    This is a minority scholarship that is available to students who adhere to or practice the Jewish faith. This Harvard minority scholarship was established in 1981 and falls under the restricted category of scholarships. Any Jewish students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, aspirations for the future, and exceptional academic prowess are eligible for this Harvard  scholarship for minority Jewish students.     WILLIAM JONES FUNDS
    This Harvard University minority scholarship is focused on helping Native American students who wish to attend Harvard. This scholarship is worth full tuition for one year for one Harvard student. This fund honors William Jones and William Stoughton, who was a Harvard graduate and former lieutenant governor of Massachusetts. Stoughton was a very rich man and upon his death in 1701, devoted much of his fortune for endowment at Harvard.     AYALA SCHOLARSHIP FUND
    This minority scholarship from Harvard University is intended to provide full tuition for a few students who are planning on attending Harvard and are of Philippine descent. This scholarship fund was established in 1996 and has been helping deserving students since that time. First preference is given to students of Philippine heritage, while second preference is given to other Asian nationals. Preference is also given to students of any race who choose to study Asian history or languages and major in this subject.

    ARTHUR DANIEL STILLMAN FUND
    This fund was established in 1969 and provides Harvard University scholarships for minority students who have heritage linking back to Southeast Asia. Top preference is given to students who come from the Southeast Asia area, while second preference is given to students who are planning on studying Asian history or language. If incomes are from $60,000 to $80,000 then tuition is reduced dramatically making going to college here comparable to many junior colleges. Harvard scholarships for minorities can’t really get any better than this.

    FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP
    This scholarship is composed entirely of individual endowment funds received by the university from donors and previous alumni. Every donation over $1500 goes towards this scholarship and it is available for all students, but targets minorities heavily. This scholarship was established over 370 years ago and has been helping students pay for tuition ever since.

    HARVARD NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
    This scholarship was established in honor of Harvard’s 300th anniversary. It was originally established during the 1930’s during the Great Depression, and now is aimed mainly at minorities and other students of low-income families. Each year, this scholarship hands out millions of dollars in scholarship funds to students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend Harvard.

    The Ron Brown Scholarships are designed to identify high school seniors of African-American ancestry who possess the drive and desire to make a positive contribution to society. Applicants for this program should possess exceptional leadership potential, excel academically and participate in community service activities. This program is only available to high school students and incoming college students. Current college students are not eligible to apply for this black scholarship program.

    A minimum of ten students are designated annually as Ron Brown Scholars. Each scholar will receive $10,000 each year for four years, amounting to a total of $40,000. Recipients of the Ron Brown Scholarship Program may elect to use these renewable black scholarships to attend a four-year university or college of their choice, provided it is located in the United States. Funds from this scholarship may be used to cover the cost of tuition, room and board, fees, books, health insurance, computers and other college-related expenses. Unlike many scholarships, the Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any specific career objective or field. Scholars may choose to pursue any discipline. Since the beginning of this program, more than 250 students have been named as Ron Brown Scholars.

    The program first began more than ten years ago when the chairman of the CAP Charitable Foundation, Anthony M. Pilaro, established it. Today, it remains the only black scholarship program of its type. Staff members of the program become mentors to scholars. Due to the generous nature of this scholarship program, competition is typically intense. Over the course of the last decade, since the program’s inception, the number of applications received has exceeded 10,000 per year. Numerous rounds of screenings are held to determine finalists, who are invited to come to Washington, D.C. for a series of interviews with the final selection committee. This trip is all-expenses paid and is sponsored by the CAP Charitable Foundation.

    One element that sets the Ron Brown Scholar program apart from other types of minority scholarship programs is the program’s dedication to leadership as well as the level of interconnectedness the program works to foster between all of the scholars. Scholars of this program are offered number of opportunities that may include internships and alumni mentorship with institutions that have included Merrill Lynch and the National Institutes of Health.

    The program also offers a number of other unique opportunities to assist in the goal of instilling a sense of belonging and pride among scholars. One such opportunity is the triennial leadership conference, which is hosted by the CAP Charitable Foundation for all scholars. Settings for the conference in past years have included Charlottesville, Virginia, the Berkshires and Aspen, Colorado. Each conference has a different focus, which over the last ten years has included global change, leadership and career direction and the arts, entertainment and the media.

    The first Ron Brown Scholar Alumni Association was formed in 2001 by the first group of scholars to graduate from college. Today, RBSAA and the Ron Brown Scholar Program remain integrally related.

    Initial screening for Ron Brown Scholar Program awards begins in February of each year. There are two application deadlines for this African-American scholarship program which prospective candidates should be aware of. November 1st is the first date that applications will be considered. January 9th is the final postmarked date which applications for the Ron Brown Scholarships will be considered.

    The ACS Scholarships Grants for minorities offers the ACS program for students that study chemical science and who are native American Indian, Hispanic or African-American. For 16 years, the ACS program has offered renewable scholarships to minority students who have plans to enter chemistry or chemistry related fields. These awards are worth $5,000 each (based on available funding and individual need) and are presented to students who are either graduating from high school or who are in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college. Students must be pursuing a degree in chemical technology or chemical science in order to qualify for the awards.

    Originally established in 1994, the ACS Scholars Program works to attract underrepresented minority students in the field of chemical science. The program was established by the National Science Foundation and continues to work toward building awareness of the rewards and value associated with career chemistry fields, such as engineering or chemical science field, such as chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, etc. At the same time, the program assists students in acquiring necessary credentials and skills for success.

    Over the years, the ACS Program has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring, as well as the 1997 American Society of Association Executives Award of Excellence.

    These awards are made possible by the generous donations of numerous individual donors, organizations and corporations who have contributed more than $3.5 million to the ACS Scholars program. As the ACS program continues to grow and develop, an increasing number of corporate partners now offer summer research opportunities to eligible students.

    As a way of helping scholar recipients achieve success, the ACS Scholars Program also mentors to students. Mentors come from industry, college and university faculty and other volunteers from minority advocacy organizations which include the Society for the Advancement of Chicano’s and Native Americans and the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.

    Along with the renewable scholarships, ACS program also offers awards known as Project SEED scholarships. These minority scholarship awards are available to high school seniors. To be eligible for these awards, students must have worked a minimum of one summer at a science institute listed with the Project SEED program. In addition, applicants must plan to major in an engineering or chemical science field, such as chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, etc. The goal of the ACS scholarship is to assist students in making a successful transition from high school to college. The amount of the awards varies and may consist of up to $5,000. The ACS scholarships are non-renewable.

    ACS also offers the ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarship. This minority scholarship grant is awarded to undergrad chemistry major who attend one of 72 institutions that partner with ACS. Applicants must demonstrate a desire to teach high school chemistry. Award recipients receive $6,000 per academic year. The awards are available for up to six years. In order to continue receiving the award, recipients must continue to meet award criteria. Awards may be used to pay for tuition as well as room and board, books and other educational related expenses. The awards are administered to recipients through the individual partner institutions.

    Along with the ACS Scholars Program, ACS also offers the ACS-Hach Second Career Teacher Scholarship. This ACS scholarship grant is awarded to professionals who are already in the chemistry field and who have plans to pursue a master’s degree in education or who would like to become certified to teach chemistry/science. The awards are for $6,000 for full-time study or $3,000 for part-time study. The awards are renewable annually. These awards may be used to assist students in covering the cost of tuition as well as books, room and board and other educational related costs.

    Applications for ACS Scholars Program are available beginning February 1st. In order to be considered for one of the ACS scholarships for minority students, applications must be received by no later than April 1st.

    The goal of MALDEF scholarships for Latino students is to continue with their dedication to promoting civil rights for the Latino population. If you aren’t familiar with MALDEF, it stands for Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. The foundation started in 1968 and continues to be a very good resource today, especially with their MALDEF scholarship programs for minority students.

    Law School Scholarship Fund

    MALDEF offers Latino scholarships for law school. Annually, they offer 5 to 10 scholarships for law. The amount of each award is $5,000. All applicants must be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school program.

    Each applicant is evaluated based on their academic accomplishments and their community involvement. Their background, financial need, and how they have promoted civil rights in the Latino community as well as their determination to do so through their career. All applications are due by January 2nd annually. Winners will be notified of their award at the end of June so that the funds can be allocated for the following fall semester.

    MALDEF DREAM Act Student Activist Scholarship Program

    This is a Latino scholarship for college students that are active in promoting the DREAM immigration rights. This is a new MALDEF scholarship program that was just started for the 2012 – 2013 year. Winners can get a scholarship of $5,000 to use at an accredited college. The Latino scholarship for minority students is available for undergraduates and for graduate students. Applications are due by July 2nd of 2012 and winners will be notified by fall term. There can be up to 10 winners of this scholarship fund.

    Applicants must show financial need and also submit an essay about what they are doing to promote the DREAM Act. They also have to explain how their future career plans incorporate promoting that particular act. If you aren’t familiar with the DREAM Act, it stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors.

    This program is designed to help illegal aliens to be able to legally obtain citizenship in the United States based on their moral character and the fact that they have done well in high school and wish to pursue further education in an accredited college program. They can also opt to complete two years in the United States military prior to enrolling in college.

    While the act was implemented in 2001, it has been faced with red tape since then. In 2012, the Obama Administration stated that they would stop deporting youth that fit the definition of the DREAM Act. This Jackie Robinson scholarship is awarded annual to high school graduates with plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

    Since the JRF scholarship program first began, it has continued to attract the support of numerous private individuals as well as philanthropic organizations and companies. As a result, the program has been able to assist a larger number of students by providing them with the help and guidance they need in attending college.

    The program is named in honor of Jackie Robinson, the first black baseball player to break the color barrier that had segregated Major League Baseball for more than half a century. Robinson was born to a family of sharecroppers in Georgia in 1919. One of five children, Robins was primarily raised by a single mother. From an early age, Robinson demonstrated significant athletic ability and became the first athlete at UCLA to win varsity letters in four different sports; basketball, baseball, track and football. By 1941, Robinson had been named to the All-American football team. Unfortunately, he had to leave college due to financial problems and later decided to enlist in the army. Within a two-year time period, Robinson made his way up to the rank of second lieutenant.

    After leaving the Army with an honorable discharge, Robinson played for a brief stint in the Negro Baseball League and traveled throughout the Midwest. He was approached by the president of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 about joining the team. At the time there were no African-Americans in the Major Leagues. By the end of Robinson’s rookie season with the Dodgers he had accumulated the title of National League Rookie of the Year, with an astounding 29 steals, 12 homers and a .297 average. He was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Year in 1949 and later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Today, Robinson is still remembered for breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

    The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship offers a financial grant for up to four years amounting to $7,500 annually for students to attend a 4-year university or college of their choice. This JRF scholarship for minority students is meant to compliment financial aid assistance the student may also receive. In addition, program scholars are also provided with assistance in attending a four-day mentoring and leadership conference held each year in New York City.

    While financial assistance is a strong component of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship program, it also provides for mentoring as well. Mentors are composed of JRF Alumni, community leaders, corporate sponsors and advisory committee members. Each JRF scholar is assigned a mentor who will assist them in enriching their developmental. Mentors may assist with a host of needs including career planning, academic guidance and internship placement.

    Corporate partners have also agreed to provide program scholars with permanent employment, internship placement and opportunities for valuable career development. Upon graduation, scholars may also benefit from the ability to obtain full-time positions through the ongoing assistance and career counseling provided by JRF mentors and corporate sponsors.

    The Jackie Robinson Scholarship program also sponsors and promotes the Rachel Robinson International Fellowship. This fellowship was established in order to promote and support international opportunities for scholars of the program. Fellows for this program will be chosen on the basis of academic excellence, commitment to community, leadership potential and national development. This fellowship can be used for a variety of initiatives, including philanthropic efforts, volunteers initiatives, financial support for study abroad programs, etc.

    In addition, the JRF scholarship program has also launched the Extra Innings Fellowship Program. This program was specifically created to assist JRF scholars who are highly motivated in overcoming challenges to obtaining their career goals. For many such scholars this is the cost of graduate training or advanced professional training. The program promotes these goals by offering fellows up to $10,000 annually. Providing funds to those individuals so that they can pursue this type of education without the high cost of tuition and other related expenses standing in the way.

    The internship part of many of these NSBE scholarships for black students is designed to provide these students with an inside look at how such businesses operate. It can offer them a chance to work in the field and to continue to motivate them in their educational goals. It can also help them to determine which sector of any of these fields that they would like to focus on for their future career.     The HP scholarship for minorities program offers educational opportunities to a wide number of deserving students each year. To be eligible for this minority scholarship, students must be an underrepresented minority, such as American Indian, Latino or African-American, with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science or electrical engineering. The student must also have plans to attend a university that is in partnership with the HP Scholar scholarship program. These schools include the University of Washington, UCLA, Morgan State, San Jose State and North Carolina A&T. Eligible students include high school seniors as well as community college transfer students who will be attending one of the eligible partnership universities.

    The HP Scholarship has many Awards and a Paid Internship

    The Hewlett-Packard scholarship is intended to assist minority students who have an interest in the engineering field. This is a four-year corporate scholarship. Three students will receive paid internships. The total value of the actual HP scholarship awards is $12,000 or $3,000 per year for the total four years and will assist students in defraying educational costs. Students chosen as HP Scholars will also receive a Productivity Package that will include an HP laptop as well as printer and a PDA. Selected students will also become eligible for paid internships at one of the HP locations in the United States to be completed during the students’ undergraduate coursework. As a four-year minority scholarship, the HP scholarship can be renewed for a total of four years. The total number of HP scholarships that will be awarded is 30. Interested applicants should make certain they send in their application by March 15th to be considered for the scholarship. Students must send in an application as well as a school transcript, resume and personal references.

    Students who are selected to receive an internship award from HP will also receive a predetermined location package after they have accepted their internship offer to assist them with the costs of relocating for their internship. A variety of housing options are also available to HP scholarship intern winners, including intern shared housing and HP employee family housing.

    HP Scholarships for Innovation in Healthcare

    The HP Innovation in Healthcare Scholarship is another HP scholarship you may wish to consider if you studying technology in healthcare. This Hewlett-Packard scholarship resulted from a $5,000 donation from Hewlett-Packard. The scholarship covers tuition as well as transportation costs for as many as ten future healthcare IT professionals to attend the Healthcare CIO Boot Camp, hosted by CHIME; the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. CHIME is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

    There are five HP scholarships available for the spring session of the event and five HP scholarships available for the fall session. Priority is given to students who demonstrate a financial need. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a current CHIME member at the time you apply or at the time you will be attending the Boot Camp if you are selected as a winner for this HP scholarship. You must also be on a career path with the intentions of becoming a successful CIO within the healthcare field. Applicants will need to submit an essay of not longer than 1,000 words along with a letter of recommendation and a resume.

    HP Technology Scholarship

    The HENAAC Scholarship Program are designed to help achieve the vision for keeping leaders in the USA strong in the fields of technology, science, math, and engineering. Part of that vision is to make sure such leaders are there in committees currently considered to be under served.

    Studies show that many Hispanics aren’t able to secure the support or funding that they need to complete their college education. This STEM scholarship program is specifically designed to offer them the support and help with the cost so that they can pursue an area of study that can significantly assist them with their future goals. A high number of Hispanic students that enter these areas of study are also graduating, which is a sign that such a program does work.

    The mission of these HENAAC scholarship funds is to offer an opportunity for those that wish to earn their education in such a field of study. Inspiring and motivating students that are struggling to find funding to pay for college is part of the process. Being able to share information with parents, students, educators, and communities about the funds available is very important.

    HENAAC Scholars Program has been around for about 10 years, and in that period of time mover than 100 STEM students have been able to get educational minority scholarships and grants for college. For 2011 there is over $200,000 that will be offered in scholarship funds. The amounts of the HENAAC scholarships vary – from $500 to $8,500 per recipient. The number of these Hispanic scholarships that are annually awarded depend on the dollar amounts given.

    Applications for Great Minds Scholarship Program are taken from January 1st through May 1st each year. Some of the applicants are in undergraduate programs while others are in a graduate program. All applicants must be in an accredited education program. Applicants must be Hispanic to be eligible for the HENAAC scholarships.

    Applicants must also be pursuing an education in the areas of applied science, engineering, math, or computer science. Along with the application, students must send their transcripts, at least two letters of recommendation, a resume, and an essay. Only one application is required to be considered for at least 26 different HENAAC scholarships that are offered through various sponsors of the Great Minds in STEM Scholarship.

    Applicants must show they have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. They also have to show community involvement and examples of student leadership. The other specifics vary based on the specific scholarship criteria by the sponsors of those funds.

    Individuals that have submitted a completed application will get a confirmation by May 31st. In July the scholarship selection committee will determine the recipients and the dollar amounts to award them. Any recipients of such scholarships will be notified by August 12th. A complete list of all winners will be posted on their website by August 12th as well.

    In October the Great Minds in STEM Scholarship will be presented at the Annual HENAAC Conference. The location and dates vary by year, but for 2011 it will be at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.     Due to the variations of what the Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers, there are different deadlines and different requirements for them. The dollar amount that can be awarded will also depend on the specific scholarship that a person applies for. It is a good idea to check this site out often so that deadlines and requirements aren’t overlooked that could prevent you from getting money you need for college.

    The League of United Latin American Citizens National Scholarship Fund (LULAC) has been in place since 1929. One of their main goals is to be able to raise funds and provide scholarships for Hispanics. The amount of money that they award annually and the number of minority scholarships depends on how much money they have to offer.

    Applications are taken from January 1st through April 15th. Those that will receive the scholarships are notified in June. The typical allotment ranges from $1,000 to $2,500. Students must demonstrate a financial need, potential for college success, and community contributions.

    The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation offers Hispanic scholarships that have shown excellence in high school academically. They also look for community activities and leadership roles. The applicants need to be enrolling in a college program in the areas of education, public health, science, engineering, and more.

    This minority scholarship is just one of many that the Gate’s Foundation offers annually. They select 25 individuals and the awards are $2,000 each. Those funds can be renewed for up to four years as long as the individual remains in good standing with their college. Applications are taken from October 1st through January 10th. Awards are for the school semester beginning the following fall.

    If writing is something you enjoy, there are college scholarships for Hispanics in this category too. One of them is the Coca Cola Live Positive Hispanic Scholarship Essay Contest. Applications are available from April 6th through May 3rd. Those that have been selected will be notified in June, with the funds to be used for college that fall.

    All applications must be either employed by Coca Cola or a descendent of such an employee. They award 25 Hispanic scholarships annually for $1,500 each. The theme of the essay changes from year to year.

    The HSF/Sendero al Futuro Scholarship Program is one that Hispanic individuals should be checking into. Applications are taken from February 1st through March 31st. These minority scholarships are for community college programs that are accredited.

    Many scholarships for Hispanics also depend on their status or enrollment in various organizations. There is a minority scholarship offered for members of children of members of HACEMOS. Applications are taken from October 22 through March 3. Winners are notified in June.

    This is a scholarship for Hispanics that allows for the educational goals of many students to be realized. The number of awards varies from year to year depending on how much money they have and the number of applicants. The awards can range from $1,500 to $2,500.

Students who are ethnic minorities or interested in technical degrees will find a Xerox technical minority scholarship which will suit their needs nicely.

    One of the biggest Xerox scholarships available comes in the form of their minority program. This Xerox minority scholarship provides from $1,000 up to $10,000 to a varying number of students every year who are interested in getting a bachelor’s degree in a technical field. During the 2010-2011 academic year, over 60 different students received one of these minority scholarships from Xerox. All applicants interested in the program will need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average, be an ethnic minority, and working towards an undergraduate degree in a specifically acceptable field. Fields of choice are in the hard sciences such as chemistry or physics and other fields such as computer engineering. The deadline for submitted an application to this program no later than September 30.

    The Xerox College Experiential learning Program (XCEL) is another great scholarship program offered directly by the Xerox Company focusing on technical fields or business learning. Students getting this particular Xerox scholarship will be responsible for working at the company through internships or work study positions. This corporate scholarship pays students based on hours worked or through a credit exchange program with the host college. In order to be eligible for this particular Xerox scholarship students will need to have a 3.0 grade point average, pass a drug test, and be able to legally work in the United States. This program operates on a rolling basis, and students will be able to apply to it throughout the year depending on what type of work they are interested in doing. While not a scholarship program exactly, it does work much like FAFSA work study programs in which students get access to funds by working at an academic institution. In this case students not only receive money which they can use for school or other educational needs, but they also gain valuable experiences and insights by participating in the program.

    Apart from those two programs, there are not many other nationally available Xerox programs. What generally is the case is that Xerox may from time to time offer grants to educational institutions which may then be used to establish scholarship programs. The company also has a number of programs it operates internally which are not scholarships but will give students access to valuable experiences in the work place. The Xerox Student Careers website is a great place for students interested in engineering or business fields to take a look at. It gives not only details on the company’s minority scholarship but also introduces students to their future careers.

    Students interested in Xerox scholarships can always attempt to find one at their local university, though with the limited amount of such programs that exist they will be unlikely to find one. In 2010 grants were given to North Carolina, Howard University, Spelman College and Morgan State University to give access to education to minority students. Additional grant money was given to California Polytech, City College of New York and the University of Central Florida through a different program targeting specifically Hispanic students. While Xerox is interested in hiring good workers, their giving tends to be heavily biased towards creating opportunities for minority students interested in technical degrees.

Since 2001 over 6,350 students have received Sallie Mae scholarships averaging out to around 635 awards a year. Because of the national nature of these programs competition is going to be relatively high, so students who are interested in applying should prepare applications which best represent their volunteerism and dedication to their local communities. Though this is not a guaranteed way of getting a Sallie Mae scholarship, matching an applicant’s history with the initiatives and interests of the organization will certainly help quite a bit along the way. Also important to understand in this process is that, while nearly all of the Sallie Mae scholarships are currently closed, they open back up frequently and interested students should really pay close attention to make sure they do not miss upcoming deadlines.

    There are five main Sallie Mae scholarships for minorities offered by the fund almost every year, one of which is the American Dream Scholarship Program. In collaboration with the United Negro College Fund this Sallie Mae Scholarship is open to black students who can display strong financial need. All applicants must be a United States resident and maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average. Students must also be attending school full-time at an accredited university. Award amounts vary between $500 and $5,000. Though this program is currently closed, students should watch both the UNCF and the Sallie Mae scholarship website for when it may reopen.

    Another one of the main Sallie Mae scholarships for minority students is the First in My Family Scholarship Program. This program provides funding to financially needy students who are the first in their family to be attending college. Eligibility requires that students be Hispanic Americans who are legal US citizens. All applicants must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. This program provides between $500 and $5,000 to those who receive an award. This program is currently closed but may reopen in 2011 or 2012, so stay tuned.

    The Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship for minorities is open only to those families who make less than $30,000 a year. As it stands the Unmet Need Scholarship is not meant to represent a sole source of financial aid and as such only provides $1,000 to $3,000. In order to be eligible for the program students will need to be US residents attending full-time at an accredited university. The grade point average of the applicant must be no lower than 2.5 and award amounts will be determined on relative financial need. This Sallie Mae is currently closed with no 2011 deadline, but as it is still on the Sallie Mae website it should be pretty clear that the program has hopes of being reopened.

    Community College Transfer Scholarship for minorities exists to offer students making the transition from a two-year institution to a four-year one. Often the cost difference between community colleges and four-year universities can be extreme, and this Sallie Mae scholarship should be able to help defray some of those costs. This program exists in collaboration with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund under the General College scholarships section. It awards between $1,000 and $5,000 to winners of the scholarship. In order to be eligible students must be transferring from a community college, be of Hispanic heritage, have at least a 3.0 grade point average and intend to enroll full-time at a four-year university. Though the deadline for this program has passed for 2011, students are encouraged to look in September of 2011 to see if it will be offered again.

The scholarship is in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars and can be used to pay for college tuition and supplies.

    ARAB AMERICAN HERITAGE COUNCIL
    This Arab scholarship is based simply upon being an Arab or coming from Arabic heritage. To apply for this Arabic scholarship, you must be graduating from High School, have a parent or guardian that is a member of the AAHC for one year, and be of Arab or Arab American heritage. The amount rewarded for this minority scholarship varies for everybody but is usually in the range of two to five thousand dollars.

    ARAB STUDENT AID INTERNATIONAL
    Like the Arab American Heritage Council scholarship, this one is based purely off of having Arab heritage or being of Arab descent. These minority scholarships for Arab students are interest free and don’t have to repaid. They are available for the 2011/2012 school year and go towards paying tuition, student housing, food and supplies. Each Arabic scholarship ranges from one to five thousand dollars depending upon achievements and grade point average in high school.

    ARAB STAR SCHOLARSHIPS
    The Arab Star is a Dallas based Arab newspaper with estimated readership of fifty thousand weekly. This scholarship is available to Arab students who are planning on majoring in Journalism or a similar field.     AMERICAN ARABIC EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
    This special scholarship is available only to prospective Arab students who live in the following California counties: Imperial, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego or Ventura. The student must be graduating from high school and be planning on attending a university or vocational school in the following semester. In addition, the student must demonstrate leadership ability, have a good citizenship record, have high aspirations for the future, have above average academic success, have satisfactory recommendations and demonstrate financial need. This Arabic scholarship for minority students ranges from two to five thousand dollars depending on the financial need demonstrated.

    EACA INTERNSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
    EACA stands for Egyptian American Cultural Association. This organization is proud to announce they are offering a Arabic scholarship to prospective students for the second year in a row. UNCF scholarships for minorities are plentiful, but two basic minority scholarships are listed here: UNCF General Scholarship 2010/2011 Academic Year, and the Oracle/UNCF Corporate Scholars Program 2010.

    The United Negro College Fund is the nation’s largest supporter of minorities for education. For over six decades, the UNCF grant scholarships for minority students  up to a thousand institutions, as well as professional training for faculty and administration. The UNCF scholarship directly supports 39 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, as well as other schools who support minorities. The HBCUs focus primarily on African-American students, with an understanding and care for their growth, well-being, and future after college.

    Two UNCF scholarships for Your Consideration

    The UNCF General Scholarship 2010/2011 Academic Year offers a minority scholarship value of $5,000.00 USD to those given a grant. This grant is offered to a college student with a Grade Point Average of 2.5, and whose college is a member of a UNCF Institute. College freshmen, juniors, sophomores, seniors, and graduates can apply. The most common of the UNCF scholarships for minorities, several hundred applications come in months before the scholars are announced.

    All majors are open, but the application deadline is on Sunday, May 15 of the next academic school year (2011). Those who qualify and are interested can apply online for this particular UNCF scholarship. If there are other scholarships that a single college student believes he/she is eligible for, then he/she must separately apply for that scholarship grant through the ‘Apply Online’ process.

    A UNCF general scholarship application must be passed, which will then nominate passers for scholarship assistance. Once the application is completed, you will be matched according to the many specific programs for the 2010-11 academic school years at UNCF.

    The Oracle/UNCF Corporate Scholars Program 2010 offers scholarships for College juniors, sophomores, and seniors with a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0, with a grant value of $10,000.00 USD.

    This particular scholarship applies to those majoring in Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Software Development.

    All students studying in UNCF Institutes, as well as HBCUs, are eligible, and can apply online before Tuesday, February 15 of the next academic school year (2011). They are eligible to participate in their paid summer internship at an Oracle location in Reston, Virginia or Redwood Shores, California for eight weeks. Once a student successfully passes the internship, they will be eligible to receive the $10,000.00 USD scholarship grant.

    Tips for Getting Approved for Your UNCF Scholarships for Minorities

    Depending on the various minority scholarships granted by the UNCF, there are still common requirements to be fulfilled. You must be a college student in a university with an official membership in the UNCF or a HBCU, and have financial needs that neither you nor immediate family cannot fulfill. Contact your university’s financial aid to get a full assessment of your needs.     The U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce is another place that you can go for college scholarships for Asians. They receive about 2000 applications every year. They give out about 20 Asian college scholarships every year. These range from $4000 to $5500. The criteria for this scholarship for Asian students is that you must be 16 or older when applying, you must be of Asian Pacific Islander heritage, a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, beginning a college or university as a freshmen. Your GPA should be of at least 3.3, you should be involved in your community and show leadership qualities and have a financial need. The deadline for this year has already passed so you can start working on your application for next year.

    There are also a few other Asian scholarships like the Bruce Lee Scholarship, the Drs. The criteria will be different from one minority scholarship program to the next, but if you work hard, and you look hard, you can essentially find and win enough minority college scholarships to fund your entire college education.

    Make sure that you step outside of your minority status or statuses for scholarship opportunities as well, taking advantage of scholarships that are offered for academic achievement, special skills or talents, for abused children, if that applies to you, for those who were raised and educated in certain geographical locations, and more.     If you are a Hispanic student getting ready to enroll or already enrolled in college consider the LULAC National Scholarship Fund to help pay some of your tuition. The LNSF was established in 1962 based on a local LULAC councils outreach program aimed at funding the hopes for higher education of disadvantaged and yet gifted minority students. The branch was in San Francisco and the results so astounding that the National branch of LULAC wrote a grant proposal aimed at securing funds to operate this program on a national level.

    The grant application was successful and as soon as LULAC was notified the entity LNESC was founded to administer the awards. LNESC is a separate legal entity from LULAC and answers to its own board of directors.

    The organization LULAC stands for League of Untied Latin American Citizens and was started over 80 years ago as groups of Mexican and Latin American suffering from discrimitory practices banded together to achieve some equality. LULAC has been a strong voice for Hispanics seeking educational and employment equality as well as encouraging equal civil participation by Latin American citizens. LULAC successfully brought suit against Orange County to integrate the Hispanic population into the school system in 1945. LULAC brought suit against the state of Texas on behalf of Mexican Americans protesting the fact that none had ever been called to jury duty within the state.

    In their quest for a more equitable life for Hispanics in America LULAC became aware of the need for financial support for economically disadvantaged students hoping to attend college or university within the US. The small start made in San Francisco grew into a national movement which is still based in local Councils.

    LULAC awards range from $250.00 to 2, 500.00 per year and a total of $750,000 awarded annually. These are based on scholastic achievement as well as the desire and sincerity of the individual student to achieve a degree. The greatest amounts are awarded to students who qualify with exceptional scholastic achievements. General awards however depend as much upon economic need and desire for an education as they do upon scholastic performance.

    The LULAC Scholarship fund only awards minority Hispanic students who are legal US Citizens and who are currently enrolled or have applied to enroll in an accredited college or university within the United States. They must be working toward a degree; it can be an Associate, Bachelor or Post Secondary education degree.

    Funds are disbursed from the LULAC National Scholarship Fund to the individual councils and are given to the recipients by July 15th if the award amount is under $500.00. When the LULAC scholarship award amount is greater than $500.00 the funds are disbursed in two equal payments on July 15th and January 15th and then given to the recipients. Allowable expenses are food, books, tuition, tutoring, room and board and other college related expenses. The deadline for the LULAC scholarship application was March 31st 2010. LULAC scholarship awards are made yearly and will be available for the 2011 year.

    General Electric has also partnered with the LULAC National Educational Service Centers to provide scholarship monies for exceptional minority students so as to help in completing their college education. Business and engineering must be studied by minority students who are granted these GE/LULAC Scholarships. Sophomores’ right through seniors in college can apply and there will be two $5,000 GE LULAC scholarships awarded yearly.

    The Benjamin Gilman Scholarship Program, (an international study abroad scholarship) which is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, rewards those applicants majoring in only a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) program. The main objective of the program is to financially assist US undergraduate students planning to study abroad. The Gilman scholarships are provided to those applicants who are planning to apply or have been accepted into a study abroad program recognized by the student’s accredited institution of higher education in the US. The Gilman international scholarship cycle for summer 2010 is a pilot for the STEM fields. It presents a scholarship opportunity program second to none for college students.

    The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs – ECA (http://exchanges.state.gov) works towards enabling mutual understanding between the people of the US and the people of the other countries. This mission is accomplished through nternational education exchange programs with more than 160 countries. ECA has over 1 million program alumni around the world, including more than 40 Nobel Laureates and more than 300 current and former heads of state and government. The total investment done under the international exchange program in 2008 was more than $1.5 billion.

    The Gilman scholarship for summer 2010 has been changed to a Pilot for the STEM fields of study. For the year 2010-11, 125 scholarships are to be awarded to the students studying abroad during the summer of 2010. Each study abroad scholarship will be up to $5,000 and the average Gilman scholarship award would be $3,000. The major criteria for application are as below:

    1. Applicant should be receiving or would have been approved to receive the Federal Pell Grant – grant provided for the low-income applicants for education.
    2. Applicant should be attending a program that is recognized in the US.
    3. Minimum 28 days of study in one country (selected countries as per list).

    The applications are to be done online either in Oct 2009 or in April 2010. However the date needs to be confirmed on the website. The program’s objective is to assist students from a diverse range of colleges and universities including, but not limited to: two and four-year public and private colleges, Tribal Colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and other Minority-Serving Institutions from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. It provides scholarship opportunities to those sections and communities of the society that would have not visited any foreign country due to financial constraints. The program encourages diversity and hence one of the selection guideline is the diverse background of the applicant as well.

    International education exchange programs allow students from various countries to interact and share information and knowledge with each other. As citizen diplomats, they gain not only knowledge and insight into other countries and cultures but also life-changing personal and professional enrichment. Equally important, by sharing U.S. culture and values with foreign counterparts and audiences they lay a foundation of inter-cultural trust and friendship to last a lifetime. Such scholarship opportunities especially for people from disadvantaged background ensure that the objectives of the exchange program are achieved in the best possible manner and hence this Benjamin Gilman Scholarship Program for international study abroad college students.
