Scholarships Grants from Many Colleges is Done this Way

All colleges offer scholarships grants for all incoming students and they may just fit into them automatically; and students won’t have to apply to them either.

scholarships grants
Scholarships Grants from Many Colleges

All colleges offer scholarships grants for all incoming students and they may just fit into them automatically; and students won’t have to apply to them either. Other grants and scholarships you do have to apply to them.

For instance, Saint Mary’ University of Minnesota offers incoming Freshman and Transfer Community & Technical College Scholarships and if students fit into the criteria. The scholarships are awarded at the point of admission, or acceptance. A minimum of 30 credit hours are required for the transfer students. No filling out separate applications for it either.

This is why it is so important for students to apply to the college/colleges they are interested in because they may not know if you fit into them unless you apply to the college itself first. Just because students apply to a college or university doesn’t mean they are obligated to attend them. They can decline acceptance anytime.

Northern Illinois University awarded 4600 of their students a total of 10 million in scholarships grants for the 2015-2016 academic school year.

They also expect to award the same in the 2016-2017 school year too!

NIU goes on to state on their scholarship webpage that you will never know if you can win scholarships & grants unless you apply to them. These are key words students should sit up in their chairs and interpret as: “we have lots of money to give to students this year so apply to see what you can get, because getting scholarships from NIU are easier this year”.

NIU is a good college and does a good job at helping students with student financial aid with scholarships grants, and here’s one more example of it.

Another example of how colleges attract students to their schools with monies they have received from outside source donations or fund-raising from former alumni and whatnot, is from the University of British Columbia and their scholarships & grants. 15 Million was raised from their donors and they gave it right back to incoming students and others too, based on a criteria that covers a broad array of students.

If colleges are trying to increase enrollment because of recent significant declines, this makes it much easier for students to win awards at those schools because the scholarship bar is brought down to allow more students in. All colleges do this in one form or another. This can be done easily with scholarships for athletics, music and dance just to name a few categories; but all categories are effected.

The University of Minnesota has a variety of grants & scholarships that covers incoming, transfer and continuing students at their school. They even have awards called ‘CLA Internship Scholarships’ for those undergraduate students working in an unpaid internship off campus.

As you can see they are making sure all categories of students are getting some sort of financial aid to help them attend the University of Minnesota to insure continued enrollment at their school.

Southern Illinois University offers incoming, freshman, transfer and current student scholarships grants likewise. This covers all student types. They even provide a link for outside scholarships students can apply to which is very helpful too. One is The Princeton Review that offers tips and tricks on being successful at getting scholarships. It’s up to date information so it’s very practical.
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosk offers students a long list of available scholarships outside their college as a courtesy to their students on their scholarship webpage along with indicating that they do have direct scholarships grants given out too.

The list offered by UOWO is extensive too and is worth the look by students looking.

Kent State University has over 700 scholarships grants given to their students every year. Some of these are department specific, while others are offered directly by the financial aids department when evaluating students every year for their student aid. To receive department based awards the individual departs must be contacted and applied to direct.

Students can apply to one application which evaluates them for up to 50 scholarships & grants. Kent state also has many grants which they participate in such as 5 federal grant programs & 3 state programs.

DePaul University has a scholarship webpage that is very good too. It covers many student categories and even has adult, graduate and alumni scholarships available to be applied to.

DePaul hands out 26 million in scholarships and grants every year so its worth a look.

Columbia College in Chicago offers a solid scholarships grants webpage for their students. There are many student awards to apply to which will cover many student categories and criteria.

High Level Scholarships Grants Information

When it comes to scholarships grants the saying applies to students – the early bird gets the worm.

Yes, those students who start to apply earlier may run across more student financial awards then those who wait.

It’s really a time thing.

Counselors & the experts agree that the earlier you start sniffing around for grants & scholarships the better chance you have to stumble across money for college. Many students wait until their senior year to start looking.

WRONG!!!

Start earlier; like in your Junior year!

This can result in HUGE scholarships & grants payout to you.

In the beginning of searching for scholarships and grants, students start to get a feel of what they should be doing and over some time start to get it. They will learn to weed out; or ignore some grant scholarship offerings simply because they will know from past application experiences that they will not fit in the guidelines to have a chance at winning the awards. They then will move on and save valuable time to apply to those opportunities they are best suited for.

Valuable Time Saved!

Let me give you some examples of things to watch out for when applying.

Watch Out for the Pitfalls of Scholarships Grants

There are tons of scholarship awards that are state specific. In other words students can only apply to them IF they live in that state!

You may also have guidelines/restrictions for applying to be: Students must be residing in a particular County, City or high school before a student can be able to apply.

Many scholarships grants are only for those students who have ONE semester under their belt in college before they can apply! This means you must have attended college already before applying. If you’re a senior in high school you will not be able to apply; but many high school seniors fall prey to this restriction!

It works in reverse too!

Many Grants, scholarships REQUIRE students to be a SENIOR in high school to apply. This is a big one. Many scholarships & grants have that requirement, so beware!

You also have to watch out for applying to scholarships that require to be majoring in a SPECIFIC field of study ie…engineering, math, biology etc. in order for students to apply! So if students apply to the award they must be majoring in it.

This is widespread on scholarship offerings!

If you are majoring in the award they are offering by all means apply to them!

Another sneaky one is that students who apply must show financial need for many educational student aid awards. I say sneaky because many of these indicate that “preference will be shown to those applicants who can demonstrate financial need”. My suggestion is IF you know that you have financial need – then apply. But if you don’t move on to some thing else. The key word here is PREFERENCE. What this means is IF they cannot find an applicant who has financial need, then yours will be considered. By any means just move on to some other awards to apply to because there isn’t a shortage of student aid awards and you most likely will be wasting your time applying for it.

Also; watch out for when many of the above restrictions are bundled together which will make applying for them even more restrictive. For example you may have an award state that students who apply must reside in a particular state, show financial need, be majoring in a particular field of study, live in a certain city within that state and have already attended college one semester (or be a senior in high school).

WOW!

This is really restrictive and it rules out a heck of lot of students who CAN apply to them, but, this is what students will see over and over, and they will spend many hours reading over these types of restrictive student scholarships or grants.

This is why it’s best to apply to the easier scholarships & grants firstly.

What do I mean by easier scholarships?

Easier scholarships are just plain easier to get all the way around. They are easy to apply to first off. Most you go apply online to do it and submit your application. Secondly they are easier because you can apply to them quickly and there are no drawn out things to accumulate – just standard stuff you can send in later ie. small essay; just ONE letter of recommendation and not three. Just a few things and you’re done applying.

Also the biggest reason why an easy scholarship is easy?

Its easier to win because it may usually have many awards given out to many students each and every year.

These are the awards to apply to FIRSTLY!

Any statistical major will tell you that your odds increase dramatically by having multiple awards then only one.

I would not apply to any scholarship; unless I match up to their guidelines unbelievably well IF there was only one award to be given.

Let me give you an example.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships gives out over 300 scholarships every year in just the state of Pennsylvania. They also dole out tons more in all the other states throughout the US because this is a federally funded educational award which each state handles in their own way based on their restrictions of how many they are allotted yearly – which is a lot!

It is plain to see that students who apply in just the state of Pennsylvania have greater chance of receiving an award because so many are given out; as opposed to other awards who only select ONE winner.

Another example of high yearly total number of scholarships grants passed out is from Intel. They give out over 300 every year. The statistics say students have a better chance to win one then just one award offered and you may have the same number of students apply to both!

Still another place who is generous with their awards is the Elks National Foundation who hands out an impressive 500 of 4-year easy scholarships & grants. This is nothing short of staggering and one clearly sees how applying to them would be exciting because of the high chance odds of winning!

Scholarships Grants Master Advice Conclusion

Students should start their scholarship search early and apply to those with high yearly awards and only apply to the others if your qualifications highly match up to their guidelines; otherwise you may be wasting your valuable time that can be spent on productive student financial aid searching and applying. Student time is valuable and must be spent doing things right the first time around rather than constantly spinning your wheels on dead ends such as awards you have very little chance of getting.

Work smart not hard and avoid the dead ends that only lead to lottery style promising awards which 99.9% of students will never win!

They also make very good starting salaries right out of the gate, so this is always a good thing no matter how you look at it. It is a low stress working environment and it’s very intellectually stimulating. You also will be able to work in a variety of settings too.

*One of the best reasons about being an actuary is they enjoy a harmonious work/life balance, which will be very appreciated when once married with children.

The true definition of an Actuary is “a person who compiles and analyzes statistics and uses them to calculate insurance risks and premiums”. In other words actuaries manage risk for organizations by using analytical skills so they can plan for the future and protect themselves from loss. They also are involved in the community on a multitude of levels, and they are very charitable on their donations to those groups which need it the most. They do this all through their Mutual of Omaha Foundation. In fact, they state that their company was founded on one simple principle: “help people in time of need”.

Scholarships Grants for New Jersey
NJ STARS Scholarships Grants for New Jersey Students

Students who are in New Jersey have a lot to be happy about, especially after taking into consideration the efforts that the New Jersey Council of County Colleges have made to ensure that not a single student misses out on proper education. The council has in place several scholarship and grant programs for students in different categories of their education.

There are scholarship programs for those who attend community colleges, and also have in place scholarship programs for those who are attending regular 4 year school programs. Therefore whichever institution of learning you are attending, you have no excuse not to make it.

There are 19 community colleges in New Jersey, all which prepare the students for a brighter future. The students are readied for transfer into the college and university systems, while others are ready for the job market when they leave the community colleges. Through NJ Stars and NJ Stars II students are able to access several scholarship plans so that they can be able to get subsidized payments on their school fees and tuition.

NJ Stars Scholarships Grants

This program was instituted particularly for students who are residents in New Jersey. The program is offered to the students so that it can cover their tuition costs in any of the 19 community colleges that are found in New Jersey.

The scholarship is awarded on merit basis, and because of this in order to be eligible for this scholarship program, students must first graduate within the top 15% of their high school class. Apart from just being in the top 15th percentile, there are several tests and high school courses that the students must also pass through and accomplish successfully. This mandate was set by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, together with the New Jersey Commissioner of Education.

Students who wish to be considered for this award must have taken at least 12 college credits every other academic semester. For those who believe that they have the time and the competence to take on more, they will be allowed to go for up to 18 credit units every academic semester. However, you should only go for this option of accelerating your education towards a faster graduation if you are sure you will be able to handle the challenge.

Depending on the appropriation determined by the state of New Jersey, the student is also allowed to make use of either of the summer semester sessions as a part of the 5 semesters wherein they can be considered as eligible candidates for the scholarship award.

In the event that a student wishes to be considered for this award, you are free to select less than 12 credits in your final semester especially if you are in a position where you do not necessarily need all the 12 credits to graduate.

You must have at least 540 points in your SAT to be considered for this award. For renewal purposes, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA and above if you are to receive the scholarship into subsequent years.

NJ Stars II Scholarships Grants

These are scholarships and grants that targets those students who are working towards their Bachelor’s degrees. To be considered for this award you must have attained at least a 3.25 GPA in your associate’s degree. If you are successful, you will be eligible for up to $2,500 every academic year. The scholarship program is available for students in any New Jersey public or private 4 year university or college.

The state of New Jersey will as per this scholarship program take charge of 100% of the NJ Stars II award, while the student will be required to take responsibility for whichever balance remaining.

In as far as renewal is concerned the applicant must be sure to maintain at least a 3.25 GPA throughout their academic years. However, it is also important to note that in the event that your family has an average income of more than $250,000 you will not be allowed to apply for this scholarship plan. University of California Scholarships Grants

The University of California offers different scholarships & grants in different capacities, and the fact that there are campuses strewn all over the country.

University of California Scholarships Grants
University of California Scholarships Grants

The University of California offers different scholarships & grants in different capacities, and the fact that there are campuses strewn all over the country makes it necessary for the applicant to go through the set guidelines by each individual campus.

Every campus has its unique set of instructions to which students must adhere while applying for the gift aid. Therefore you should make sure that you go through the links for whichever campus is relevant to you before filling and handing in your application for consideration.

Taking into consideration the fact that more than 100,000 undergraduates receive gift aid in one way or the other, as a UC student you should take this opportunity and also make sure that you get a share of this cake.

It has been documented that in the previous year alone the institution provided close to $1.9 billion in gift aid to more than 100,000 undergraduate students, which loosely translates to around $16,000 for every student. All of this was aimed at helping the students cover their expenses and tuition fees.

One of the main considerations whenever gift aid is being awarded either by the federal government, the state of California and/or the University of California, is the applicant’s basis of need. In line with this criteria, need is often determined by the information that the applicant is going to provide when they are applying for financial aid. This will therefore include things like the expected costs once you get to campus, and most importantly the status of your resources back at home.

In as much as this is important, a host of the gift aid that is offered hardly ever consider merit, though where necessary merit becomes an important factor of consideration, especially for those who are applying for aid through programs that focus on individual talent in things like sports, music and other areas that require individual talent.

The institution provides grants and scholarships under different programs. Some of the most common programs that you will find when applying include the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, the Middle Class Scholarship program, Cal Grant program and the Pell Grant program.

Perhaps one of the best things about all these grant programs is that you do not necessarily need to apply for them individually. All you need to do is to make one application for financial aid and you will be considered for all of them.

Blue and Gold Opportunity Scholarships Grants Plan

In the event that you come from a family whose annual income is below $80,000, your tuition fees will be catered to with the different gift aid programs available. For normal program students this will be for the four years in the institution, while for transfer students this is for two years.

Therefore you do not have to pay for the fees through your own means.

In the event that you have determined that your family does have the financial capacity over and beyond the $80,000 annual family income you can still be able to apply for financial assistance so that you can lower your costs of attending school.

You will first have to fill and hand in your FAFSA, the California Dream Act and the Cal Grant GPA verification form. These are often handed in early March, unless the institution provides special instructions otherwise.

When applying you must be in any of your first four years at the institution in the event that you are a regular student, or the first two years in the event that you are a transfer student.

There are a host of other campus requirements which are specific to different campuses under the program, which also you have to adhere to.

In most cases you must be registered and enrolled in the institution for at least half of the academic year, not be behind in student loans or in default, and you should also meet the regular campus academic standards stipulated in the application guidelines when applying for scholarships & grants at the U of C.

The University of California Scholarships Grants programs are worth looking into simply because they have so much money to dole out towards financial aid for incoming students, along with larger higher profile schools making a push in helping the everyday student to afford attending a major university.

Impact Teen Drivers Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships and Grants from Impact Teen Drivers

Below are truly awesome scholarships & grants from Impact Teen Drivers which have an April deadline. These are some student aid awards our staff felt was VERY worthy of writing about because they are so meaningful in today’s society.

It’s something that can affect any family who has teenagers that are now able to drive. This is when the most driving accidents happen, when newbie teenagers get behind the wheel of a car for the first year of driving a motor vehicle.

It’s no small wonder why auto insurance rates are so outrageously high on this age group; it’s simply because an extraordinary amount of driving accidents occur.

The Impact Teen Drivers scholarships and grants call awareness to this major problem in today’s society simply by sponsoring a contest that could ingeniously lower these types of occurrences from happening for future teenage drivers.

They have also designed their scholarships grants program in such a way that it naturally gets the word out to as many as possible via video about the distractions teenage drivers face.

About Impact Teen Drivers Scholarships & Grants Program

Did you know being a distracted, or reckless teen driver is the number one killer of teenagers in america? We didn’t know this but now we do, and we are glad we know it. Parents with teenagers must talk with their newly driving teenagers and let them know about this fact.

It could save their life’s!

You must be a legal US resident to apply and between 14 -22 years old enrolled as full-time students in an accredited educational institution such as college, trade school, middle or high school.

Impact Teen Drivers are trying to spread the word about this very real danger teenagers face so as to prevent any more fatal accidents from occurring in this age group.

If you love creating video, you will surely love what you must do to submit your original work for this scholarship grant program. You simply have to create video highlighting solutions to the dangers of being distracted while driving from such things as texting, talking on the phone, putting on makeup, eating, or even showing off behind the wheel.

Drinking & driving entries are not allowed to be entered as a distraction, because this is not the focus of this contest. Although driving while intoxicated is highly dangerous to do, the above distractions mentioned earlier are to be displayed to show that they are equally as bad.

Many teenagers don’t seem to realize this, and this is precisely why reckless & distracted driving is the # 1 killer of teenagers today.

The video is to be 2 minutes in length and uploaded onto YouTube. Music is to be included in the video too.

Entries must also be submitted with a 1,200 max word essay.

Both video & essay must “showcase your idea for a SOLUTION to the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving”.

Artwork must also be submitted as a poster or T-shirt with original artwork.

All entries must be original youth led projects making sure that they do not legally infringe on another’s rights, in regards to music, art and other.

Winners of the Impact Teen Drivers Scholarships Grants will be judged base on 25% concept and creativity, 25% execution of your idea, and 50% effectiveness of your message with the main focus centered around SOLUTIONS to this problem.

Submissions can be sent in between February 16th through April 10th & Winners are announced on April 21st.

Impact Teen Drivers Scholarship Grant Student Aid

  • One $1500 American Sign Language Educational Grant will be awarded to one American Sign Language (ASL) entry of any category.
  • One $1500 Spanish Language Winner Educational Grant.
  • Three $1,500 school awards.
  • Four Grand Prize Individual Educational Grants of $1500.
  • Four Top Vote Getter Educational Grants of $500 each.

Once all videos are submitted online, friends and family can vote on the videos by viewing them of course. This is a great way to spread awareness to this deadly driving problem, by having as many people as possible understand how these types of fatalities really occur.

This can save many senseless future deaths from happening because of these everyday distractions teenagers fall prey to on a continual basis; and we applaud the sponsors of this wonderful student aid award!

Arthur M Godfrey Aviation Scholarships Grants

The Arthur M Godfrey Aviation Scholarships Grants are great for those looking for flying scholarships to help pay some of their college tuition.

Aviation Scholarships
Arthur M Godfrey Aviation Scholarships Grants

The Arthur M Godfrey Aviation Scholarships Grants are great for those looking for flying scholarships to help pay some of their college tuition. They are not for everyone of course because such a small percentage of students are actually serious enough about going into this type of profession.

This is one field of study that is unique, and only for those who hungered for this since they were a child.

Not many students applying for this aviation scholarship would have known who Arthur Godfrey was, or his past history. He was a radio and TV broadcaster and eventually an entertainer in the 1930’s who had an infectious smile and personality.

He was extremely likable and promoted general aviation in that time; especially for Eastern airlines. While in the military “during the 1950’s Arthur Godfrey had flown every airplane in the U.S. Armed Forces inventory”.

It seems to fit nicely that he would sponsor a flying scholarship. A Foundation (The Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Foundation, Inc.) was formed upon his death to promote and provide his aviation scholarship.

Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Foundation, Inc. Flying Scholarships Grants Categories

Two categories of scholarships grants were set up with the Godfrey scholarship. The first one is categorized as A&P Mechanic, The Private Pilot or Light Sport certifications group open to ages 16-20 years old at application time. This is a $10,000 scholarship grant!

The second category is the The Advanced Certification level and is open to ages 18-25 years old at application time. All applicants must have a private pilot license which is current. This scholarship is worth $5,000.

Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Scholarship Guidelines

  • All who enter give theirs rights to their submission to the The Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Foundation, Inc.
  • Both categories use the same submission requirements for this competition
  • If under 18 years of age, you must have parents’ written authorization
  • You can only apply to one category
  • September 1st is the deadline date for submissions

What you must do to win the Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Scholarship

This is the easy part; all you have to do is to submit a video of yourself flying upside down for 5 minutes (no I’m just kidding).

  1. All applicants must develop a video with audio (DVD) which must be at least 12 minutes long and not exceeding 15 minutes in length.
  2. The content of the video is to promote general aviation directed towards an audience of individuals ages 16-20 who are not presently into aviation.
  3. The whole idea of the video is to “help a young person realize their aviation dream”.

This sounds simple enough and even fun too. Those who have a knack for video presentation may do very well on this competition. 12-15 minutes of an aviation promoting video could be worth $5,000 to $ 10,000 to use on college. Seems like a nice trade off to me and time well spent too.

Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Scholarship Judging Criteria to be used

The judges for these aviation scholarships will evaluate the submitted videos based on the following:

Creativity, enunciation in narrative delivery, clarity of picture quality, visual stability, the person narrating must be the applicant, visual and audio quality, and age appropriate message.

If no video submitted fits all of the above then no scholarship will be awarded.

How you must use the Arthur Godfrey Aviation Scholarship if Awarded to You

  • If you win this aviation scholarship you must go through training with an FAA certified instructor within the US.
  • Scholarships expire in 36 months if not used
  • Flying scholarship winners must demonstrate a normal rate of progression to receive future funding.

There are other smaller restrictions which apply and you must read them thoroughly in the submission guidelines at the Arthur M. Godfrey Aviation Foundation scholarship website.

This website is very simple and easy to understand with many people who submitted their questions and comments about this program. They answer them clearly and are very interesting to read, giving you a better understanding of what this Foundation and their scholarship is all about.

Foundation scholarships and grants are high on our list on awards students should not hesitate to apply to, for they are not as difficult in winning as other higher profile student aid programs where you may have hundred times the applicants.
