scholarships from Harvard that were once reserved only for white students. This enables them to attend college and gain the skills necessary to succeed in life at one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, once restricted from attending.

  • Disability Grants and Scholarships Make College Easy

Life becomes so much more complex when you suffer from a disability, but paying for college is easy with disability grants and scholarships. While most people don’t realize that there are thousands of dollars available in the form of scholarships for the disabled, these programs do exist and they help thousands of disabled people pay for college each year. It may be difficult to find these programs at times, but a little research will net you with numerous different leads for disability scholarships and grants.

Generally, college students with disabilities must borrow money from various sources in order to cover all of the costs associated with attending college. This might include disability grants from both the federal government as well as private sources. While the federal government does provide money solely for those with some sort of physical or mental disability, which is estimated to be about forty million Americans, private organizations are where most of the scholarships for people with disabilities  come from.

    How do these Programs Work?

Disability grants do not work the same way that many traditional programs work. The main difference between able-bodied and disability programs is the added challenge of simply attending classes that a disabled person may face. To this end, a person with disabilities can apply and qualify for traditional, tuition covering monies, as well as money that has been earmarked to the schools in order to make them more accessible to the disabled students who attend.

Many people may wonder why this is important, and many other may feel that it is the job of the school to make these accessibility upgrades. The sheer reality of these situations is that there are so many different disabilities and the overall student populations containing these minorities are low. In order to solicit and gain these people as students, schools need to be able to make these improvements on the fly as these students present themselves. Making this money available as a scholarship for disabled students also allows the student to be in on the design and decision-making, creating a niche relationship where the student is able to thrive at that particular institution.

What Kind of Programs are Out There?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of different scholarships for people with disabilitiesavailable to those who suffer from some form of mental or physical disability today. Usually they are grouped according to what the disability is. For example, the National Federation for the Blind, and the Jewish Guild for the Blind both offer programs for students who suffer from some form of blindness. The same is true for many other disabilities such as deafness, paralysis, or learning disabilities.

Many institutions have grant monies set aside strictly for disabled students as well. One such program is the P Buckley Moss Society disability scholarships. The P Buckley Moss Society has three disability scholarships grants worth up to $1,500 which  are easy to get, if you fall into their disability scholarship grant criteria. Most schools have a special resource center that operates solely to serve disabled students. These resource centers within the schools are usually in charge of the money that the school has set aside for people with disabilities. They also have specialists who can help students find the money that is available to them. The best way to get started on this path is to contact the schools that you are interested in and ask to speak with the disability resource center.

The other disability grant scholarship programs that are available to those who have some sort of disability are found within specialized schools who only take students that are disabled. An example of one of these schools can be seen in the Gallaudet University, which is a college strictly for those with hearing impairments.

    You can do it Too!

It will not be a simple task to find college scholarships for students with disabilities for your college education, especially if you suffer from some form of disability. This does not mean that it is something that you will not be able to do. The first step is to contact the schools that you are interested in as they will be able to point you in the right direction. These disability resource centers often have lists of disability grants and scholarships that you may qualify for. No matter what disability you have, the fact is that paying for college is easy, with free money for your schooling, in the form of disability grants and scholarships.

  • Discover Card Scholarships for Unique Students

    Discover Card Scholarship
    Discover Card Scholarship

The Discover Card Scholarship is for the student who is thinking ahead in paying for his/her college tuition. Scholarships are designed to meet many needs and in some cases fill particular niches. One of the most important things to do when looking for college funding is to start early, especially in high school, to try and find unique scholarship programs. As is the case with the Discover Card Scholarships Program, if you wait until the last minute to find funding for school, you may quickly realize that you have missed the boat.

    [ad]

Looking at the scholarship by Discover Card in 9th grade, for example, it would be easy to set your goals early, understanding that over the course of the next two years you will want to build your grade point average up above a 2.75 while also getting involved in community oriented projects. Because so little information is available on the Discover Scholarship Program homepage, you would also need to take some time to do some digging in order to get a better handle on who has won and why.

Getting access to scholarships is not simply as easy as happening upon them randomly and then hoping that you meet the criteria. While it’s always possible that you may have randomly fallen into what they are looking for, your best bet is always to plan carefully.

In 2011, the company which brings us the Discover Card is providing a scholarship for high school juniors towards their college education, the maximum award being $25,000. Apart from the specifics on a minimum required GPA, it can be difficult to understand what exactly they mean by clubs or community groups. Taking a look at previous winners of the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship will help you build up on the particulars.

Consider the case of Natasha Mathurin, a 2010 winner of the Discover Scholarship. In her biography as provided by the Discover program, it becomes quickly clear that Natasha was not simply a member of a school group or that she did the bare minimum required of her person. Ms. Mathurin was involved in leadership roles, brought in new members, was active in volunteering in public activities and, despite a learning disability she was diagnosed with earlier in life, has struggled hard to achieve everything she has accomplished.

Moving from Natasha and considering Juan Acosta, another 2010 Discover College Scholarship winner, we see yet another example of a student involved in leadership roles while overcoming obstacles in his life. As a legal immigrant to the country at a young age, Mr. Acosta had to learn English while also overcoming a cataract on his left eye. Despite these troubles, he learned English and eventually was accepted into his school’s gifted program, along the way taking up leadership roles in school clubs and volunteering at a local rehab center.

In each of the above cases, commonality becomes a direction, showing young applicants what others are capable of and suggesting to them a positive direction for their own future. The Discover Card Scholarships are available to students who have encountered obstacles in their lives and overcome them, while at the same time rising up to meet new challenges of their own. The earlier a student starts along this path, the better their chances of getting this nationally offered unique scholarship, and for a maximum potential payout of $25,000, it is important to start thinking about their future as soon as they can. The 2011 deadline for the Discover Card Scholarship Program is January 31.

    [ad]

If you are a student planning on applying for this unique scholarship program later in your high school career, keep your eyes on the website and watch the future winners for ideas of what you can do to increase your chances of winning. Step up into leadership positions, and realize that obstacles are rarely insurmountable. Such challenges are normal in life, and in this case may help you achieve funding for your future college education through the Discover Card Scholarships.

    [ad]

The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) manages these awards which were created in 1992. Since that time almost a quarter of a million students have competed in quest of the savings bonds worth $5,000 and $10,000 dollars. More importantly the students are enthusiastic about participating in a program that allows them to be innovative with the opportunity to contribute. Not only do the winning teams receive savings bonds but they also receive great Toshiba products as well.

Toshiba contributes a ton of money around the globe in different countries geared towards encouraging and funding educational programs and scholarships. The whole purpose of the Stephen Phillips Scholarship was to assist those students attending college that were in danger of being overcome with financial woes. Typically this scholarship gives away anywhere from $3000 to $10,000 annually. The great part is this award can be renewed. As long as the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and their financial situation do not sway drastically they can receive the award through four undergraduate years. The money does have to be paid directly to the school and be applied only towards tuition. As long as the student is a high school senior preparing to enter college or a returning university student at a U.S. accredited institution than they are eligible. These awards are only used for undergraduate study.

In addition, only students that are permanent residents of Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut may apply for the Phillips Memorial Scholarship. They can be attending any accredited school in the country but they must be permanent residents of New England. The only downside is that preference will be shown to students from the Salem or North Boston area. However, all others eligible are encouraged to apply and are always considered for a Phillips Scholarship.

The criterion to apply for the Steven Phillips Scholarship is quite common. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien. Must be a permanent resident of New England. You should also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher when you apply. Your course of study should be demanding and you should present skilled writing ability. Character is also important in the decision making process. The applicant should have a positive view and desire to enhance society. Student should be involved in school, work and community activities. The student should be a goal setter that knows what they want and how they intend to get there.

A student that is willing to work part-time to assist with their college expenses will be well perceived. Students must present financial need due to heavy student loans or other special financial situations. They should have a low EFC or expected family contribution listed on their financial aid report.

The deadline date for the Phillips Scholarship is April 1st. This year there were 145 recipients. A total of 390 scholarships were renewed. For those who missed entry this year they are encouraged to apply before April 1st for the next round of awards. These $3000 to $10,000 scholarships can be yours if you are a U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien, are a permanent resident of New England, have financial need and carry a 3.0 GPA or better. If you have great character and undeniable drive and determination you could be the next Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship recipient.

  • Criteria for the Prestigious Rhodes Scholarship

Former Rhodes Scholars who received a Rhodes Scholarship for study abroad are fascinating people who lead productive, exciting, broadly innovative, and diverse lives. After all, they must be academically, morally, physically, and internationally inclined, to ever have been considered for a Rhodes Scholarship in the first place. Any person worthy of receiving Rhodes Scholarships must be very well rounded and will have a natural desire to lead others, promote international peace and understanding, and unselfishly share their wisdom worldwide in such a way that it benefits everyone they meet.

Rhodes Scholarships were first offered after the death of Cecil J. Rhodes, an extraordinary British pioneer who envisioned world peace and improved international relations brought about by the studies and efforts of diverse groups of outstanding leaders. Rhodes died in 1902, leaving a will that provided funds for people deserving of Rhodes Scholarships, which were first issued in 1904. Rhodes set high standards for students worthy of these scholarships but was adamant that no one be denied eligibility because of race or religion. Although women were not at first eligible, they, too, were included starting in 1976.

Becoming a Rhodes Scholar earns you the distinction of becoming a student of the ancient and notorious Oxford University located in Oxfordshire, Great Britain. Oxford University regularly makes the list of the world’s top 10 universities and is noted for their emphasis on individual instruction, as well as their commitment to personal and academic development. They believe in the philosophy of students educating themselves.

90 Rhodes Scholarships are available annually, with 32 of them being earmarked for United States citizens. The rest of them are distributed among various other countries, such as Canada (11), South Africa (10), Australia (9), India (5), New Zealand (3), and Germany (2). Several other countries are awarded 1 or 2 yearly, as well. Candidates for the scholarships are chosen by 16 District Committees situated throughout the country. In order to apply for a Rhodes scholarship, candidates must have completed at least 2 years of college at a qualifying university before October 1st of the year following the year they make application.

Rhodes Scholarships provide all educational expenses for anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on the degree program being sought. They also include stipends for living expenses, maintenance provisions for other necessary expenses, and paid travel to and from the University of Oxford.

No student is restricted to any particular academic field but they must choose studies that are offered at Oxford and they must have completed their undergraduate studies in that same discipline. Many students seek to obtain Oxford’s notorious Master of Philosophy degree. Oxford offers many bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.

In order to become a Rhodes Scholar, one must be between the ages of 19 and 23, have completed the academic requirements outlined above, and possess multiple qualities of excellence in the fields of academics and sports. In addition, they must be individuals capable of contributing long-term, selfless investments to the causes of public service, world peace, and international relations. Although graduates may not necessarily dedicate their careers to these particular causes, they will be individuals capable of bringing widespread positive changes to whatever area they choose in a tremendous capacity.

Examples of former Rhodes Scholars exemplifying the extraordinary characteristics required for qualification are Bill Clinton (former President of the United States), Bill Bradley (United States Senator), George Stephanopoulos (political commentator), Kris Kristofferson (actor/musician), and Faith Salie (public radio host of “Fair Game”). There are many more examples and most of them have positively impacted the world with their own magnificent talents and dedication to excellence. The prestigious Rhodes scholarships for study abroad can do the same for you.

  • Easy Tips on Scholarships for Private High Schools

    scholarships for private high schools
    Private High School Scholarships
There are many parents who want the best for their kids but don’t always have the financial assets to offer them such a remarkable opportunity. Parents wanting to send their children to a private high school especially, are left with no more than one logical decision, which is trying to get scholarships for private high schools for their children. Public schools are now considered to offer less learning possibilities in some areas, and many of the good teachers have turned to private institutions.

If you are unsure of the procedure you will have to follow or if you don’t even know where to start, maybe the following easy scholarship tips can help you find a few useful guidelines to help you decide on a school and on a financial aid provider.

    1. The first thing is to look around your home-town for teaching institutions that offer lots of available places for the next school period. The best choices are those that have lots of sponsors which can help your children with scholarships for a private high school, without having to worry yourself. There are some schools that have their own means of financing, and they usually use the scholarship students number as an advertising means. For example, there are private schools that offer scholarships for extraordinary students. If a school is lacking at some point African-American students, then they will be more inclined to admit them, and will even advertise scholarships they have for that type of students. Each school is trying to get what it doesn’t have. This can mean girls, or kids with artistic talents or math skills. Since schools have private financing sources (which can be companies owned by parents of some students or other companies that invest into education in the exchange of a few logos placed on sport equipment and because they will benefit from serious tax deductions), they will be able to admit non-paying students and include them in their scholarship programs. The number and aptitudes of selected students will be mentioned in specialty publications, getting the school the right type of advertising they are after.

    2. Once locating one or more schools, you should go personally to the facility and get in touch with a secretary that can direct you to the office you are looking for, the one dealing with scholarships for students. Here, you can pick up the application for a scholarship for private high school.

    3. You will need to gather all needed files you are requested by each school in particular: birth certificates for the children, the files you are handed to complete and any additional files that can prove family income and children’s previous school results.

    4. You need to start the search early in the year, preferably in January, because you will need to bring proof of taxes paid for the last year. The tax return documents are the ones used by the Government and Ministry of Education to evaluate your situation and grant parental financial aid for scholarships.

    5. Once you get these documents, make copies of your financial statements and attach them to school files. Make a different file for each private school you are considering for scholarship and make sure they are sent out in time, usually by late May, so that they will be processed as soon as possible.

    6. Even if the scholarships for private high schools are usually based on the particular financial needs of each family, it doesn’t hurt proving your child’s school performances. Allow teachers from the new schools to talk to the child, make him take part in some tests of that school and make sure he scores high. Also, talk to the teachers in his previous school, and select those that like your child the most. Then ask then to address recommendation letters to each of the private schools you have in mind.

    7. Evaluate your situation. There are schools that offer special scholarships for children who live in the same town, while others offer them to children that are not resident in that particular town. There are high schools offering scholarships for children gifted in math, others for those inclined towards literature. Discovering your child’s special talents will aid you a lot in being granted a scholarship in the most prestigious high schools.

This entire search regarding scholarships for private high schools should be only conducted if you truly feel that your child is missing important aspects of learning in his current school. As we all know, offering him the opportunity of learning in a quality academic environment since early ages will have a beneficial effect on his future adult performances.

The KFC scholarship program criteria aren’t too difficult to meet either. You must demonstrate financial need, be a US citizen or permanent resident, plan to attend college at a public, in-state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/09), and seek a bachelor’s degree. Your cumulative high school GPA must at least be 2.75, which is low when it comes to scholarship eligibility standards, and you must of graduated between 12/1 and 8/31.

How the KFC Scholarship Application Process Works
Since you can’t apply until December 1st of every year, you want to check to see what is posted at the KFC Scholarship program application page starting September 1st through December 1st just to see what it may say. It states that the program is closed between February 15th through August 31st if you go there between those dates. From December 1st to February 15th is where you can submit your application online only. You will be asked to register, to set up your account first. Once that is complete, you will be taken to a KFC scholarship eligibility quiz page to see if you pass that. This little quiz will weed out many people who have no chance to win whatsoever. If you do pass that, then you gain access to the main online application where you can work on the required application essays and other forms of qualification type writting test at your leisure until February 15th at which time you must submit your final application. You just log in and out during those periods and when finally done, hit the final sumit key. This is nice because you don’t have to complete everything at one setting.

This is one exceptional unknown scholarship offered through KFC, simply because of the large scholarship amounts awarded, and the number of scholarships handed out each year. Every high school senior should apply for this KFC scholarship if you seem to be fitting all the above KFC qualifications and also have the entrepreneural drive, which KFC will reward you for. This is by far the best unknown fast food scholarship today. KFC is not chicken when it comes to handing out college scholarships, that’s for sure!

  • Cincinnatus Scholarship and Competition can be Easy Scholarships

    Cincinnatus Scholarship

Of all the various scholarships today, the Cincinnatus Scholarship and Competition held each year at the University of Cincinnati, has to be one of the most extraordinary and atypical college scholarships today. They may even be easy scholarships to capture, because you may qualify already. This is not your quintessential scholarship, but an activating and powerful competition in which invited students attend to display their leadership, academic and community involvement characteristics in an attempt to upgrade their Cincinnatus scholarships to a higher monetary level once you qualify for the entry-level scholarship. All three play a pivotal role in the Cincinnatus scholarship competition; especially community service. This is why the scholarship is called the Cincinnatus Scholarship.

The scholarship name was actualized from a Roman farmer, dictator, and delegate from the legendary period of Roman history. He was revered as a model of Roman integrity. Mainly a farmer first, Cincinnatus was a Roman statesman who gained fame for his selfless devotion to the republic in a time of crisis and for giving up the reins of power when the crisis was over. He made his stint as dictator as brief as possible, and went back to being a farmer once the Roman crisis was over. He was admirable for his lack of ambition of power, as well as his ability to serve his country when called upon to do so.

The Cincinnatus Scholarship is only for incoming freshmen seeking admission to the University of Cincinnati with a completed UC admissions application by December 15th of their senior year of High School, along with their transcripts and test scores. Cincinnatus Scholarships are renewable up to (12) full-time quarters along with completing (30)hours of community service. Minimum 3.2 GPA must be maintained.

    Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition Award Levels

Century scholarship of $8,000 ($2,000 per year)

200 University scholarship of $14,000 ($3,500 per year)

    Ten Cincinnatus scholarships of $80,000
(est. $20,000 per year to cover full tuition, fees, room,
    board with book allowance)

Easy Steps to Apply for the Cincinnatus Scholarship

    1) First fill out the University of Cincinnati admissions application and turn in by December 15th if you are an incoming freshmen with a minimum 3.2 unweighted high school GPA along with high school transcript and test scores. There will be questions on the application specifically to see if you qualify for the Cincinnatus Scholarship.

    2) If you do qualify, you will be notified by mail that you will be receiving the Century Cincinnatus scholarship of $2,000 per year for four years, if you maintain a 3.2 GPA and complete (30) hours of community service per year.

    3) You will then be offered an opportunity to compete in the Cincinnatus scholarship competition to be held on campus on February 7, for more than $18 million in University of Cincinnati four-year scholarships. This gives you an opportunity to earn more scholarship monies by winning the University, Founders, or a shot for the largest of the awards, the Ten Cincinnatus scholarships of $80,000 (est. $20,000 per year).

    4) You will be asked every year to compete as long as you maintain the 3.2 GPA and (30) hrs community service. You’re guaranteed $2,000 every year, and the chance to earn more if you place in the Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition yearly.

The University of Cincinnati does not place restrictions on the number of freshmen eligible to receive the base level Century scholarships. Whoever fills out the University of Cincinnati admissions application and “qualifies”, based on the specific questions which qualifies you for the Cincinnatus Scholarship; will be awarded monies. Then, each and every year you can choose if you want to compete on February 7th, for a chance to upgrade your Cincinnatus Scholarship to a higher monetary level.
