This tells you that you should apply to all unknown scholarships you can apply to even if your close to the qualifying criteria for a particular scholarship.

    The first thing that you need to know is that while each scholarship has its requirements that must be met for eligibility, the majority of scholarships that are available do not require you to be a genius or a saint. If you have average grades, and you’ve lived an average life – meaning that you do not have numerous accomplishments or you haven’t done much civic work – you are still eligible for hundreds of different scholarships.

    In reality, almost all college scholarships have many more applicants than available funds that will be doled out. The few college scholarships that do go unclaimed can’t be claimed because of restrictive selection criteria. For example, the Zolp scholarship is available only for students at Loyola University of Chicago born with the last name of Zolp. The name must appear on their birth certificate, and no, you cannot change your name to qualify for the award.

    If you are looking for unclaimed scholarships that exist because a student won the award, and then didn’t attend school, or dropped out of school, you may save time by realizing that in most cases, the award will immediately be given to someone else who already applied for the scholarship and did not win it – but came close – or the funds will revert back to the scholarship fund, and will not be awarded again until the following application period.

    There is one form of financial aid that does go unclaimed every year, and that’s the Federal Pell Grant. This is a government grant  for need based students given out when students fill out their FAFSA. According to Edvisors, about (3) million students in 2013-14 who did not file the FAFSA, would have qualified for a Federal Pell Grant. That’s just a few years ago! With college often taking more than four years, many of those students who didn’t file are likely still in school. Of them, 1.3 million would have qualified for the maximum Federal Pell Grant allowed. Those qualified students could have received a maximum amount of $5,645 in Pell Grant awards in the 2013-2014 application cycle. You can ask now, how much money will be left on the table in 2018?

    Be very skeptical of websites and other advertisements that offer to get you information on millions of dollars of unclaimed scholarships for a fee. The information that they deliver to you will not be worth the paper that it is printed on, and mostly you will just receive information that you can get anywhere for free, in terms of how to tap various sources for scholarship funds. Purchasing such information is a waste of your time and money.

    Understand that you must work to get scholarships for college, and this includes unclaimed scholarships. No matter what scholarships you might receive, filling out the FAFSA annually should be at the top of your priority list. Nobody is just going to hand you money for college because it was lying around unused. The best way to get the funds that you need, is to apply for every scholarship that you are eligible for (time permitting), and realize going into it that this takes a great deal of time and effort on your part.     Are you a high school senior student in need of a Posse? If so, you need to know about The Posse Foundation & the Posse scholarship for high school senior program. While the term ‘posse’ has numerous different meanings, in terms of education, it is an organization that allows for college access for many people who would not be able to attend college otherwise.

    The Posse organization exists in numerous urban cities in the United States, which include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C, Los Angeles and Miami. Unlike the qualities that typical colleges judge potential students by, the Posse Scholarship Foundation judges students in disadvantaged communities using a different set of qualities. Due to their backgrounds, these students need help getting to college and getting through college. This is what the Posse Foundation provides.

    The Posse Foundation & the Posse Scholarships program use the Dynamic Assessment Process, or DAP, to identify and select students for their program. Students are judged using non-traditional criteria, which allows the recruiters to see the students true leadership abilities, how well they work with a team, and how motivated they really are to succeed. The DAP is a three-step process, and students will be interviewed individually and in groups.

    The Posse Foundation & the Posse Scholarships program works with partner universities and ten students are selected each year for each university that participates in the Posse program. The ten students at each school form a Posse. They will be given a great deal of support by the foundation – but they also work as a team to support each other. Each student who is selected is awarded with a full four-year Posse scholarship.

    You do not apply for the Posse Foundation & the Posse Scholarships. Instead, you must be nominated, and not just anybody can nominate you. You must be nominated by a high school or organization that is a part of the Posse nomination network. If you want to be nominated, contact your minister, youth organization leader, or a high school counselor, and ask them if they would consider nominating you.

    Of course, a Posse nomination isn’t enough. You must be a senior, and you must be nominated during the first term of your senior year. You must show that you have academic potential by having decent grades, and you must show that you have leadership qualities in your school or the community. Your gender, your financial need and your cultural background have no bearing on whether you are eligible or not. This program is a high school scholarship for college.

    The Posse Foundation has been working since 1989 to find and educate potential leaders in disadvantaged cities. The Posse concept seems to be working very well, since the foundation and partner schools report a 90% success rate – meaning that 90% of the students that are selected for the program successfully complete their degree programs, and move into successful careers.

    If you know somebody who should be nominated for the Posse Foundation & the Posse Scholarship, and you work at a high school or a community organization, you can become a part of the Posse Nominating Network by contacting the organization. In order to be a nominator, or to be nominated, you must reside in one of the seven cities that the Posse Foundation serves.

More than $15 million has been distributed till 2008 to the various candidates through (80) (eighty) annual truly unique scholarships and various Honorable mention awards. The objective of the program is to identify and prepare future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields including engineering, science, urban planning and renewal, health, justice and economics. The future Native American and Alaska Native leaders are also to be identified in Native American Health care and tribal public policy through this native American scholarship.

    The Morris K Udall foundation was established in 1992 by the US Congress to honor the Congressman Morris King Udall. The main purpose of the foundation is to promote the natural resources, identify critical environment issues, develop better workforce to handle environmental issues and provide access to environmental education. The Foundation also develops and rewards Native American and Alaska Native professionals in health care and public policy. The Udall Trust Fund was set-up in 1994 for various initiatives including the Udall Scholarships, Internships, Environment Conflict resolution and Parks in Focus.

    The Udall scholarship is awarded based in three categories:

    1. To students who have demonstrated a commitment to a career related to environment. (non native Americans)
    2. To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated a commitment to a career related to tribal public policy.
    3. To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated a commitment to a career related to Native Health care.

    The Morris K Udall Scholarship expects to award a whopping eighty (80) scholars in 2010 with up to $5,000 for various educational expenses. Additionally, fifty (50) Honorable mentions of $350 each would be awarded to sophomore and junior level college students. With such a large number of Udall Scholarships presented each year, everyone who fits the criteria should immediately apply.

    The Udall scholarship is open for all US permanent residents that are pursuing full-time study during the 2010-2011 academic years and have a college grade-point average of at least a “B” or equivalent. The nomination of the students is done by the college or university – through the Faculty representative. Each institute can nominate six (6) candidates for the Udall scholarship. Thenomination materials are available on the Foundation’s website from September 2009 and the deadline for submission of nomination is March 2, 2010. The nomination can be done for all the three or any one of the above categories. Institutional nomination is done using the online registration process and the various nomination materials needs to be provided through mail at the Foundation office in Tucson.

    “We are remembered for the way we treated other people” – these lines clearly state the objective of the foundation – and work towards the benefit and growth of others. The statement of the Udall scholar of 2008 – “this Udall Scholarship says to me that someone outside my tribe, outside my nation is saying that we see what you are doing, and we see that it is important; therefore, we want to help you the best way we know how.”  These lines clearly highlight how objectives are achieved and would be for years to come.

    This native American scholarship is more than just payment of a student’s tuition; it’s a reinvestment in the preservation of the native American environment and national heritage by becoming a future native American leader.     If improving the environment is the end goal, and you are planning to pursue an education that will allow you to do this, you will definitely want to consider applying for the Izaak Walton scholarship or the IWLA National Scholarship Program for environmental, sponsored by the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA). The IWLA serves to protect soil, water, forests, and other natural resources in the United States, and with their Walton scholarship program, they hope to aid in the education of those who hold the same concerns and values as their members do.

    If you are currently enrolled – or intend to enroll – in a program of study that includes forestry, wildlife, environmental sciences, natural resource management, parks and recreation, ecology, biology, zoology, or any other related fields; you may be eligible for the IWLA National Scholarship Program. Two Walton scholarships are available each year – one in each of two different categories. Each Walton scholarship program amount is $2500, and each winner receives an engraved plaque. Each winner also receives one year of membership in the IWLA.

    The first category that the Walton scholarship is awarded in is the Chapter/Division category. In this category, you should have already won the IWLA scholarship in the past. You must be an undergraduate in an approved field of study, be a junior or senior, and have at least one semester remaining before you receive your degree.

    The second category is for a person who is the child or an IWLA member, or a current IWLA member. The membership must have been active for at least one year prior to the application. The winner will be an undergraduate, a junior or senior, and have at least one semester left before graduation. If you have already won an IWLA National Scholarship Program award in the past, you must apply for the first category, as you will not be eligible for the second category.

    If you are awarded a Walton scholarship from the IWLA, the fund must be used for tuition and fees, books, room and board, and other education related expenses. The payment of the funds can be made directly to you, or to your school. If you do win a Izaak Walton scholarship under this program, before you change your course of study, you must notify the IWLA first.

    The deadline for applying for the Walton scholarship program is April 1st of each year.     The Ron Brown Scholarships are designed to identify high school seniors of African-American ancestry who possess the drive and desire to make a positive contribution to society. Applicants for this program should possess exceptional leadership potential, excel academically and participate in community service activities. This program is only available to high school students and incoming college students. Current college students are not eligible to apply for this black scholarship program.

    A minimum of ten students are designated annually as Ron Brown Scholars. Each scholar will receive $10,000 each year for four years, amounting to a total of $40,000. Recipients of the Ron Brown Scholarship Program may elect to use these renewable black scholarships to attend a four-year university or college of their choice, provided it is located in the United States. Funds from this scholarship may be used to cover the cost of tuition, room and board, fees, books, health insurance, computers and other college-related expenses. Unlike many scholarships, the Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any specific career objective or field. Scholars may choose to pursue any discipline. Since the beginning of this program, more than 250 students have been named as Ron Brown Scholars.

    The program first began more than ten years ago when the chairman of the CAP Charitable Foundation, Anthony M. Pilaro, established it. Today, it remains the only black scholarship program of its type. Staff members of the program become mentors to scholars. Due to the generous nature of this scholarship program, competition is typically intense. Over the course of the last decade, since the program’s inception, the number of applications received has exceeded 10,000 per year. Numerous rounds of screenings are held to determine finalists, who are invited to come to Washington, D.C. for a series of interviews with the final selection committee. This trip is all-expenses paid and is sponsored by the CAP Charitable Foundation.

    One element that sets the Ron Brown Scholar program apart from other types of minority scholarship programs is the program’s dedication to leadership as well as the level of interconnectedness the program works to foster between all of the scholars. Scholars of this program are offered number of opportunities that may include internships and alumni mentorship with institutions that have included Merrill Lynch and the National Institutes of Health.

    The program also offers a number of other unique opportunities to assist in the goal of instilling a sense of belonging and pride among scholars. One such opportunity is the triennial leadership conference, which is hosted by the CAP Charitable Foundation for all scholars. Settings for the conference in past years have included Charlottesville, Virginia, the Berkshires and Aspen, Colorado. Each conference has a different focus, which over the last ten years has included global change, leadership and career direction and the arts, entertainment and the media.

    The first Ron Brown Scholar Alumni Association was formed in 2001 by the first group of scholars to graduate from college. Today, RBSAA and the Ron Brown Scholar Program remain integrally related.

    Initial screening for Ron Brown Scholar Program awards begins in February of each year. There are two application deadlines for this African-American scholarship program which prospective candidates should be aware of. November 1st is the first date that applications will be considered. January 9th is the final postmarked date which applications for the Ron Brown Scholarships will be considered.

    The ACS Scholarships Grants for minorities offers the ACS program for students that study chemical science and who are native American Indian, Hispanic or African-American. For 16 years, the ACS program has offered renewable scholarships to minority students who have plans to enter chemistry or chemistry related fields. These awards are worth $5,000 each (based on available funding and individual need) and are presented to students who are either graduating from high school or who are in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college. Students must be pursuing a degree in chemical technology or chemical science in order to qualify for the awards.

    Originally established in 1994, the ACS Scholars Program works to attract underrepresented minority students in the field of chemical science. The program was established by the National Science Foundation and continues to work toward building awareness of the rewards and value associated with career chemistry fields, such as engineering or chemical science field, such as chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, etc. At the same time, the program assists students in acquiring necessary credentials and skills for success.

    Over the years, the ACS Program has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring, as well as the 1997 American Society of Association Executives Award of Excellence.

    These awards are made possible by the generous donations of numerous individual donors, organizations and corporations who have contributed more than $3.5 million to the ACS Scholars program. As the ACS program continues to grow and develop, an increasing number of corporate partners now offer summer research opportunities to eligible students.

    As a way of helping scholar recipients achieve success, the ACS Scholars Program also mentors to students.     ACS also offers the ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarship. This minority scholarship grant is awarded to undergrad chemistry major who attend one of 72 institutions that partner with ACS. Applicants must demonstrate a desire to teach high school chemistry. Award recipients receive $6,000 per academic year. The awards are available for up to six years. In order to continue receiving the award, recipients must continue to meet award criteria. Awards may be used to pay for tuition as well as room and board, books and other educational related expenses. The awards are administered to recipients through the individual partner institutions.

    Along with the ACS Scholars Program, ACS also offers the ACS-Hach Second Career Teacher Scholarship. This ACS scholarship grant is awarded to professionals who are already in the chemistry field and who have plans to pursue a master’s degree in education or who would like to become certified to teach chemistry/science. The awards are for $6,000 for full-time study or $3,000 for part-time study. The awards are renewable annually. These awards may be used to assist students in covering the cost of tuition as well as books, room and board and other educational related costs.

Coca-Cola distributes these scholarships and stipends through two different programs. The first is the ‘Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation’ and the second is the ‘Coca-Cola/All State Community College Academic Team.’ Let’s take a look at these two programs and what they can do for you. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation

    Applications for this program must be submitted by midnight on October 31st. This program provides cola scholarships based on achievement. There are (250) coca cola scholarships available. These Coke scholarships are available to High School seniors as long as they can meet the requirements of eligibility. After all the applications are in, 2,200 will be chosen as Semifinalists. This is where the fun begins. Once you have been selected as a Semifinalist, you will be asked to fill out a second application. You will also have to write an essay and be requested to submit your official transcripts. Finally, you will be asked for (2) letters of recommendation.

    Those second applications will have to be turned in by the middle of January. By the middle of February the selection committee will choose 250 Finalists and they will continue on to the interview part of the program. Everyone of these 250 Finalists will be ask to travel to Atlanta where personal interviews will be conducted. From these interviews 50 students will be selected as Coke National Scholars and will be awarded a $20,000 coca cola scholarship towards college. The remaining 200 students do not come up empty-handed. They will receive a $10,000 Coke scholarship towards college and be selected as Regional Scholars.

    Criteria for Scholar Coke scholarships are you must be a high school seniors enrolled in a high school in the United States or in one of the Department of Defense schools. This scholarship is not just offered to United States Citizens. You can also be U.S. Nationals and Humanitarian Parolees. It is also available to U.S. Permanent Residents and Temporary Residents. Asylees and Refugees along with Cuban-Haitian Entrants are also eligible. As you can see the door is wide open for many to apply. These seniors must also be planning to attend a U.S. accredited University or college aimed at earning a degree. A 3.00 GPA must be have been carried through their junior year. No children or grandchildren of any Coca-Cola company’s are eligible.

    The Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team Program

    This program awards $450,000 annually in stipends for academic scholars. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is the sponsor. At least one student from every state will be designated a New Century Scholar and be awarded a $2,000 stipend. The second group of (50) or more students will be designated Gold Scholars and be awarded a $1,500 cola scholarship stipend. The third group will be Silver Scholars and get $1,250. The final group will be called the Bronze Scholars and take home a $1,000 stipend. In addition to that, another (150) students nationwide will be chosen as National Finalists and are awarded a $1,000 stipend. Students do not fill out applications. They are nominated from their school. This is only available to students enrolled in a community college. Nominees must carry a 3.50 GPA or better.     YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund

    The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund, frequently referred to simply as the FSF, is a national non-profit association that is composed of members of the fashion community who are dedicated to promoting fashion education in the fields of art as well as business. This goal is accomplished by providing fashion scholarships to outstanding students as well as career programs and mentorship. The fund offers 80 awards each worth $5,000. There are also an additional four $25,000 YMA scholarship awards that are given out to applicants that are selected as Geoffrey Beene Scholars.

    To be eligible for the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund, students must be a sophomore, junior or senior student who is in good standing at a school that is a member of the FSF. Students will be chosen by the educator contact at their FSF member school and will need to complete a case study. Students will also be interviewed by an FSF organizational member. Along with the FSF scholarship award, selected students will also receive a trip to New York. Students should begin applying for this scholarship in September.

    Fashion Scholarships by National Make it With Wool Competition

    Students studying fashion and planning to apply for the YMA scholarship may also wish to apply for the following fashion related scholarships. The National Make it With Wool Competition is available to students who are enrolled in a college-level apparel or fashion design program. Applicants are required to submit an original garment that is made of a minimum of 60% wool. The fashion scholarship includes a $1,000 scholarship along with a trip to Reno, NV to attend the national event. The application deadline is the first of November.

    Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Scholarship Competition

    The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition is available to high school seniors who hope to have a career in fashion marketing and merchandising, fashion design or fashion retail management. Applicants must submit an originally designed fashion marketing, retail management, fashion merchandising plan or product or an original evening wear garment. Local winners will receive a $3,000 tuition scholarship to an Art Institute. National winners will receive full tuition scholarships as well as a VIP trip to New York. National 2nd place winners receive $5,000 scholarships. National 3rd place winners receive $4,000 scholarships. Grand prize winners within each category will also receive a chance to participate in the meet and greet event at the offices of Seventeen Magazine as well as have lunch with a Seventeen Style professional. The award also includes a $500 shopping spree. The application deadline is January 20th.

    Pre-College Fashion Scholarships

    The Pre-College Scholarship program is available to potential undergraduate art and design students. Applicants should submit a two page essay along with documented financial need. The award covers a pre-college summer course at Parsons School of Design in New York. The course covers drawing and design, animation design, integrated design, photography or design and management. The application deadline is in March.

    FIDM National Scholarship Competition for Fashion

    The FIDM National Scholarship Competition is available to high school senior or high school graduates who have no prior training. Applicants must submit a creative project within one of the five categories of fashion design, graphic design, fashion merchandising, interior design, digital media artistry or visual design. The award covers a full 1 year scholarship at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. The next competition will begin in January with an application deadline of April 30th.

    Stella Blum Student Research Grant for Fashion

    The Stella Blum Student Research Grant is available to undergraduate or graduate students who are also a member of the Costume Society of America. Applicants must submit an original research project proposal that is composed of 1,000 words or less. The grant is worth $2,000. There is also a $500 travel component awarded to the winning recipient for them to present their completed research at the National Symposium. Stella Blum was a costume educator, curator, scholar, writer and founding member of the CSA. The grant was established following her death in 1985. The application deadline is May 1st.

A brief search on the Internet will deliver numerous scholarship opportunities for LGBT students looking to better their educational journey. Let’s take a look at some of the LGBT scholarships available today.

    League Foundation at AT&T LGBT Scholarship– This scholarship is available to LGBT students who have accumulated a 3.0 grade point average. It is imperative that these students have demonstrated strong community service skills and have been accepted to an accredited U.S. College or University. The awards range from $1,500 to $2,500.

    The Point Foundation – LGBT Scholarship– This is an outstanding scholarship for LGBT students. Not only does the foundation award as much as $13,600 per student; but in addition they provide outstanding mentoring and leadership skills in support of the journey. The foundation expects high standards from their scholars.

    Live Out Loud Scholarship– This special foundation offers no less than three gay scholarships to LGBT students in the New York Tri State area. These awards are for $2,500 each. These scholarships are geared towards High School seniors who are preparing for graduation and looking to start a successful educational journey.

    LGBT Journalism Scholarship– The Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award is sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association and available for those LGBT students seeking an exciting career in journalism. The annual award is normally $5,000.

    Quality Scholarship Collaborative Awards– These scholarships are open to LGBT students who are graduating from High School and live in Northern-Central California. They typically award over a dozen $5,000 scholarships annually.

    If you have a talent for writing, and you are also lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, you can get help paying for your education through the Queer Foundation; through the Queer Foundation Scholarship Fund. This is one of the few opportunities available to the LGBT community, in terms of scholarship funds, that is almost completely based on writing skills.

    If you are LGBT or are a close friend, parent, or family member of someone who is you may be able to get a gay college scholarship to help pay for your tuition from PFLAG. While several scholarship funds make up the scholarship program, typically, you will only be awarded one of the scholarships from the fund, but the lowest amount that you may win, if you are selected, is $1000, and numerous awards are made each year from the PFLAG Scholarship Program.

    Humanity in Action is an educational organization that operates on a global basis. The main focus of the organization is to smooth out differences in races, cultures, sexual preferences, and more. The organization is composed of students throughout the world.     Phi Delta Kappa Sorority College Scholarships

    This is a sorority for teachers who are also minorities. They have a foundation called The Perpetucal Scholarship Foundation. They sponsor 5 graduating high school seniors annually that are going to major in education. The society scholarships are for $10,000 each.

    Beta Phi Mu Frank Sessa Scholarship for Sorority Members

    This is a graduate level association scholarship for education. Applicants must be a member of the sorority and apply by March 15th annually. The award amount is $750.

    Alpha Delta Pi Sororities Scholarships

    There are 60 scholarships that this sorority offers annually. The amounts will vary, with the top awards being for $3,000. Sorority scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must be a member of the sorority in good standing with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
    They also offer an emergency grant of up to $2,500 for members that may have been afflicted by unforeseen circumstances and expenses. This is called the Abigail Davis Emergency Grant. The funds can only be used for books and tuition, not for room or board.

    Gamma Phi Beta Undergraduate Sorority Scholarships

    This sorority offers several scholarships for undergraduates. Applicants must be members of the sorority for at least six months and in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must demonstrate that they have financial need and that they have done what they can to secure other funds. Applicants also have to be enrolled full-time.

    Lambda Pi Alpha Sisterhood Club Scholarships

    This is a sorority for those pursuing a degree in nursing. They offer one sisterhood scholarship annually in the amount of $1,500 to a deserving undergraduate student. Preference will be given to African-American applicants, but all origins are encouraged to apply. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and ready to start the junior or senior year of the program. They also have to submit a written essay along with the application to state why they need the financial assistance. Three letters of recommendation are also necessary to qualify for this scholarship.

    There are also Christian sororities too that are more specific in nature which of course are for Christian students only.

    BUT; TheDream.US provides OTHER college scholarships to highly motivated DREAMERS who want to get a college education but cannot afford it.

    2.5 Million for Scholarships & Grants

    Last year the Zuckerberg’s gave 2.5 million to the same fund. He has been a strong advocate of immigration reform, and has repetitively stated that “it’s the biggest civil rights issue of our time”.

    His group Fed.us has spent millions of dollars lobbying for immigration reform in Washington D.C. for many years. His strong support is based on the fact that America was founded by a nation of immigrants – which he is 100% correct.

    His goal is to help immigrants attain their full potential and climb the ladder of opportunity. He feels that our country will stand to benefit from this help.

    Certainly there are many people who feel that illegals should not be entitled to scholarship grant monies for college in the US, but we feel otherwise.

    The reason is simple too. It’s based on the fact that educated people make educated decisions and act in an intelligent manner. The whole of society stands to benefit by educating illegals. If you hold people down who come from out of country than you have more crime.

    It’s simply because they can’t make a living, so they turn to crime to do it.  The answer becomes to educate immigrants as quickly a possible by giving them the financial means to do it. They in turn will educate their children.

    It’s a very smart way to go about having people coming into the USA – educate them fast and make it easy for them to attend higher education schools!

    Yes; there may be short-term problems from it, like anything else you would try implanting at first, but if there is a better solution for illegals entering this country of the USA, I’m all ears on this issue.

    Scholarships and grants for illegal immigrants entering into the US may be a piece of the puzzle, but not the best answer for immigration reform, and Facebook scholarships & grants are making it happen.

    It’s nice to see people who become wealthy in the US economy give back to the people. Many times you do not see this, and this list is way long too. It’s amazing how many wealthy people do not have a scholarship fund.

    Life becomes so much more complex when you suffer from a disability, but paying for college is easy with disability grants and scholarships. While most people don’t realize that there are thousands of dollars available in the form of scholarships for the disabled, these programs do exist and they help thousands of disabled people pay for college each year. It may be difficult to find these programs at times, but a little research will net you with numerous different leads for disability scholarships and grants.

     

    Generally, college students with disabilities must borrow money from various sources in order to cover all of the costs associated with attending college. This might include disability grants from both the federal government as well as private sources. While the federal government does provide money solely for those with some sort of physical or mental disability, which is estimated to be about forty million Americans, private organizations are where most of the scholarships for people with disabilities  come from. 

     

    How do these Programs Work?

     

    Disability grants do not work the same way that many traditional programs work. The main difference between able-bodied and disability programs is the added challenge of simply attending classes that a disabled person may face. To this end, a person with disabilities can apply and qualify for traditional, tuition covering monies, as well as money that has been earmarked to the schools in order to make them more accessible to the disabled students who attend.

     

    Many people may wonder why this is important, and many other may feel that it is the job of the school to make these accessibility upgrades. The sheer reality of these situations is that there are so many different disabilities and the overall student populations containing these minorities are low. In order to solicit and gain these people as students, schools need to be able to make these improvements on the fly as these students present themselves. Making this money available as a scholarship for disabled students also allows the student to be in on the design and decision-making, creating a niche relationship where the student is able to thrive at that particular institution.

     

    What Kind of Programs are Out There?


     

    There are hundreds, if not thousands, of different scholarships for people with disabilitiesavailable to those who suffer from some form of mental or physical disability today. Usually they are grouped according to what the disability is. For example, the National Federation for the Blind, and the Jewish Guild for the Blind both offer programs for students who suffer from some form of blindness. The same is true for many other disabilities such as deafness, paralysis, or learning disabilities.

     

    Many institutions have grant monies set aside strictly for disabled students as well. One such program is the P Buckley Moss Society disability scholarships. The P Buckley Moss Society has three disability scholarships grants worth up to $1,500 which  are easy to get, if you fall into their disability scholarship grant criteria. Most schools have a special resource center that operates solely to serve disabled students. These resource centers within the schools are usually in charge of the money that the school has set aside for people with disabilities. They also have specialists who can help students find the money that is available to them. The best way to get started on this path is to contact the schools that you are interested in and ask to speak with the disability resource center.

     

    The other disability grant scholarship programs that are available to those who have some sort of disability are found within specialized schools who only take students that are disabled. An example of one of these schools can be seen in the Gallaudet University, which is a college strictly for those with hearing impairments.

     

    You can do it Too!

     

    It will not be a simple task to find college scholarships for students with disabilities for your college education, especially if you suffer from some form of disability. This does not mean that it is something that you will not be able to do. The first step is to contact the schools that you are interested in as they will be able to point you in the right direction. These disability resource centers often have lists of disability grants and scholarships that you may qualify for. No matter what disability you have, the fact is that paying for college is easy, with free money for your schooling, in the form of disability grants and scholarships.

    But who is the The National Cartoonists Society and their Foundation?

    The NCSF is the charitable wing of the National Cartoonists Society who happens to be the most prominent grouping of professional cartoonists in the world.

    Simply put the NCS is the 800 pound gorilla in this industry with no equal!

    The NCSF was founded in 2005 for the purpose of putting lots of emphasis on charitable works and mostly supporting educational activities.

    The National Cartoonists Society has over 500 of the world’s top cartoonists working in professions of all types such as magazines, greeting cards, comic books, newspapers, advertising and many others as well.

    Membership in this esteemed club is limited to those who are well-established cartoonists. The NCS is neither a union or a guild.

    The underlying ambition of the NCS is three-fold:

    To advance the ideals and standards of professional cartooning in its many forms; to promote and foster a social, cultural and intellectual interchange among professional cartoonists of all types, and to stimulate and encourage interest in and acceptance of the art of cartooning by aspiring cartoonists, students and the general public.

    The NCSF Scholarships Grants

    The NCSF student award is called the Jay Kennedy Scholarship, which is in memory of the late King Features editor who drowned unexpectedly while vacationing. He was the cartoon editor for Esquire magazine from 1983-1988. He wrote numerous articles on cartooning and also wrote for the magazines of New Age Journal, Heavy Metal, New York, The IGA Journal, & Escape.He also authored the “The Underground Comic’s Guide” – 1982.

    Needless to say he was a cartoon guru whose fascination of comics was almost legendary in itself. He believed that comic’s; or cartooning was one of the best forms of communication in the world. His belief was everyone could understand the art-form of cartoons; as opposed to the fine arts where only the few could fully appreciate what they saw.

    The NCSF scholarships started with an initial donation grant of $100,000 from the Hearst Foundation/King Features Syndicate, and continued to receive other large donations from other outstanding cartoonist along the way.

    To apply to the NCS scholarships & grants students must be attending a 4-year university in the US, Canada or Mexico and be a junior status. Applicants do not have to be art students to apply either.

    Applicants are required to submit 8 samples of their own cartoon art work.

    The samples are judged by a team of top cartoonists. The college students with the best selected artwork will be given scholarships and grants.

    NCSF will decide if there are multiple winners, and also the amounts will vary, all at the discretion of the NCSF panel of esteemed cartoonists. So this means that there may be many awards given out; or just one.

    Deadline for submissions is December 15th.

    Through various groups, Johnson and Johnson scholarships come in various forms and are fairly well available depending on a student’s location in the United States. Johnson and Johnson scholarships are not made directly available to applicants but rather are often made available to specific institutions which then manage the programs on their own. Beyond offering scholarships itself, students who are seeking degrees in nursing should consider using the Johnson and Johnson hosted website, “Campaign for Nursing,” which is designed to help locate Johnson scholarships for those in that field. This resource provides an immense amount of potential resources which students will be able to take advantage of and apply to depending on general eligibility requirements. While these are not all Johnson and Johnson scholarships per se, it is an excellent scholarship finder supported by the company. That being said there are a number of other Johnson Johnson scholarships available to interested applicants, very often in and around the medical fields. Apart from offering two different programs specifically for nurses, another program is available through the American Dental Education Association. As a quick summation, students should understand that Johnson and Johnson scholarships seem to be primarily available to students interested in nursing.

    The Johnson and Johnson scholarship which has received the most press and attention has been the Campaign for Nursing’s Future program which in 2011 gave out over 12 different awards. This medical scholarship is managed by the National League for Nursing (NLN) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Together these groups judge applications and select winners for the available awards. Awards under this Johnson and Johnson scholarship range from $1,000 to $2,500 meaning that with a total available funding chest of $125,000 at the very least 50 different scholarships can be awarded. In order to be eligible for this Johnson scholarship applicants will need to be United States citizens while being enrolled in accredited universities attempting to get any level degree in nursing. While money is available for nursing graduate degrees, money for those students will only be available under certain circumstances. The applications for the program open in May 2011 and close in January 2012. All applications must be submitted no later than January 13, 2012.

    Now Johnson & Johnson scholarships do not only come through as nursing awards for students interested in the field. The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) has worked with Johnson and Johnson scholarships to give out multiple $2,500 awards to students. Eligibility for this program requires that students be enrolled at a recognized dental school in the United States, have a “superior academic record,” and be a member of the ADEA. All applications must be submitted to the ADEA office no later than November 1, 2011.

    There are of course other programs which have previously offered Johnson and Johnson scholarships which may reopen in 2011-2012. The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners received a grant from Johnson and Johnson of up to $50,000 which provided for 13 different $3,500 scholarships. While there is no promise that the program will be made available again in 2011, interested students should consider checking back in during the summer of 2011 to see if the program has been renewed. As winners of these medical scholarships are announced in December of every year students should check in with the website during June or July to check on its status. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing offered five different $18,000 scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic years which were supported through Johnson and Johnson scholarships. The 2010 deadline for this program was May 7, so there is a good chance that it has not been renewed for the 2011-2012 academic year, but interested students should always pay attention just in case it is reactivated.

    Johnson and Johnson scholarships are available for a number of purposes, but they seem to be primarily designed for students interested in nursing or some form of medical practice. Students interested in these fields should absolutely consider the Johnson scholarships as a method to help pay for their education.
